Tourist Beat Down in Baltimore
Graphic video of tourist getting beat unconscious, stripped and then robbed in Baltimore. Question I am asking, if this had been me, and I had been armed, would being armed have made any difference?

Probably not, they had the victim out manned and he couldn't have shot them all. Would have been nice if he could have gotten one or two!

Well if you were armed in Baltimore and not a criminal,
and this happened to you and you used a firearm to protect yourself outside of your home...this is what would happen in order, Hospital, arrest, bail, jail. You have to be one of the chosen few to get a carry permit in Maryland and then most likely it will be only to and from work limited.

This is a wake-up call for everyone about crime in general and especially hate-crimes. This kind of action MUST HAVE SEVERE PENALTIES!! I pray it never happens to me as the result will be very different for many people. Be responsible and don't go into areas at times that are not conducive to a healthy outcome. If you must enter questionable areas, be very alert. I hope the victim sees justice and learns a valuable lesson.

In Maryland, you are obliged to be an unarmed victim. Only a privileged few have unrestricted carry permits, and it is largely illegal to even transport a handgun in your car. That may change with a recent decision by a Federal judge, striking down the "need to carry" requirement.

A couple of observations: - I don't vacation anywhere I'm not allowed to defend myself. My discretionary dollars don't get spent in places I'm not welcome.
- You don't have to shoot everybody. Shoot the first two or three, and the rest will quickly re-evaluate their position.

I live about 30 minutes above Baltimore in Maryland. I used to travel to Balt. quite often but now that I have a young son I won't be visiting much at all. I def won't be walking around at night.
I sometimes play gigs in Baltimore as a musician. I don't feel real good about walking around with expensive instruments on my back. Just seems like the city is ready to pop.
Not sure why the victim was surrounded by the group at the beginning of the video, it seemed like a set up to me. If it was a calculated set up I don't know if being armed would have helped.

Considering how it went down, if he was carrying, it would have just meant another gun in the hands of the bad guys. He was sucker punched and he wouldnt have had time to do anything.

This video does not suprise me at all. He could have avoided that situation completely. I would have never put myself in a situation like that especially in a city like baltimore. Why was he alone surrounded by a group like that? He is not very street smart if you ask me. Self defense is often just avoiding trouble or where trouble may be. In addition, he does not look like he is from that area at all, that is asking for trouble in a bad area. He should have at least been with a group of friends.

Only counts as a hate crime when the victim is ______ (fill in the blank).

From what I have heard the victim had etoh on board and it clouded his situational awareness. The mob mentality rule seems to be increasing as of late and with the current political climate in this country nothing good will come of it.

We aren't allowed to use that one...which in a way, is actually quite racist...it's like saying, they're expected to do that to you so it isn't a hate crime...kind of sad when you think a bout it.

Criminals look for vulnerable victims and ones that won't put up a fight. If you have awareness and alertness often you can avoid being put in that position. Self Defense is now a dimensional concept that involves much more than pulling a weapon and/or kicking, punching, etc. It requires not only teaching about guns but also awareness, avoid conflicts, de-esclating a conflict, speaking tactfully to people and the legal part which helps to differentiate self defense from assault and/or murder.
This video demonstrates why having a CCW and a gun may not be sufficient to protect against becoming a victim. If you were being beaten on the ground the way this guy was you may not be in any condition to pull your gun in time to make a difference. If they jumped and beat you your chances of getting the weapon out in time may be compromised which means you may be made unconscious by a head blow.
Even if you have a gun it is better to call 911 then enter the fight. Many good samaritans have died try to rescue the victim from a gang only to have the gang turn on them. This also demonstrates the why's of having a plan. If you see someone being beaten by a gang you call 911 first or have someone else call if you want to protect someone from being beaten. It is also very difficult to defend against greater than one assailant unless you are armed. They also may be armed. Gangs are know to have guns and knives.

balitmore.....sadly is not a good place. a family memeber of mine had a severe drug issue and migrated there. within 2 hours of being in the city she had been robbed of everything she had, beaten strangled, and raped. these occurances did not all happen at once. the horror stories she tells me of this city are sickening. and some of the police are just as bad as the gang members.
she told me of a officer they call "officer english" because he is from england. when she was raped she approached him bloodied and beaten, begging for help. he threw her violently to the ground, searched her, took her cigarettes and then left her on the steps of a building in broad daylight nearly unconcious. Baltimore is definitely a city that needs a cleanup.

That is good adviced regarding not going to places that are not conducive to a health outcome. I would add to that, going into any state, or city that does not recognize my Texas gun permit.
I know Maryland is not a state that recognizes mine so I won't ever go there. But even in Texas can't avoid being around criminals as there are lots of them and the jails are too full to
hold them all. I would add to that not going to bars, since I carrry, not going to convenience stores at night and into known
drug areas. I was in Baltimore once, and as I recall it was not in my opinion a safe place to be years ago.

This guy had "VICTIM" written all over him and did everything wrong. Wrong as in place, time, and response.

Where is our esteemed President and Attorney General on this obvious hate/race motivated crime? If your in the majority you can't be the victim of a hate crime.

The A.G. and other powers to be prefer "selective enforcement" in the area of hate crimes or other selected areas of the law that warrant their attention. I agree with Steve in Vermont - this guy was probably etoh and had victims' bullseye written all over him.A CC firearm would have not helped, in fact the assailant probably would have used it on him. It's apparent Baltimore is another city to omit from your tour itinery.

ETOH is medical shorthand for alcohol. "Alcohol on board" = drunk.

I was stationed at Ft. Meade. MD my last two years before I retired from the Air Force. Car jackings were an everyday occurrence. They were also assaulting MDs in the Johns Hopkins Medical Center parking garage in downtoen Baltimore and stealing their cars and credit cards. They killed one doc, then checked into an Inner Harbor hotel on his American Express and threw a party before someone noticed things didn't add up. I lived in Columbia, a relatively safe community, but I never felt really safe the entire time I lived there.

And when was this, please? I can assure you (from personal experience) there have never been "car jackings" every day near Fort Meade.
Also, when was this doctor murdered? Cannot recall the incident and nothing via Google.
Thank you.
Be safe.

That guy was lucky. In some parts of Chicago he'd be dead.
I speak from some level of firsthand knowledge on this.Urban America may as well be considered a different country. There is no law and order so much as survival of the fittest.I don't go to foreign nations like New Jersey,Chicago Illinois(anymore),New York City, and places where the government and criminals share a career exploiting the unaware and the meek for their own good.
Police? They work for the gangs and savages. Not because any of them are corrupt, but because the police work for the politicians. And the politicians work for the gang members & families. Why do you think so many reps and Congresspeople from these cesspools are opposed to voter ID?
As far as carrying a gun goes, that's the only thing crooks respect. Its all fun and games beating on the stranger and taking his stuff, until the stranger 'pulls a 'gat'.They could give less than two spits about law ,order,or your wifes honor, but they will respect a 9mm hollowpoint...if its the last thing they ever do.

I remember all to well the riots in LA and the video of a truck driver being pulled from his truck and beaten. Today those same truck drivers, and millions like them (us), are arming themselves. If we have riots in the future there will be a lot of surprised rioters when they find their "victims" armed and willing to shoot.

When did this happen? How many arrests have been made? Another reason why I'll never visit Baltimore, NYC, Boston, Philidelphia, D.C. et.al. which is a real shame with all the history my forefathers bring to my linage. Boneheads, mob mentality, makes you sick.
