Default Shield vs 442/642 for pocket carry.

I'm hoping to hear from folks that own both.I currently carry a 442 daily. Id like to buy a shield, but am afraid that its a but too big for jean pockets.

How do they compare? Does the back of the slide peek out of your jeans? Does it print a gun shape?

Also, I'm a remodel contractor my 442 is covered daily with lint, carpet fuzz, dirt, saw dust, etc. Do you think the shield more likely to jam under those conditions?

I would prefer 9mm over 38, and although I shoot at least once a month and drill at home, I still feel awkward reloading the revolver.

So have any of you had a chance for first hand comparisons?

I saw the Shield a couple days ago, don't think it's appropriate for pocket carry unless you have some BIG pockets and a really stiff belt.

I rented/shot the Shield at my LGS, great product. MY EDC is an M&P 340 or 442 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holtser. Both work w/any kind of slacks or jeans. When I tried the same thing w/the Shield it proved to be too bulky and heavy, printing and pulling my jeans down.

To me the Shield is strictly a OWB or IWB holster gun. If your job gets dirt and dust into or on the EDC on a daily basis I'd stick w/the revolver, albeit slow to reload. Speed strips or speed loaders help, but reloading a SD gun is not much of an issue (MHO only) for most civilian CCW holders.

I have the shield and I think it's a tad large for pocket carry, of course some guys would carry an anvil and think it was ok. For me, it's a belt gun but a light weight go anywhere type with shorts etc. I've owned a couple of J-Frames, a PM9 and those are more suited for the pocket and about my limit.

I can't comment on size comparison, but will have to agree with the previous posters, that pocket carry with the shield is probably not a good idea. Up until last week my EDC was the 9c with a NAA five shot .22mag revolver as a bug. I'm a plumber and often find myself in crawlspaces, and other nasty conditions. These conditions never affected my 9c. Before the last time I cleaned my 9c, I had probably 3k rounds and about four months of daily carry in non-office type work. Never one failure due to the gun or it's condition of build up.

Mechanicly speaking, the shield is the same gun, so I have little doubt it will be any different. Conceilment is one of my priorities because of my job, and dispite the downfall of less rounds, the shield is a much better EDC for my needs than the 9c... but that's also why I carry an extra mag, along with my bug.

Hope this helps at least a bit. No one gun is right for everyone and their daily lives.
