Default I have this old (?) holster

In the 1961 - 1980 Revolver thread, Street Wolf posted about an old revolver he had. In a couple of his photos was a holster with a pressed floral pattern. It rang a bell with me so I dug around and found this holster. It's been kicking around for a while; I do not recall where it came from, nor from whom. The only identifying info is on the back of the flap and it is stamped "MEXICO" in small block letters.

Model 13-1 4" is in for dimensional reference. It is in all the way, but doesn't fit that well. It appears that a 6" barrel would fit, lengthwise. I added the hammer thong just for fun. There are holes that probably had a real hammer thong laced through on the back side of the holster. The holster leather is nearly 1/4" thick and very stiff, the flap part is 1/8".

Anyone have any info on it? Any guesses?

Martya,

What you have is one of the nondescript holsters made in Mexico for a single action Colt type 6 gun. Years ago , when it was not dangerous, we would go into Mexico to purchase things. Leather goods were popular, complete double gun belt rigs with holsters, bullet loops etc. could be purchased for around ten dollars or less. I never bought any because the quality was not that good. They never carried any maker's mark only Mexico...I think they were made for us tourest. The holster you have is made better than most , it may be older, the floral design is nice... you need to get a S. A. Colt to go with it. The reason the holster is stiff is it was made for quick draw...some were made with a thin sheet of metal with leather on each side so it keep its shape and fast draw like so many T.V. western stars ( I never could outdraw Marshal Dillion but I tried each week ) Also notice the leather tie downs at the bottom ... Yes Sir thats a quick draw rig...

Gary

Thanks for the reply, Gary!

This thing pops up every 10 years or so, and it is at least 40 years old, likely more. As I said I have no idea where it came from or when. I guess I'll tuck it back on the shelf in the closet and when it pops up again in 10 years I'll ask again about it.

Nifty looking, but good for nothing...

It is so good for something...all you need is a belt and a colt single action ( or clone ) and you got the ultimate cowboy BBQ rig or fast draw outfit. I had a carved belt from Hunter Holsters that went with a Ruger Blackhawk and a Hunter quick draw holster and in 1973 that was a cool outfit.

Nostalgia is in and Hunter is still in business so get a belt to match that carved holster... don't let it sit on a shelf

Likes cowboy guns too,
Gary

I see a little cracking. You might want to apply a little mink oil or something to keep the leather from drying out more.
