Default Laser Lyte for j-frames question

Anyone have any experience with the new Laser Lyte for j-frames that is held on with the two sideplate screws. I looked at their product on their website and had a question about what effect it has on the finish of the gun. I still like my Crimson Trace grips better, but was considering this for a 642 I just bought. I would appreciate any info.

I bought 2 of them for my J-frames as I got them at a pretty good price. They have some advantages over the Crimson Trace - I especially like the high placement of the laser - but they fail on 3 key points: 1) the laser "on" button is easily activated in your pocket; 2) you can't use the grips and a speedloader - not enough clearance; and 3) their customer service sucks. As to #1, if the laser is accidentally activated, don't worry about it as it will shut itself off automatically...after 30 minutes. This will give you lots of practice in buying and changing batteries. When I found there wasn't enough clearance for a speedloader, I contacted the factory and was told that any modification of the grips would automatically void the warranty. When I asked about anyway that either the on/off switch could be made a little more secure against accidental activation, or if the shut-off time could be changed to something a bit more reasonable - say 3-5 minutes, I discovered their amazing ability to ignore the customer. Crimson Trace's products aren't perfect, but their Customer Service is top drawer. My advice - stay with the CT lasergrips.

Best of luck,

Dave

I too found that battery is too easily drained coming on in your pocket. Useless in daylight. Have the Crimson Trace on an identical revolver with much better luck. CT for me.

The beam also points to the rear.

I've had a Laserlyte laser on my 442 for years. I carry it daily either in my pocket or on my belt and i've never had any problems with it.
I haven't looked under it to see what the side plate looks like.
I like the idea that I don't have to change the grips to get a laser.
