Appendix Carry of M&P Shield
I have found that I am comfortable carry my Shield in 2 places At 4:30 IWB and AWIB. I hear pros and cons about AWIB. With a striker fired weapon is it safe to carry AWIB?
I am heavy and its a comfortable place to carry. More comfortable than the 4:30 position. The holster is 0 deg cant and the trigger is completely covered in the holster. The 4:30 holster is 20 deg cant and also IWB.
FYI, I use the safety when in the holster.

I carry a Walther PPS in a IWB at the appendix position. It too is a striker fired weapon and I've not had a problem (or concern).

I'm probably in the minority, but I will NEVER appendix carry as the gun is pointing right at the femoral artery. It violates rule# 2 (Never point your gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.) A direct hit in the femoral artery will bleed out in about one minute.

Do you think the gun is going to go off all by itself? You have to pull the trigger.
AIWB is not for me for comfort reasons while seated. Also after 20 years of don't point the gun at anything you don't want to shoot, I feel uneasy enough not to want to do it. 3 or 4 oclock is just a tick slower to draw from.

I know you have to pull the trigger OR have something cause it to be pulled. This is why I am asking. Just to be sure there wasnt something I was not aware of. Better to ask and have you guys think Im an idiot than to keep quiet and miss an important point.
Thanks for the reply.

Amen to that brother!
For the record, I don't think you're an idiot,
but I have been known to be wrong before.
Seriously, when in doubt, check it out!!

What do you use for a holster with appendix carry using your shield?

Appendix carry is the newest hot thing it seems. Lots of people talking about it. I can't get over the fact that femoral artery aside, it's pointing a weapon at my junk....one slip up of being too fast on the bang hook and too slow on the draw and your a saprano the rest of you life...

I appendix carry on occasion if I print at 3-4 o'clock. The Kusiak Leather IWB I use completely covers the trigger. I'll use the thumb safety from time to time. Either way, unless there's Divine Intervention, there won't be any negligent discharges.

Its almost as hot as the new "man purse" carry. Or what they call the Murse.
Cool guys all in a world of their own.
Next thing u will see them shopping for "Manpons" to go in their Murse with their Shield.

I find it a little hard to print with a Shield, especially IWB. That thing is pretty small. I'm not comfortable with appendix carry, and generally carry at about 0330 to 0400. I've seen some guys appendix carry 4" barreled guns. It seems like that has to hurt.

Does Appendix Carry (AIWB) work with this gun? I do it with J frame, but wondered if anyone carries this way with M&P9c.

Appendix carry
Appendix carry is the name of the game for me. I`m retired now and have a relaxed dress code. As a right -hander,IWB carry at 3:00-4:00 makes my lower spine and rt. hip hurt. I`m not talking about the fast trip to the gas station but something approximating all day carry. Have never felt any pain from App/carry.The two I carry primarily are a 40c and a Shield. The Shield obviously is a little flatter and gets greater use when the covering garmet is a little tighter. I use a Talon holster for the Shield and a Falco for the compact. I also have Falco holsters for my 229 and 1911 compact.
These are the straight drop/open top models and I would recommend them to anybody considering App/carry. The spring clips are quite strong. By the way, I use a 1911 (45) mag holder to carry my extra mag for the Shield. Even after getting wallowed out by the Shield mag it still retains the 45 mag quite well. Disclaimer(I guess),although I could stand to lose7-8 pounds or so I still have a body that`s more slender than not so that might come into the equation for other body types. YMMV.
Good Luck,John

For APEX carry, do you find the Shield a lot easier to conceal than your M&P9c or about the same? I was leaning toward the 9C since I already have my J-frame I carry. Wouldn't mind an option with a bit higher capacity (not a replacement, just another option). Apex carry works perfect for me with my J-frame and wondered if I can pull it off with 9c.
Any photos of your holster options? I'll have to look them up.

Appendix Carry
Hoser,
The 40c I have conceals very well and not night and day difference from the Shield. If I was you I would get the compact and have mo`bullets .I don`t know how to post photos on here but if you send me your e-mail in a PM I would send you pics. Other than that check out talonholsters. and falcoholsters. Falco does not make a specific model for the Shield and I use their suede opentop for the compact 40. John

I rarely appendix carry either my 40c or Shield. When I do the Shield feels a lot more comfortable than the 40c and they both conceal pretty well. I use a Don Hume leather clip on holster. My wife appendix carries her 9mm Shield and uses my DH holster since I hardly use it.

When I was 275 lbs, I did AIWB because 4:00 was too uncomfortable sitting and driving. I was always reaching back to adjust, and I would occasionally print. I didn't have any concern for safety, the trigger is covered in the holster and I engage the safety.
Down to 210 lbs and AIWB is not for me anymore, but now IWB 4:00 is the best for me with my Shield in a Galco Stow-N-Go.
Now I just need to move my shirt out of the way instead of my belly.
It's great to get ideas from a forum like this and try something different that may work out best for you.

Manpons, Murse, and Shield all in the same sentence. Hahaha! That's funny stuff. Maybe they'll make one with a sweet trigger and a sight combo in pink next year. Swallow your pride and hang on tight to those man cards! It'll be like the lady smith only cheesier.

I appendix carried my Shield all the time. I also appendix carry my 642 and P938. Most confortable way to carry for me and the least printing.
The Shield was great for appendix carry. Much more comfortable than compact models like the Ruger sr40c, G27, and M&P 40c (all models I have previously appendix carried)

Call me crazy, but I won't carry a striker type pistol in any position concealed. I love my M&P duty gun...in my duty holster....but for CCW, I carry a revolver or my P2000. I like the longer trigger pull and visible hammer on my auto and knowing a revolver cylinder has to rotate to fire gives me peace of mind. I know it's a mental thing I should probably get over, but I am happy with my other choices for CCW....some might say, well, you should carry the same type of operating system....to them I say, all my guns fire by just pulling the trigger (no safeties) so for me it's not much of an issue.

I carry or have carried Kahr P9, M&P9C, Glock 32, Glock 33 in appendix carry mode. I use a tuckable IWB holster. I range from 6-10% bodyfat depending on season. I have had no issues. I have carried at the 4 position but I feel like the gun is exposed and that someone could get to it or see it without me knowing. Having it in front makes me feel more comfortable. This is just me and my thinking. Try a few ways and see what works for you. I also carry using the SmartCarry for deep concealment and I use PistolWear when running and biking.

I would love if my department gave me more choices for off duty. It's carry the plastic or a 5 shot Smith. I carry my duty weapon at 330, mostly IWB, but always at the same place, right near wear I wear it on duty. One gun, one spot, one training method.
I just cannot over come the fact that your muzzle is covering your junk.

i agree 100%. i really like appendix carry. i think the glock 27 makes a lot of sense but i will not carry the glock in an appendix rig. i have tried but have never been comfortable. so it usually a m60 or sp101 in the appendix position. i am glad i am not the only totally irrational person here.

I have been a member of the forum for a while, but have never posted, nor am I sure where to go to post. Basically this is a plea for help. I recently bought a shield 9mm. I'm looking for some concealed carry advice. Normally I would go for a IWB and wear it between 3 and 4 o'clock, but I have a torn rotator cuff in the right shoulder and can't draw from that position. Other health issues put me at risk for corrective surgery, so I'm stuck looking for options, other than going to a left hand carry. I can draw from 2 o'clock, but can't find a holster that is comfortable in that position. Anyone have any suggestions.

I used to use the crossbreeds @ 4 o'clock (comp-tac, king tuk) for all day concealed comfort.
AWIB seems to be the preferred mode for most, but uncomfortable for me. I have Big hard belly.
Been carrying 40 years, & wrecked my spine, so now I use the adhesive belt clip on my shield 40 between pants & belt @ 2:30 or so with a 'stiff' 1 3/4 inch belt to protect trigger.
I walk with a cane so I'm not worried about odd movements.
Also, I tried the Galco IWB (all suede) with thumb break... it was the most comfortable AWIB, for me and very inexpensive (optics planet?), prior to my injury. It worked fairly well at 3:30 as well. I've thought about dying it black & wearing it between pants & belt for sitting ability.
For long drives, I use the Galco "Executive" shoulder rig (black, minimal w one attachment) & very adjustable for my G27. Comfortable.
My disability allows me to use a 'clip draw' @ 3:30 on my Colt Defender .45 for general outings. Clips on belt & buttskin gives it 'sticky' retention.
There are some good options for us experienced, slow-movers.
Clips prob not good for the younger, agile CC folk.

This is exactly how I feel about carrying autos, bit could never word it the right way. The Shield is a great gun, but I couldn't get comfortable with a striker-fired pistol IWB. It's mental, for sure, but real all the same.
