Opinions on Remora Holster for Summer J-Frame carry
I struggling in my search for a carry rig to use for my 638 during the summer. Pocket carry has never really worked for me. Lots of folks rave about the Remora, but I've been somewhat apprehensive about clipless/loopless carry rigs.
Is anyone using a Remora for their J-Frame for summer carry? (particularly in khaki style shorts with belt loops)
Thanks,
AC

I like the Remora holsters but prefer something with a clip for IWB.

I've been toting a 642 in a Remora for the last four (4) days and nights. Traveling/visiting in the NYC area and like absolute concealability therein. The Remora and gun is simply invisible when worn properly with one's shirt also properly tucked.
Be safe.

I've heard great things about the remora...but I use a simple lobo horse hide clip...thin and secure...

Summer J Frame Carry
Try the Smith & Wesson "Summer Heat" holster available on their Website; been using that for years and conceals the gun well, although I do get a "rash" when carrying in the abdomen. I recently purchased a BG30 and using a Desantis pocket holster, which is far more comfortable.

That one is a Gazelle #61. Made in England.

Look at the Lobogunleather site for a belt clip holster, many other styles are available though. Good workmanship, Reasonable, pretty timely with delivery. He's a forum member too.

I've been using a Remora with my Mdl 36 for about the last 6 weeks or so. I love it. I've tried several other IWB holsters and hadn't found one that I liked. I have not tried one from either Lobo Leather or Bell Charter Oak, so please don't take this as a negative to those two fine craftsman. I like the infinite positioning of the Remora. I typically carry mine at my 3:30-4:00 with just a slight cant. With most holsters, its either a vertical carry or FBI tilt. I like something just inbetween.
I like mine enough that I'm getting ready to order a new one for the 36 (with attached mag pouch for speedstrip) and two for the Ruger SR9c (for wife and her brother).
Good luck
Doug

I've carried in a Remora and had to return it, took me a while but I finally tried a "Sticky Holster" - like it much better. Can carry right or left hand, even appendix carry.

When I use a Remora, it's for appendix carry of a J frame. What did you not like about the Remora?

I've not used a Remora and am anxious to see how they work for folks.
Until then I'll keep using this one for my Charter Arms Undercover and S&W 642.

I assume the rash is similar to the ones people get when wearing a foam (whiplash) neck brace. A friend of mine had to wear one all summer and she was getting a rash. I suggested that she wrap the collar in a clean bandana every morning. In a few days the rash went away. I think it was caused by bacteria.
You might want to try and cut off the toe end of a pair of old socks and slip it over the holster (but under the clip). Change out the sock each day with a clean one. Maybe that would resolve the rash issue.

I use a Remora to carry my 340 M&P.
Love it!
I was not sure if I could use a clipless/loopless holster, due to concerns with gun retention...
but...
It simply stays put!
I use it for jogging as well as carry IWB at about 3:30
I recommend Remora for light weight guns...but not for heavier stuff..

Remora holsters
I really like this holster. I have ones for various handguns. Some holsters fit various handguns (and they do fit well). At first I was pretty sure that no $24.00 holster could be this good. I actually run and jump with my grandson while wearing a REMORA. We also have good wrestling matches and the darn thing never moves. I wear mine up to 5 hrs a day. I'd suggest you buy one (they are certainly inexpensive). see if you like it. In fact if you buy it and don't like it and I have a pistol that fits your size I'll buy it from you.

Ditto that they are inexpensive and well worth the money just to try it out. I have one and it was definitely worth it. However, in the summer when it is hot I sometimes use a Theis holster in horsehide. If it is really hot, 100+ heat index or really humid the horsehide is less likely to cause heat rash... but if you don't spend several hours outside in the heat of the day then that shouldn't be an issue.

I got the new holster from Alan the other day. I have to say, I'm impressed. I've been a fan of the Remora for a while now, but adding the speedstrip pouch to the holster really works well. The extra material to the front stabilizes the holster just that much better and it puts the speed strip right where I want it.
Alan also recommended using the #8-UC which is listed for the enclosed hammer models for my traditional exposed hammer (Mdl 36). What some people have found is that the tip of the hammer can snag on the seam of the #8. I had this happen once during practice. All I did was readjust my draw and it was not a problem. But with the UC model, the tip of the hammer sits just above the seam. It works wonderfully.
I will definitely order another Remora.

I've got one of Ray's offset IWB jobs in horsehide. A super-nice holster.
