Inside waistband probably is not ideal for myself due to physique, To do that would probably require suspenders.
I was thinking shoulder holster for the interim and a good work out plan

I carry from 2 3/4" barrels up to 4" barreled revolvers with an in the pants holster. I also carry the auto 1911's w/5" barrel in 45acp in an in the pants holster too. From 6" barrels up to 10 1/2" barrels get shoulder holstered.

In the hot summertime we need to wipe the handgun down everyday and switch holsters so they will dryout from our body sweat. Even the stainless finishes can be tarnished from our body sweat. I've had nickel finishes tarnish too. I lightly rub with a soft cloth using simi-chrome polish will remove the tarnish if it happens. Just food for thought we all sweat.

A lot of the consideration will come down to revolver weight. Are you suitable enough in stature to wear a steel N-frame in a shoulder rig without listing to one side, or needing something opposite side to offset the revolver? A NG would be a very viable option if you go the N-frame route. Conversely, a steel L-frame can get a bit heavy too, but dimensions-wise might be more manageable, again depending on your physical stature. I am average height and weight (5'10"/155lbs) and my 624 snub is far too large for shoulder rig carry. OWB is no problem. The best non-J frame revolver I have for shoulder carry is my 242, although some would say it's "only" .38 Special. A 296 in .44 Special would be an option if I had one, but that is just plain nasty to shoot at roughly 19 oz. The best shoulder rig I have owned for carrying a steel revolver is made by Andrews. The holster is offset by three speedloader pouches, creating a very solid balance on both sides of the body. It's top quality construction and excellent value for the money. The best lightweight shoulder rig I found came courtesy of a forum member's recommendation: The Ken Null rig. Mine is cut for a J-frame, but you might contact Mr. Null to see if he can accommodate a NG. It is a minimalist rig at it's finest.

I have a 2 1/2" 686+ that I've carried in a belly band positioned around my chest so that it functions as a shoulder holster. It's actually reasonably comfortable, accessible, and doesn't print with most of the shirts I wear, including slip over types.

Thumbs up

Plenty of info to digest thank you, leaning towards a 2-3" 686 or a night guard L or N frame maybe a 396. It is a shame I missed the 357NG in 41
that would have worked. My 640 is my go to right now, have had it since the early 90s owb at 4 O clock in a DeSantis holster, Guess I may be over thinking all of this.

Most people go from heavier/bulkier to lighter/smaller...I think adding pushing it up another frame size and another 10 ounces or so is going to be a bit overwhelming for daily carry...that's why most of us stick with our j-frames 99 percent of the time...

That is what some of us call our 625-10s. But loaded with 6 rounds of CorBon DPX, it gives me great comfort.

Carried today in a Galco Summer Comfort IWB, it is a comfortable carry. I have several of these holsters, and while not a Sparks etc, I can order one today and have it in just a few days. While I love all of the custom holsters I have, at my age a wait of several months may not be in the cards.

FYI, I am 6', and weigh about 150.

I conceal carry a:

3" 625-3
2.5" 310 Night Guard
3" 66-2
2-1/2" 66ND
442 Pro Moon Clip

I carry all the above in Lobo Pancake holsters at 4 O'Clock.
You will notice carrying the 3" 625 the most due to weight. The gun being heavier I notice it moving around more than my other concealed carry choices, which seem to hug the body closer.
The 310 Night Guard is sweet to carry, and quick to reload. As would be a 325 Night Guard. I carry 2 Moon Clips infront of the Lobo Enhanced Pancake in California Competition Works Moon Clip Carriers.
The 2-1/2" and 3" 66's carry very well also in Lobo Enhanced Pancake holsters.
I know that you are looking at Real Guns for concealed carry. However the 442 Pro Moon Clip in nice in the Summer. I wear Nylon Fishing Shorts quite a bit in the Summer. I can carry the 442 at 4 O'Clock in my Lobo Model 1 Pancake, with either 1 or 2 Moon Clip reloads infront of the holster in California Competition Works J Frame Moon Clip Carriers. This combination gives me Light, Reloadable Fire Power that does not pull my shorts down.
I tend to go to 38/357 revolvers in the Summer. I carry shotshells either in the first couple chambers or in a speed strip in my pocket for snakes depending on where I am going.

I also carry my 4" 64-2, my 4" 610, and my 4" 686 some of the time. Also in Lobo Pancake holsters, or my Bianchi #5. I tend to go to the longer barrels when running around in the rural areas where I am more likely to be shooting what I am carrying. You do notice the heavier weight of the larger heavier revolvers.

If you pick your shirts wisely for concealed carry. Carrying a 4" N Frame is very do-able.

If you carry a N Frame Night Guard you will compare it to a K Frame Snub. My best explination is the light weight makes it feel like a smaller revolver than it is when carrying it. I have never carried a 386 Night Guard, but I am sure it would be a very good choice also. I have S&W compact finger groove grips on my 310NG. I think they conceal better than the Goodyears that come on them. They also look much better.
