So I just got my first revolver and I am quite in love with it and I shoot it extremely well. This got me thinking about getting a smaller revolver for carry. Just wondered if some people carry a revolver or does everyone pretty much carry a semi auto?

When I carry it's an M&P340. Two inch barrel, 13 ounces, and 5 rounds of .357 magnum. I doubt I could hold off a zombie horde with it but in a life or death situation against a couple of assailants there's not much to go wrong with it.

S&W 642 in a Mika pocket holster with a reload in Bianchi speed strips.

I switch between a 696,442 and 66 according to the alignment of the stars.

Only carry a 340 or LCR if I can't carry the Kahr CM9. The Kahr fits in the same pockets while giving me a couple of extra bullets, better sights and a much better trigger.

I carry a Glock 27 on my ankle year round.

I carry a Glock 23 on my hip in the cool weather.

But in the warm weather I switch the Glock 23 for a S & W 640 Pro. The rounded butt of the snub nosed revolver does not print nearly as much as does the squared butt of the G23.

In both cases I rely on a New York reload, depending on the G27 on my ankle for the backup ammo.

The Gocks fire .40 caliber; a potent round.

The S & W carries 125 gr. Federal hollow points, which have the reputation as being the ultimate man-stopper.

I shoot the G23 best; the G27 and the S & W 640 I can shoot about equally well. The G27 carries more rounds and has less recoil.

Semiauto when I can hide it, but a 642 is much easier to hide. Especially during hot summer.

Like asking: "Apple vs. Orange for eating and nutrition".

Personally, I carry a semi (Shield, 9mm) but I am considering getting a 442/642 or LCR to carry in a small fanny pack when we go out walking at night. We live in a rural area, and there are loose dogs and even coyotes roaming about...we like to walk our small dogs, and I worry more about them being attacked than I do us. I've been going over various options for this, including a LCP/BG380, but the main reason I am considering a small revolver is so I can load a couple of rounds of snake shot...which pretty much rules out a small semi. I prefer a semi, but there are some applications for which a revolver is better.

So do I, depending on the season and dress. I prefer the Shield, more capacity and better trigger, but my snubby does conceal better. Not crazy about it's long DA trigger pull, but I've gotten used to it.

I forgot to mention that I have a 340PD which at 12 ounces is light enough to carry in my front pocket. It is vastly more reliable (and more powerful) than most pocket autos.

Just got my 642 and love it. It's UNREAL how it carries and disappears.

I carried a 2.5" M66 for many years, than I bought my first 1911! These days I carry a 3" Kimber 1911 pretty much exclusively, I am a big fan of the .45 acp. When flying somewhere, I take a Glock 27 so I don't have to worry about my Kimber getting "lost" by the airline. Autos are easier to carry and conceal in my opinion.
This said though, I much prefer revolvers for my general shooting, and for matches and hunting, I don't use anything but revolvers.

I carry both, but I carry two guns at all times. My primary and either a CS9 or a 642 Bug, plus reloads for all, so bullet count never precludes me from carry what I want.

My primary varies from an L-comp, to 3" .44, 1076 or on special days, my Pre-27.

Love my Airweight 637-2. I just bought it and carry it. I was carrying a semi auto. Yiogo

If I need something with thump, as hiking in bear country, I carry a 3" .357 Mag or .44 Mag revolver, loaded with hard-cast semi-wadcutters. For everything else, I carry a SIG P220 (.45 ACP) or P239 (.40 S&W), with 2 extra magazines.

I carry both too...real close to 50:50 revolver:semiauto I'd guess. I OWN a lot more revolvers than semiautos however.



Hey Sailor...do you actually practice with 357 mags in that little beast? If so, you are a manlier man than I!! I have the M&P340 also and I like it, but I practice and carry it with 38 Sp+P...the 357 mag is just a little too much for me in that little package!

For cc I like my Bulldog 44 Sp. Really light, compact & will hit like the hammer of Thor.

My EDC has been some sort of wheel gun for over 40 yrs. Currenty I pocket a 340 M&P having retired my Colt Cobra, and my Model 38 is in the shop for a long overdue "strip & clean."

I've got several revolvers that I carry,(442,2.5" 66, and a 3" 65) but my primary EDC is a Glock 19.

80 to 100 degrees..... LCP
60 to 80 degrees.......Sig 239 9mm
45 to 60 degrees........Mod 66
25 to 45 degrees........Sig P229 .40 S&W

Here in Phoenix we also have 2-3 months of the 100-120 degree category...if at all possible it is the same as Buckey's 0-25 degree category, but 2-3 months is a looong time to stay in the house!

These days, I mostly pocket carry a 2" S&W Model 36.

If I don't think I'm going to have to disarm, I carry anything from a 5" Norinco M1911 to a 3" S&W Model 65.

Revolver or semi-auto doesn't make much difference to me. It's whatever mood I'm in.

Rare day we get 80 degrees here in the PA forest. We do get a lot of those lower numbers though.

12" - 24" - M&P45fs with the 642
over 24" .... life still goes on here, so the M&P makes the trip.

I'm waiting the arrival of a 60-15, I will have to re-evaluate my criteria.

When I get up in the morning and get dressed, I decide which gun I like best, then put it on.

Usually, that's a snub-nosed revolver of some type. Sometimes, it's a single-stack semi-auto of some type. Very rare, exceedingly rare, is it a double stack semi-auto of any type. I tend to prefer my guns and women in a similar fashion, with curves and a round butt.

A pair of J frames, 357 Mag is primary; 38 Special is the BUG. ALL reloads are 38 Special for obvious reasons.

I have a J frame, K frame, and several semi's to choose from that include the shield and two Sig's (9mm & 45).

However, I alway's choose the model 66-1 2.5" as my primary and secondary year around. I don't care if it is a 100 degrees or zero degrees, the 66 snub goes where I go along with a Bianchi speed strip.

S&W Bodyguard 38 SPL +P with crimson trace laser grips. I must say I do very well with it .I sometimes carry my Kimber ultra cdp 45.

Summer's I pocket carry a lot. Carry either a Kahr CM9, or more often a 638.
Like the idea of more rounds in the Kahr, but I reach for the Smith more often for some reason.
IWB/OWB, then it's either a G19 or an XD45 tactical. Depends on the weather and my dress. May even start carrying OWB with my Model 64 when I get the holster I ordered in.

I carry an auto at work since the department says I have to.

Even then, I carry a revolver as a backup.

When i'm not at work, I carry a revolver. Period.

We have 60 degrees for about 36 hours. We call that season Fall.
Immediately after Fall, we get winter. Winter is anything between 30 and -35. Last Winter we had a lot of the cold -10 to -40 and no snow really to enjoy it.
Spring comes in April and lasts about 3 days. Then we get summer. This one is a doosey with temps always above 90 and humidity at about 90%. Next week we are supposed to be in the 80's and I'm looking forward to it.

I actually fly to Denver in the winter to warm up. The mountains are unbelievably warm compared to WI.

the difference can be amusing. while I was moving one trip up nort just about recaptured me. snow was starting to fall when I rolled out and by the time I slipped winters grasp the trusty steed was well caked in snow.
pressing on, non stop as I usualy do I ended up pulling into the parking lot at the apartment complex where the wife and I used to be with the car STILL caked in snow and getting strange looks in the 75 degree weather.
You'd think it would all melt and blow off by then .. but it don't

I carry both... Ruger LCP or S&W 60 .357. It depends on what my travel plans or just what my personal motivation is for that day. I also have carried my Colt Mustang Plus II, S&W 49 and yes, I love my S&W 61 as a back-up.

.22 autoloader, 5 shot. It was made for 3 or 4 years in the early 70's.

Most people (CCW and OFF DUTY officers ) I know carry 2-3 inch 38-357 revolvers and single stack med to small size pistols.

I switch between a 442 and a model 60.

If you have a revolver and you are comfortable shooting it, then you are probably better off sticking with that type for carry. Autos will introduce a different level of complexity into your manual of arms. No matter how many new "revolutionary" autos are introduced every year, the compact revolver still hangs in there, and for some very good reasons. Get your basic five-shot .38 snub (there are a few compact six-shot models out there, too), and load it with a good example of +P ammunition. Practice at very short range. If you find you can carry a slightly larger revolver, such as a two-to-three inch K-frame, that'll do fine as well.

I alternate between a Sig Sauer P290 and an LCR (extra mag foe the P290 and speed loader for the LCR). If I need any more ammo than that I'm probably screwed anyway!
