Anyone else like shoulder holsters?
I love my Miami Classic for my 40c, but it would seem I am in the minority on that.

I had an Aker rig that closely mimicked a Miami Classic for a SIG P229 once upon a time. I liked it, but OWB works best for me for a full-size handgun.
I never tried it, but I've often surmised that a double-rig a'la a Miami Classic might provide ideal balance carrying a brace of one's favorite pistolas. Hollywierd fantasies aside, mind you, I'm not advocating "dual-wielding" or the like, just pondering if such a setup would make a good way to have a second pistol at-the-ready.

I've got a Galco rig for my G19. I use it in the winter under a coat. I like it when driving.

I like them, but where I live, clothing is not conducive to them (hot all the time)

Striker fired and internal hammer guns in horizontal shoulder holsters scare me to death. A revolver or a gun with an outside hammer and the hammer down doesn't scare me. I think a vertical holster is a good way to carry a large pistol. Larry

Well you wont want to be around me. I love it. Probably because of a good amount of driving. I don't care if it adds a vest to my attire. Actually starting to to like the vest in my attire anyways.

I have a Monarch rig from Andrews and a minimalistic rig from Null, both for J-frames. Excellent shoulder holsters, and well worth the investment.

Kanewpadle and Tops, This one's for you. It is a custom hand boned cowhide vertical shoulder holster from FistInc. No cumbersome thumb break or strap of any kind. There is a retention "dimple" behind the trigger guard.
Effortless one-hand draw and re-holster. Hides and rides very well. I love it in jacket weather. It is a nice change of pace from belt carry. And I find it a lot more comfortable on road trips.
This one was made for my G-36 and features two mag holders on the other side.
I bought a nylon horizontal rig for my G-23 but I hated it from the first time I put it on and it now lives in the same dresser drawer with all my other rejects.

Just out of curiosity, what types of vests do you wear? I'm a fleece vest junkie and love that, now with the weather getting cooler, I can break out some of my favorite covering garments.
I admit, I even like those photojournalist-style vests from time to time! :-)

I have Galco Miami Classics for K-Frames and Glocks. Haven't used them for years. I do use my Kramer Confidant undershirt holster exclusively in the summer to carry my Glock 23 or 27. It is incredibly comfortable. I've never been able to say that for a shoulder holster.

I have a Miami Classic I use with my HiPower and 1911. It's balanced pretty well with mags in the off side. I primarily wear it when I'm travelling, just for ease of access.

You are correct! I do not associate with people that carry striker fired and auto internal hammer guns in horizontal shoulder holsters. The only striker fired or internal hammer guns that I carry with the barrel loaded are rifles and shotguns when I am hunting. If I pointed one at you you would have a hissy fit but you think it is ok for you to walk around with your pistol pointing at me. The bottom line is that I don't carry any striker fired or auto internal hammer pistol with the barrel loaded. Larry

Very nice! Ugh - it's pics like this that make me ponder shoulder rigs anew!
May I ask two questions:
What is in the offside pouches; speed strips?
What type of stocks are those?
Thanks!

I've got a nice vintage Colt branded upside down rig for a D-Frame, perfect for road trips, the winter, and even the summer under a black lightweight button down shirt.
But I am just a D-frame lover....so that might be part of it too.

I wear the photo journalist/safari vest, or a 511 tactical. I'm in Texas and the coolest its gotten this year is 65 and that is this weekend. I know the photo vest or 511 would get people who are knowledgeable about firearms to assume I may have a gun. Its still not open carrying, and if they assume I have one just by the vest they probably have one too so its not going to make them uncomfortable. I also love having the extra pockets. I'm thinking when of gets cooler to use a Carhartt vest.

The Miami classic covers the trigger. I have never heard of a striker fired pistol going off while not being handled. Would you care to educate me? Considering the M&P pistol is legal in Mass. that means that it had to pass the $250,000 drop test to make sure it wouldn't go off if it was dropped with one in the pipe. Looks like we wont be golf buddies anytime soon considering you don't like striker fired, and I don't like people who exaggerate, and get their panties in a bunch over nothing. I also carried my 92FS in a horizontal carry exposed during my last deployment in Iraq. Not a striker fired pistol, but just pointing out it was a handy and comfortable carry over there too.

Sorry I know this thread is about shoulder rigs, but I appreciate the vest commentary. I actually use those vest pockets, too!

The cover of a shoulder rig is just as important. I look forward to the opportunity to wear the Carhartt style vest, but will miss the extra pockets.

Loose .45 Colt rounds are in the (dump) pouches. The grips are Jerry Miculek. This -6 gets some HEAVY loads and the grips work well for me. I have a leather vest that I ride in that pulls duty on many fronts. It is almost always covering a Beretta Elite 9MM, 625-6, Early West german P220, or a Dan Wesson C-bob 10MM. There seems to be a little beef over striker pistols and I personally haven't seen many guns go off on their own. My Beretta Elite is carried cocked and locked like a 1911. If it points at you, then you shouldn't be behind me. If I'm pointing it at you, then you have other things to concern yourself with. If you don't like the show, turn the channel. I got a chuckle out of the "gun being pointed at you" comment as if ANYONE would like that. When your number is up, it is up. Don't invite it, but don't be so paranoid as to get another law passed that intelligent people already follow. If it is that scary, stay home where it is safe. There are days I feel "off" and I stay off the roads and follow my gut to not invite whatever my gut is not happy with. CYA and leave others alone............And tops, Thanks for your service in the FD. That's gotta take guts.

You both Have valid points. I maintain that all u.d.'s occur as a result of users error, however; it is valid to say that a horizontal rig breaks the first rule we all learned; don't point a gun at anything you don't intend to kill. I'm still undecided on this point myself.

I've tried a bunch of different shoulder rigs and didn't like any of them. The Ken Null SKR is the only one that comes close to being practical.

I understand the concept, but keep in mind in a horizontal rig your not pointing it. It hangs their and isn't going to go off unless the owner pulls the trigger. The concept of don't point at anything you don't intend to shoot is the number one rule. But keep in mind that when handling the firearm. Any holster points at something you don't intend to shoot. You cant tell me that a person wearing a summer comfort holster intends to shoot their A** off. You cant say that someone wearing a strong side holster intends to shoot their hip, leg, or foot. No matter what holster you use trigger control is going to be the key factor on whether you shoot something you didn't want to
shoot.

Having guns in horizontal gun racks on carts is not allowed at National Sporting Clay tournaments. Apparently I am not the only person that doesn't like having guns pointed at them. Horizonal holster or gun rack is the same to me. Larry

And Galco along with other manufactures sell millions of horizontal holsters. Apparently I'm not the only one buying them.

If I ever could afford one, I'd love to have one of Andrew's Leathers Monarch rigs for my 1911. Beautiful craftsmanship!

Brother, I also have a Miami Classic. You are not alone friend.
Mine is very old, unlike myself, but it is still holding together very well. My '68 KFrame .38 RB rides in it. The classic is great for driving and walking around. I should be able to anticipate/cover when I would need to pull it so I'm not worried about speed, I'm not in a urban warfare environment and I don't live in gangland. I'd like to try the sourdough pancake but not sure I'll like it, radios on my belt bother me a little and knives unless they're slim.
Enjoy the Day!
Dan

I like the Galco Jack***** rig for a 2" K-frame. Carries the gun nearly upside down, and for long road trips, it's pretty comfortable. I prefer strong side OWB for nearly all carry, but this is the one exception.
