Was atop a barstool at one of my usual haunts yesterday afternoon and was reading the newspaper and watching ESPN. Had laid the paper (
The Washington Post) on the bar whilst making a pit stop and when I returned the bartender had picked it up and was reading where I had left it open. It was one of the myriad stories re: the Newtown tragedy. She asked what I thought about gun ownership/carry/use and we engaged in a discourse soon joined by other patrons. Bear in mind no one there had any idea of my background.
The discussion was spirited yet polite and diverse opinions/thoughts/beliefs were expressed. The only constant was the extreme sorrow for the victims in Newtown. Interestingly (perhaps?), the most adamant in absolute favor of
guns for all was the female beertender who lives alone, sometimes works late, and is rather cute. I cautioned her she cannot shoot patrons who don't tip well and later quietly offered to carry on the discussion further...in private...as I didn't want the entire bar to know that I do carry. I am sure she will accept my offer...and suspect she will be more than a bit surprised.
Be safe.
