Gun-free Zones
Two examples of the great debacle called, "Gun-free Zones" took place recently here in GA. One, a church, where carry is prohibited. This past Wednesday, a prayer-meeting was being held at one of the mega-churches in the Atlanta-area. A shooter entered and shot dead the man leading the group in prayer. No one could stop him with their own firearm. Firearms are prohibited on church-property.
Friday night, a person brought a firearm onto school-property, where it is prohibited in GA to have a firearm, and shot a student at a high-school football game. No one in the crowd could stop him because their having a firearm on their person on school-property is prohibited.
Two prime examples of how "Gun-free Zones" do not work.....I am sure there are examples such as these in every state. When are legislators going to learn or admit that criminals do not obey their laws?

Only problem with GFZs is the signs don't go far enough.
GUN FREE ZONE, WE'RE SERIOUS
Problem solved. No one would challenge those.

A sign that reads, "Gun Free Zone", to a criminal works about as well as a screen door on a submarine.

To the criminal the sign says 'hey, come one in, rob, kill, no one here can shoot back', 'the police won't be here for ???minutes'.

There are almost no places in Washington that are legally effective "gun free zones". They are listed in RCW 9.41.300. Any other sign has no legal effect and no one pays attention to them as far as I know.

So your telling me, the signs by the theatres, for instance in the AMC in town, is basically just asking you do not carry? With no legal backing?

Yup. At WORST, if you were to be caught, and refuse to leave when told, it would be trespassing. There is another statute I forgot about, which applies as far as I know only to the Gorge Amphitheater at George. It's hidden in title 70. Since I can't imagine any reason why a reasonable responsible person would go to that horrid place, I don't care much even though the statute is blatantly stupid.

(Not trying to make this all about Washington, but as a CPL holder, I'm curious.)
I can see that in RCW 9.41.300, I did not realize however that it means the signs have no legal backing.
I thought however, that trespassing with a weapon was considered a felony? So couldn't you, if you refuse to leave, get trespassing->trespassing with weapon->Felony?
Regardless, If I am asked to leave a joint, I will be leaving. If I was not a huge movie buff, I would probably stop attending that establishment.

Locality is everything
In some jurisdictions, gun free zones are enforceable under local ordinances. Here in NYS, while we have some of the most prohibitive gun laws in the nation, we don't have enforceable gun-free zones except for various municipal buildings and those buildings covered under federal law.
We too had a lunatic enter a Roman Catholic church a few miles from my home where he shot and killed a priest and an elderly parishioner with a .22 rifle. Happened about ten years ago.
No guns in church? Then, no federali in church, either.

Nope, trespassing is a misdemeanor (CT2) or Gross misdemeanor (CT1), and the difference is that CT1 is a building. If you are sloppy about concealment, that's your own fault (open carry is completely clownshoes, don't do it).
There is no statute in Washington that gives any legal authority to any other limitation, posting of signs, or whatever. HOWEVER, if like me you have multiple licenses and or a retired LE ID and carry pretty much everywhere, you need to be aware that in some states such signs do have legal backing and the consequences are very different.

I am very, very good at hiding my shield. I have had a few buddies that have all CC for years follow me around running errands and nobody has been able to tell where its hiding.
I also dont leave Washington much, but i have toyed with getting an Oregon permit just in case...

I am not sure Oregon is real good with non-resident carry, but it is a couple of years since I looked into that, and with my retired ID I'm good to go anyway. Utah and Florida good choices; I also have some from the New England states.
