Some of North Carolina's laws are silly, specifically when you have a gun in the car. You have to have it out in the open, unloaded if you dont have a CCP.

Also, in order to buy a handgun, you have to go to a LEO, buy a "pistol purchase permit", of which the laws vary by county, and I think they may have a limit of guns you can purchase in a month.

Hopefully they address this.

It's not a big deal for me because I have a CCP from a reciprocal state.

Nipster, you are confused on your facts.

1. If you have a CCW, you do not have to go anywhere, you buy what you want.
2. There are no limits under State Law.
3. As for your car comment, concealed means concealed, whether you have it in your coat or a glove box. It's a non-issue if you have a CCW, if not, then you can't carry it concealed, which is common sense.

The legislature did away with the suspending of all CCW's in a disaster area, which was great. Now they need to remove the need for LEO permission for class 3 weapons, as well as pass a law keeping places like Chapel Hill-Massachusetts from passing laws that attempt to override State Law on firearms.

Hopefully, some of our concealed carry laws will be changed. Presently, we can't carry in restaurants where alcohol is sold and consumed. I can't carry in the Mexican restaurant where alcohol is sold, but I can next door in the restaurant with no alcohol. If I'm responsible enough to carry concealed, I'm responsible enough to not drink alcohol while carrying. Right now, our lawmakers don't see it that way.
We'll see if anything changes.

My peve is that we are background checked and given the concealed carry permission but when I need to enter the US Post Office I have to leave my weapon in my automobile and if I want to watch my grand children while they participate in an athletic event or graduate or anything on school property I have to leave my weapon in the automobile. We all know that the auto is the least secure place a weapon be kept. I contend that if I can be trusted some of the time why not all the time and anywhere?

My comment on concealed was mainly specific to vehicles. In many states, you do not need a CCW to have a firearm concealed in your car. In NC, you do. But you can have it out in the open. Which seems kind of odd to me. Many people travel with guns who would normally not carry concealed day to day and have a CCW. Mainly affects people who travel.

Regarding smitholdtimer's comment,

NC State law prohibits firearms anywhere on school property, including within vehicles in the parking lot. This strategy would only work if you parked off school property.

Mark, of course you are correct so with these laws in mind, lets include the VA Hospital, same rules apply there. There are many other forbidden locations to add to this list but citing just these two locations my only alternative is to just not carry, period. The problem this presents causes me to be unarmed the complete trip instead of just the non-carry destrinations. I am not intelligent enough to figure a solution but am looking forward to suggestions if there are any. Thanks.
