Default What do you carry in your vehicle?

I recently purchased a 40c but don't want to keep that in my truck in case someone ever broke into it. What do y'all carry in your vehicle that stays there?

Personally, I wouldn't leave a gun unattended in a vehicle for longer than I needed to disarm to go into a CPZ. What use is it to you when you're not in the vehicle anyway? In some states (Ohio, for instance) it's a crime to leave a loaded firearm in a vehicle with an unlicensed person when the licensee is not present. Forget the gun in the car and let an unlicensed family member drive that vehicle and you could be creating big problems.

The firearm that goes into my vehicle is the one that goes with me that day, on foot or driving.

Other than a Leatherman tool/knife there are and never have been any weapons in any of my vehicles. Makes no sense to me to have a weapon that is NOT on my person. In my State if you leave a weapon in your vehicle and it is stolen your CCW permit is HISTORY! They will also hold you liable for any crime or shooting done with your stolen gun. Law or no law - NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!

Nothing. First i dont want a possibly of theft and second i live on the boarder with NJ (not a gun friendly state) and often have to drive there. I dont want to have to keep remembering to take stuff out, which would defeat the purpose of having it there in the first place

Never looked at it from that perspective. Thanks for the input. Don't think I'll be leaving one in my truck.

I don't carry in my vehicle unless I'm on a road trip. I CCW in town. But when I'm on the road I have my Glock-21 (full size .45 auto - 15+1 Hornady Critical Defense or Gold Dots) In the console. I also have my Glock-36 (compact .45 auto on my belt or under my arm in case I'm not in my truck when "it" happens.

I never leave the truck with the gun in it.

+1 on not leaving one in the truck. On the rare occasions I NEED to, I have a safe bolted to the floor under my passenger seat.

I've contemplated leaving one in there at all times, maybe a .22 revolver and some ammo I could toss in my truck's bug out bag if need be, but I still don't like leaving a firearm unattended in my truck for so long.... even in the safe.

I leave a BG380 in the truck. Never considered a reason not to until my wife took the truck with the gun and she didn't have a permit.

So I got her a permit.

I'll have to find out if it's a law that I can't leave it in my truck.... I don't think so. Lots of people have guns in their vehicles... Like for hunting, guys will have 6 rifles in their trucks and they don't take them into McDonalds when they stop for lunch....

Cars are much to easy to break into and firearms to valuble to have stolen. I have my J-frame 38 spcl. on me when I get into and out of the car. I never leave anything of value inside . I have had thieves break into a car just for a radio, it wasn't even a good radio, it was so old the 8 track didn't even work anymore.

i considered trading my truck in for a M1A1 Abrams tank (open carry gun on top), but the fuel bill was going to put a dent in my ammo budget, plus the ladies at the grocery get all mad when you park it on their Volvos.

take my gun with me.

I have kept a shotgun with small shot and buckshot in my vehicle 24/7 for 50 years. When I leave home I have a small and a large pistol and the large pistol is left in the truck a lot. If a gun get stolen I will do the same as if anything else gets stolen. Buy another one and get on with life. If I lived in a state where I would be in trouble if somebody stole my gun out of my vehicle I would find me a new home at 5 mph above the speed limit. Larry

I don't look at it as covering my butt or me losing a gun. I don't want to give some low life a free gun.

I haven't had me truck or home broken into, but I figure there's a greater chance my truck would be broken into, especially since I do HVACR and have lots of tools and equipment.

Here in MA it's illegal to leave a gun unattended in a vehicle (big surprise, I know). One item I carry is a big can of Prestone De-Icer. It shoots a stream of ammonia and rubbing alcohol about 10 feet. Good for repelling boarders without shooting them.

I never leave weapons of my person! You are responsible for your weapons. For folks who hate to touch guns I suggest a can of hornet spray. It shots one heck of a lethal large spray, a very long distance. Really floods the bad guy. For those unsafe places where most people can't carry, (gun free zones). Pepper BlasterII comes in handy. We give the non-sworn gals in our office Pepper Blaster II for Valentines Day presents. Check it out: pepperblaster.com/

Too many guns get stolen from vehicles, and even law enforcement vehicles get targeted - a number of police departments and individual officers have donated quite a few guns to the crooks over the years. A couple of years ago, an associate of mine in an unmarked vehicle was inside a store for a total of 12 minutes. When he returned, a pistol, as well as other equipment had been taken after the lock got popped. We spent a number of days chasing down that gun. We finally recovered it before there were any mishaps, but we had all had better things that we should have been doing. On top of that, there weren't any prosecutors interested in a case against the burglers so they basically walked. In this day and age where gun owners are under a microscope, we must be pillars of responsibility. The old days of leaving a lever gun or a shotgun in the gun rack in the truck with the keys in the ignition and the front door unlocked are a distant memory.

As everyone has pretty much posted, I never leave a firearm in the vehicle. It's just not wise. I always have a handgun with me and it goes in the truck when I'm traveling. We live in a pretty rural area, so I'll often toss a 16-inch barrel Model 92 lever action in .45 Colt up front with me, but that's only when I'm in the hills or driving the back roads.

I keep a 1911 in a rug under the front seat, a Glock 27 in the console, and a Ruger SR22 in the glove box. Often times there's a .357 lever gun behind the back seat as well. It's seldom unattended for long. It's parked in the garage at night and wife has her own car.

On the few occasions I drive it to the big city (i.e., Little Rock), I pull them all out of the truck and just carry whats on my belt.

I am a full time student at an institution that refuses to recognize the right of its students to defend themselves by carrying a gun on their person. As I'm often there at odd hours, and the school isn't in the best part of town, I do not wish to be completely unarmed.

For that reason, my S&W 64 is usually handy in my car, although it goes inside with me at night and at other places where I can do so.

In Kentucky, it's legal to keep a gun in any manufacturer-installed compartment in your vehicle regardless of whether or not you have a CCW. Your employer can not fire you for storing a gun in your vehicle on company property.

Fortunately last spring, the Kentucky Supreme Court also ruled that colleges can not legally prevent students or employees from storing a gun in their vehicle.

I have a Taurus PT709 on my hip at all times and I have a SW40VE with an extra magazine under the driver's seat in a locked gun safe attached to the seat frame. I unlock the safe before I start the car and lock it after the engine is off. I will let you guess what I am prepared for.

Great choice. I'm always headed to a baseball game so a junior aluminum is usually bumping around.

If I leave a sidearm in the car, it's in my lockbox in the trunk, and not for long at that. I've heard of some people keeping a 'tool box gun' in their truck. If you're going to do that, I recommend a Hipoint, if it gets stolen, you're out less than $200. I believe it's irresponsible leaving a gun in the car personally, and I'm a hell of alot more concerned about a perp having my gun than I am a perp robbing me of $200.

I don't leave anything in my vehicle. If i'm carrying then it's on me and stays there where ever I happen to be and when I get home it goes in with me.

Why the Honey Badger of course, she keeps me safe from all danger, I pity the fool who would underestimate the Honey Badger, and she is quite lovely, of course the sweet little K-17, with the pearlescent Ajax pimp grips, backs up those condesending looks of disapproval. The fact that she named it Billy many years ago does bring a slight smirk to my ruggedly handsome face. She really is gorgeous, and not to be messed with, I only smirk when she turns her back. Question for those who live in states that you can't leave a gun unattended in the car. Is it illegal for someone to break in your car and steal that gun? That's what I would ask the judge...probably wouldn't see it my way. In the meantime, I keep an old Charter Arms .38 Undercover beside me in the truck.

Here in Vegas it's legal to have a gun either in plain sight or concealed in the vehicle. I keep a Bulldog 44 sp. within easy reach.

My policy when it comes to guns is to trust no car, no neighborhood, no supermarket parking lot, no one...no foolin'. Cars are not gun vaults, and it is the height of irresponsibility to leave a weapon in your car, legal or not.

Default What do you carry in your vehicle?

Bersa Thunder 9 UC pro. I work in a hospital, so I have to leave it in the car. In a safe of course. I understand the risk, and I don't want to arm a thug, but my option is to leave it or go unarmed for most of my time away from work or home.

I have a small gun safe in my car, and if I have to leave a gun in the car (for example, when I take my wife to one of her physical therapy appointments, which is in a hospital) then I lock it in the safe. I realize that it isn't perfect, because nothing is totally foolproof (a thief could steal the entire car!) but it will delay or perhaps stop a smash and grab thief. When I get home, I do not leave a gun in the car, even though it is in an enclosed garage.

Backlighting from Vegas is correct, but fails to mention that although Nevada is a 'must-issue' state, there are private establishments who post 'No Firearms Allowed" signs on the doors to their premises. This is a problem for CCW folks who obey such signs. If possible, I will not patronize such locations. Medical offices, where folks may have to undress for exams, often have such signs. I usually take my chances and not carry when going to an MD's office. I will not leave a weapon in a vehicle unattended.

I have those gun vaults in my car and truck. The car has a G17. The truck has a G21. meh, Glocks. So what if they get bounced around and scratched up?

Yep, plus it's not a "weapon". It's even farther away from a weapon than a baseball bat, which closely resembles a club or bludgeon! I learned that one from an old STRESS cop.

The only "weapons" I leave in my vehicle are a hickory walking cane, also a knife located in a pocket on the inside driver's door. I have a CC permit so the knife is covered if a LEO questions the knife; I have never had a problem about it but was informed by my BIL (a police chief) that it could be an issue with some offficers.
When carrying my gun, it goes wherever I go.

Just remember guys, if someone steps out of a vehicle with a baseball bat, tire iron, length of chain, length of wire, hatchet, numchuck, sword.... you get the message. Anyone who is armed with a device that could cause bodily injury or even death can be shot in self defense. The knife attack is more worrisome because an attacker can close distance very quickly and deliver a fatal stab or cut. Bat swinging can be stopped before you can yell "play ball".

Moral to the story. Have your gun with you.

I leave a gun in my vehicle, cause I want to make sure I always have gun. I recently picked up a M&P for under $200, need to work in the springs a little more and test it, but that will be my truck gun.

I have no kids.

Someone could break in my house and still a gun too. I'll have to look into laws. But if my truck gets stolen, and I lose my permit, that is just more liberals not putting the blame on the criminal.

I do lock my doors when a gun is there.

I have thought about getting a club for my truck and bike. WI allows the carry of a batons with CC. You could have a guy full of road rage, but unarmed. I don't want to get into a fair fist fight.

Luckily in WI, you can have your gun in your vehicle at work. When I lived in IN, you couldn't, so that was 5 days you couldn't carry.
