Diamond D Custom's Guides Choice Leather Chest Holster
My M629 2.5" fixed sight .44 mag for protection while hiking or doing trail maintenance in the National Forest. Needed a holster rig for use with Chainsaw back pack, back pack, butt pack, or on the trail bike. Have had a couple really close encounters with black bears while on the trail. We had a young lady killed by a black bear here a couple years ago.

With backpack
With butt pack
Looks like it's going to work out well. Just need to wear it while in the woods and get it adjusted. Should work well when for running through and cutting blow down on the TW200. Spent the morning rubbing it down with mink oil. It's going to get wet, only a matter of time.

Looks like a great system for hiking, especially with backpack and stuff. Is it comfortable to wear? I never wore one and don't know about just having one shoulder strap. And a nice ride you got there

I just got it yesterday. It's comfortable around the house; but, I won't get a chance to use it in the woods till Tuesday or Wednesday. Will post some feed back, post trail work.

Looks nice and comfortable and keeps the gun close and out of the way. I'm eagerly waiting for your feedback after trail use as well.

That's truly a beautiful rig...both the holster and snubbie. Be careful on the bike while wearing that rig, since it could be driven into your chest, during an unscheduled dismount. Lots of discussion on motorcycle forums regarding safe carry while riding. Nobody has the perfect answer when it comes to comfort and accessibility, but your rig looks like it will wear well during work, and the flap will help protect from the elements and keep wood chips out of the action. Good luck out there, and thanks for the job you do keeping those trails open.

That is a good looking rig. but I have to ask this.
With that face why do you need a gun to scare off bear?

He's just jealous I've got a gambler rig from Old El Paso that places my Vaquero in about the same position. I wear it for hiking and hunting. Very comfortable for my needs, but I really like the looks of that Diamond rig.

I love my Diamond D Leather Guides Choice chest holster rig for my 629 5 inch. The wife always complained about how the barrel would dig into her leg while riding behind me on the ATV but this holster took care of that problem. Wearing a day pack was also a pain as I had to tie the hip belt out of the way so I could wear my 629 on my hip. The Guides Choice now allows me to wear a day pack with no interference problems with the pack shoulder straps or the pack waist belt. My holster is exactly the same as the OP but for my 629 5 inch but just doesn't have the flap. Once this holster is broken in ( it is really snug at first but breaks in quickly ) this a faster, more natural draw and firearm presentation for me. Excellent quality leather and craftsmanship. I am confident that in a bear encounter situation this holster will quickly get it done for me. You get what you pay for with Diamond D Custom Leather Guides Choice chest holster and well worth the money IMHO.

He's a handsome, rugged-looking feller, and in the indoor pic shows his eyes are kind...unlike some of the posts around here.
Care to share your ugly mug?

That't a handy looking outfit. I would like one of those rigs for hiking and riding my cycle. Currently, I use a military surplus chest holster that limits me to my Colt GM...I'd like one of those for my 629 and four inch Ruger Redhawk. I do some camping and hunting in the mountains of W. Va. Since, coming around a sharp bend in a trail and being a few feet facing a momma bear and her cub...She looked as surprised as I was and not happy and my armament was a six inch knife and a S&W 337...I have desired to tote something a bit heavier. I was very glad she allowed me to slowly back away and that neither of us was injured...That rig u have would be great. I'll have to save up for one for the coming Spring!

Could you provide a photo and some details on the holster you mention? It sounds interesting. I checked the Old El Paso Site and cannot find anything on it.

Diamond D makes a great chest rig. I've owned mine for about 2 yrs now. Mine carries a 1911 for SAR work.
It's also very comfortable. When it's adjusted correctly, the shoulder strap doesn't pull down from the weight of the pistol/ammo. The majority of the weight is supported through the waist straps.
Drawing from either the strap or flap isn't going to be quick, buts not slow either.
