I have owned 4 or 5 snubbies(637,642,442) and got rid of them all because even with trigger work (Apex kit and polishing) I still could not hit anything at 4 yards when firing like I felt I would do in a defensive situation.
I am a good shooter with all guns and slowing shooter snubbies was no problem, but I think in a SD situation I'll be jerking the trigger with a great adrenalin flow. I don't believe training could overcome the adrenalin rush.
So, my question is, I just bought a Colt Police Positive Special with a four inch barrel and a great trigger. Built in 1962 and has never been fired. I'm going to take it to the range and I'm sure it will hit the target even simulating adrenalin shooting.Do you guys think a 4inch revolver is OK for concealed carry and does anyone do it ?

Sure it's okay, if you can conceal it adequately.

Bottom line....if you feel more secure carrying a 4-inch barrel and you can conceal it, do it. There are folks who carry larger handguns and do so without much of a problem.

4" 681 in shoulder holster. Unfortunately I only carry it concealed in colder weather.

It's possible in warm weather in the shoulder holster as well. An unbuttoned shirt works well and allows easy access. It's just not too good if it is a windy day.

I carry a four inch or 3 1/2" N frame almost daily. (In the same holster)

It's all in the rig you wear and how you dress around it.

I have never thought that a 4 in. is that hard to conceal and that extra 2 inches of barrel sure makes it easier to shoot. Larry

Carried a model 65 4" SQ BT 357 as an off duty weapon since 1976....IWB......Have carried N frame 4" also concealed....as mentioned before....proper belt, proper holster, proper attire.....good to go.

If you can conceal it the 4" is almost better. You might consider a Colt Det. Spl. or Cobra for CCW. They are 6-shot, easy to conceal and just a bit larger than the J. I find them easier to shoot (than the Js) accurately in self defense drillls.

If you can shoot it effectively, there is nothing wrong with carrying a 4" as your primary self defense weapon. I prefer the 4" in the 5 O'clock position IWB. Less pokage up front than trying to carry appendix.

Before I got my 2 1/2" 66ND I carried a 4" 66ND IWB.

I sometimes carried a 4" 586 but that was when I lived in the Seattle area; sports jackets, wind breakers or raincoats were typical wear for most of the year. It's a different climate here in New Mexico so snubs are in. But if I could conceal it, I'd prefer the 4".

The Police Positive is just a longer barreled Det Spec. It should make a very good carry gun. One thing that gave me concern when I had the Det Spec is I broke my firing pin dry firing. It was hammer mounted.

Aside from sticking it in your pocket it is not the barrel length within limits that limits concealability. It's the grip.

I've carried a Colt Official Police or Official Police MkIII in .38 with a 4" barrel concealed for years. IWB holster at 4 O'clock under an unbuttoned cover shirt over t-shirt.

Get a holster for a Ruger SP 101 4". The PPS should fit perfectly. I carry 4" Ks in a Bianchi Pistol Pocket IWB and they conceal very well.

I've frequently carried a 3" Model 65. It's accurate and not that hard to conceal.

All you need is the right holster and stocks.
