Default Ankle holster choices

I'm very happy with my Renegade but a friend of mine is interested in the Galco style since he likes the molded leather/thumb break...a few questions:

Does he need the thumb break of is the retention screw model good enough (will it loosen with time?)

Also, Desantis and Bianchi make similar designs but you can find them for about 20-25 bucks cheaper...anyone have one of their to comment on? I already know the Galco ankle glove is top notch from what I've read here...I'm also curious myself...might pick up a back up rig and wouldn't mind something different if it's good enough for you guys.....

I used a Galco Ankle Glove for a baby Glock for over ten years. The Velcro on the ankle band started to get a little worn, but the holster its self is still very secure and serviceable. Even then, the holster has never come loose from my ankle. The thumb break is fine if the pistol has a little weight to it - otherwise it could come dislodged and fly out. Some of the airweight revolvers would probably do fine without a thumbbreak if the holster was molded well to begin with and quality leather was used. If your friend goes with a Galco Ankle Glove, I wouldn't be the only one to tell him he made a good choice.

I use the Galco on a Beretta Bobcat and my brother has one for a S&W 37. They were both bought used for about $15 each without the garter and have served us very well. The velcro gets "clogged" and needs cleaned out about once every 18 months.

Sip I had a Galco Ankle Glove with no retention strap and loved it until my wife decided it was hers.

I carried an LCP in an Uncle Mikes ankle holster for a while but didn't like the way the ankle band fit. I had to cinch the bejesus out of it to keep it from flopping around, which wasn't too comfortable. I think something with an elastic ankle band would be more comfortable. I also decided that it would be harder to draw from an ankle holster than a pocket holster, esp in a covert fashion, so I went back to using one of those when I carry the 380. BTW I usually A-IWB carry a Chief Special.
