Default Charter Arms Bulldog

Good morning all, I have the oppertunity to buy a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Spl that has only 100 rounds through it for $275.00. Do you think that this is a fair price? How compariable is the recol to the .357 say in an SP101? It looks good and feels good in the hand and will make a good carry weapon I feel, but I know nothing about Charter Armsand their quality. Thanks for your help.

Have owned two (2) in the past. The concept is sound but recoil is stout.

The price seems very fair. If I were in the area I would probably have a third one.

A 101 and a Bulldog are of similar weight and size. That heavy bullet of the 44 makes recoil a lot more than 38's. Not sure about 357's high velocity. Most of my friends that had Charter snubs in the past commented that they perceived recoil as higher than a similar S&W. But it is a lot of firepower in a small package! If it is what you're looking for, go for it. Ivan

I carry a CA 44 Special Bulldog, one with a 2 and 1/2 inch barrel and that was made in Stratford CT. I think I have read that they were made in two locations and that the best ones were made there. The action of the Bulldog is not as smooth as that of a Smith and Wesson but I like it
for primary carry because it is the only 44 Special revolver the size of a J frame that I have found.

I think it is a good buy for you and I paid more than that for mine some years back.

These guys have covered it well. I like them, but the trigger is not smooth as a S&W or is it very easily adjusted. I'd say, dry fire it a few times, if you can live with it, buy it. You won't find a .44 Spl in a more convenient and carry-able package IMO.

I have had 2 both 3" and my brother a 4".

Here is what I have to say about them.

Is it as smooth as a Smith? no.
Is it as nice looking? No
Is it lighter than S&W 696 5 shot 44 special. Yes
Is it a well thought out design? Yes
Is it functional and dependable? Yes
Accuracy? Fair, both of mine shot low with the fixed sights, but filing down the front fight adjusted that. I left mine a bit high at 25 yds. But remember that this isn't a target or good hunting gun, But for self defense and more than likely at short range.
Concealable? Very, even with the 3" barrel, easy pocket gun, belt or shoulder holstered. Never tried an ankle. But should be fine if you want your gun that far away from your hand a lot.
Recoil? It there alright. Slams you a bit. Your going to have to come back on target, but if you shoot it much you get used to that. Got to have a good grip. Round bottom frame. Grips that are a bit rounded, but wide in the back filling your middle palm area and tapering so your pinky, pulls up a bit. (I make mine to fit my hand). The right rubber ones might be better. Strong hands and wrists help.

Ya, I like mine.
I am looking for the right 455UL Taurus, a part alloy, 5 shot 45ACP, mostly because I really like moon clips and favor 45ACP over 44 special, because of that and because there is so much more 45ACP ammo.

I would really love a S&W L frame 5 shot, 45ACP, 3" barrel with some alloy so it weight less than 25 oz. and a pinned front sight and fixed rear.
