CCWsafe: anyone familiar?
I've heard a few radio ads for this "use of force" insurance for $99/year. I could not find anything on their website to show what attorneys they use, or other details. I know that the NRA offers basic coverage for $165/year but this would be a bit more inexpensive. I'm wondering if anyone on the forum knows anything more about this organization and how worthwhile it might be to sign up with them.

Not much help, but I have at least heard of it, and had looked up their website. Beyond that, i didn't really see much info offered.
Glad you mentioned it though, i guess i didn't realize NRA coverage was a separate price tag.

If you shoot someone and think your $99 lawyer will get you off, then best of luck to you.
Also note that services like this are NOT insurance. If you have insurance, and you lose your case, your insurance will cover you. If you have CCWSafe and your $99 lawyer loses your case, you are still on the hook for the damages. If you can get a Comprehensive Personal Liability policy for cheap that would cover your damages as well as your attorney with no deductible, why would you fall for one of these radio ads?

I have heard of them, but cannot attest to their credibility.
From my research, the most comprehensive insurance policy
available is offered by https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/membership/

I wonder if buying such a policy could be used against you in a trial if you ever did have to use deadly force. I can hear a lawyer telling a jury
"See, he was expecting to shoot someone, maybe looking forward to it, he even bought insurance for it"
I am not saying that is correct, but wondering if it could happen.
thoughts?

After reading the websites in more detail, it appears that the US concealed carry policy is lot more comprehensive, but it is twice the price per year of the CCWsafe coverage. And while I am not an attorney, one provision of the CCWsafe details is a bit worrisome. It appears that you are only covered if in fact your use of deadly force was legitimate, and isn't this determination what you would need an attorney for in the first place? If the police and prosecutors believed your used your gun in a lawful self defense manner then you would be unlikely to be arrested and need an attorney at all. And if the police thought you acted unlawfully, then it appears your CCWsafe coverage would not be provided. Maybe I am making this overly complicated, but I would not want to spend $99 a year and then find the coverage is essentially useless. $197 a year for real coverage might be a better deal. I would hope others would voice their thoughts on this thread as well.

Steve,
I agree with your line of thought; in fact, I've also envisioned a court scenario where the owner of a "Judge" might be asked by a defense lawyer "if he thought he was the judge and jury in the killing of the victim"' based on the name of his gun. BTW, sorry for going off subject a little.

I don't have CCW insurance, but I can understand someone wanting it. Of course an attorney might try to make this kind of argument to a jury. However, I believe you could probably explain it in a manner that would make sense to a jury. You have auto insurance in case your car is stolen, wrecked, or damaged, but you hope you won't have to use it. You have homeowners insurance in case your home burns down or is destroyed by a tornado, but you hope you won't have to use it. You have Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance in case you die or are incapacitated in an unforseen accident, but you hope you won't have to use it. You keep a fire extinguisher under your kitchen sink in case your kitchen catches fire, but you hope you don't have to use it. You have all of these things to protect you from loss, but you certainly hope it doesn't happen to you. It is likely that a jury could look at CCW insurance in the very same way.

ASSUME that you WILL BE arrested, at least for a time-duration suitable for them to sort out the facts. Remember Zimmerman WAS arrested, booked, questioned ......at the P.D. ONly after explaining things to a prosecutor, who decided it was legit, was he allowed free. All night process, IIRC....and frankly that's quite fast!

You are in essence correct. The CCWsafe "board" would decide if a grant would be made in your case. As for me, I want something a little more certain...which is the benefit of USCCA Insurance - it covers all the relevant bases, guaranteed.
