I think my mom knows I carry ... and likely believes ignorance was bliss
My father had pretty much just assumed I did
two of my closest friends would think me an imposter if I didn't
My wife knows, of course. No hiding that
then there's this LEO at church I find myself working with, We just assume each other carries and shut up about it, speaking only of new acquisitions and the annual staged debate of calibers appropriate for the Easter Egg Hunt.
its a scream to see the looks on the faces of clergy and church mouse types when THAT gets rolling

Also found out spouse was talking about it at work. I asked him not to, and spouse has stopped. If someone wants to see my firearm, he or she can accompany me to the range. It is not a toy to show off. And if I need to use it, I want the bad guys to think that I'm just a clueless, sweet lady who poses no threat--until after I have chosen to take action.

I'll always walk away from a situation, if I can.
This is the correct mindset, "It is not a toy to show off".

I'm afraid to ask this but do you walk around Nevada with a name tag that says "Hi! I'm feralmerril"

Now it's my turn to dump a story

I was in a bar in Germany talking to some German woman who found out I used to live in Hollywood (at the time a city of 7 million). When I said Hollywood her eyes lit up and she asked "Do you know John?" "John who?" I asked "I don't know but he lives in Hollywood, I thought you might know him." she replied.

Things went down hill from there

we all should strive to be "teachers of the gun" if you will
And that's why I talk to you guys. I'm 25. The majority of you guys have a lot more life experiences than me.

There is a lot to learn for all of us. I just hope others are as willing to learn as you are.
That's where I don't question it. I know I shouldn't loan out the gun, and at the end of the night I thought I did good, hence the title of this post. But all these other guys pointed out a variety of mistakes I made and ways to avoid situations before they happen, and that's why I posted my story. I learned a lot from this thread. A few months ago I was in a different situation and all of it was going on inside my head. It was a brand new permit and a brand new gun and my feelings kept switching from Rambo to people freaking out and staring at a bulge in my pants. These guys helped me get over all that mental mess, too.

Not the smartest thing to do. 2nd, I may be wrong but upon basic review, it's still illegal in Georgia (I believe that's where the OP is) to carry in a bar. It doesn't seem too far a stretch that this situation is not nearly as volatile without the weapon in a place where inhibitions are being removed.
They worked on that law, but the finished Bill has not been signed into state law yet. Or, My understanding of house bill 60 is wrong. Either way, last I heard, house bill 60 is not yet law. The first place I was at is questionable as to whether it's a bar or restaurant. I'm sure a quick internet search can answer that. The second place doesn't serve food. Everything said and done involving me and bar number 2 was a mistake. I realised it upon entering and I didn't spend more than 15 minutes in there.

Whatever the arguments are currently, I won't go to either place again. And the new hangout spot will be chosen more wisely.

I think you are wrong headed in a lot of ways.
Where should I discuss my mistakes? Where do I go and who do I talk to to learn more? And why should I care about how the forum looks? If more people agreed with you, the admins would take my post down, so I disagree and disregard how the forum looks. But what's a better idea, since you don't like my idea?

And, again, I don't drink while carrying. I did not drink at that place. I also had to drive home, 100% sober.

Unn, it`s utah, smoke. We can open carry here but I cover all bases with a CC permit too. Funny, we can open carry but except for on the trails in the boonies, even though we can open carry, in town I have only seen a few people exercise the privilege. From what I read on this site it seems there are areas or pockets where people OC a lot. I dont know why I have only seen it next to never. I also seldom or never have seen those "No guns permitted" on business`s that many talk about. I must have been a bad guard as I never was the poster boy that was only to "Observe and Report" mantra the state tried to drum in us to get our cards. Actually, I very seldom pack but most of the time have one nearby.

Haha I had approximately the same conversation in Stirling, Scotland once. "Oh you're an American. Do you know John?" it turns out I did, I was there in a study abroad program and so was John.

Yeah I thought of that when I typed it up. I should have re-worded it.

I'm the one telling you the story with the purpose of improving myself, and trying not to be dumb or a thug.
First, if you really want to improve yourself, quit hanging with guys like Jay.
Second, I've C.C.W. 30 + years and I've never felt the need to tell someone I met in a bar that I was armed. That's just asking for problems.
Third, the second Jay asked for my gun, I would have been on him like ugly on an ape.
Fourth, After I was done explaining the facts of life to Jay I would have grabbed my lady and been out the door in a flash.

You had the perfect storm for trouble brewing. Honky-tonk, booze, hot babe shaking her stuff, and macho egos in play.

Think about what you did and why did you stay, when you knew trouble was brewing?

The only thing I disagree with here is I wouldn't have wasted my time with Jay, as soon as he asked for my gun I would have grabbed my wife and left.

If possible I would have left when I saw the trouble brewing

This ^^^^^^ and the fact the OP thinks "Jay" is "a cool guy."

Be safe.

In Oklahoma you would have been breaking the law. You could sit in another part of the establishment while carrying, but not the bar area. I understand that Colorado law is different.

In Colorado I am completely legal if I carry in a bar (of any type) as long as I don't drink.
Oklahoma is one of those "51% of the proceeds" places, so while restaurants that serve alcohol are fine (unless posted by the business), bars are not. On the other hand, having a drink while carrying is legal. Carrying "under the influence" is not. "Under the influence" is a BAC of 0.05% or more. Not saying drinking while carrying is a good idea, but a short beer with dinner won't ruin your day, or your life.
