Default owb carry releases mag

hello, I just had a guy make me a owb holster for my shield.
im left handed. I had it on in my shop last night and noticed that my mag was released.
I figured out what had happened. when carring iwb as usual my belt keeps anything from hitting the mag release because my belt it is out farther then the holster.
on my owb holster there is nothing to keep anything from hitting the mag release. I would have to be very carful not to bump up next to something. and being a plumber that's hard to do. anyway... guess I wont be carrying my shield owb anymore.
any of you had this problem?

You don't say what the holster is made out of or who this "guy" is but irregardless, a professional holster maker would have already function tested his holster(s) to make sure it worked properly with the pistol it was designed for. In this case it sounds like he didn't, and it doesn't.

ETA: There are MANY quality OWB holsters on the market which will do what you require.

it is a leather holster, a guy off ebay made my iwb holster for my shield he made this one as well. the iwb holster is great. I don't have any other pancake syle holsters for semi autos to compare to. I will have to look at some pics of left handed ones and see if other holster makers cover the mag release button up

I agree with NCW the problem is most likely the holster. Years ago I had a Bianci Model 5BHL duty holster that would knock off the safety on my 1911. I'm right handed and ended up making a slight alteration to the lining on the holster to end the problem. Could be your holster is the problem too

...or look into having the mag release switched to the other side.

Sawlog, any pictures? Sounds like a holster design flaw.
