Where do you buy your SD Ammo? Online? Local?
Need some suggestions for purchase of SD Ammo.
It's for my M&P FS 9mm. Looking at the moment at Speer Gold Dot 124+P or Federal HST 124+P, but any quality SD would be good.
I've found the Speer at ammunitiondepot.com for $26.97 for a box of 50.
I've seen "Self Defense" ammo at my local Gander Mountain, but the price for a box of 20 would about cover the cost of a small commuter car.
Where do you get yours? Online?
If so, what is your favorite web retailer?
Thanks in advance...rich

I get one box fresh defensive ammo per defensive gun every year locally, That's amounts to 3 boxes of quality HP ammo. I reload everything else.

Our local Sportsman's Warehouse store is a bit of a drive for me. But, when no one else had any 38 special on the shelf, they had some of the fancy Hornady ammo at prices similar to online sources.
Diamondback Police Supply is an even longer drive, but they have had bargains on ammo, especially Speer LE closeouts, in the past. Those days are probably long gone . . .

Either or, depending on availability. I default to calling the local brick and mortar first.
SGAmmo is quickly becoming my favored "E-tailer."

I've had no luck finding mine locally. Last I bought was online, direct from Buffalo Bore.

Depends whose got what I want. I usually buy local, sometimes from gun shows. Once in awhile by mail (which may close off soon if the commies who run California get there way).

I get it here, boxes are 50 for the usual price of 20 locally, usually in stock, and when I started, you couldn't find HST for private sale.

My LGS charges horribly high prices for Gold Dots (my preferred carry ammo). Like $2.00-per-round high. I'm all for helping keep the "little guy" in business, but not at those prices. Some other things are a little less salty, so I do buy some things, but I don't want to feel gouged after a purchase.
I got my last couple of boxes from Kentucky Gun Co. at around 80 cents per round, but they're out of stock now.

I purchase all my SD ammo locally, either from my LGS, Palmetto State Armory, Cabelas, or Academy Sports. Target ammo comes from Walmart.
I'm fortunate in that Palmetto, Cabelas and Academy are all within 1/3 mile of each other here in Greenville .
I try and shoot one mag of SD per range trip in my M&P 9 FS. My preferred ammo is Corbon DPX for my semis and Hornady for the revolvers.

The only place I have locally is Walmart. When I first got my Shield 40 I went there because I wanted it "now", but I have since discovered that I can do a lot better than paying 20 + tax for WWB, by looking for deals on the web. I have since been able to stock up from Midway, and Palmetto, on my Shields favorite, 180gr Magtech, for $4-5 cheaper per box than the Walmart stuff, and its dropped at my door. For SD stuff SGammo is hard to beat with their 50 round boxes. You can also us a site like AmmoSpy to help track ammo for you.

I've done both. My LGS has the same issues as everyone else with respect to getting ammunition but I do go to them first. I don't use up my SD ammo as fast as I do my range ammunition so it's not a significant dollar hardship to buy it from the LGS because it lasts. Even when I go to the range I don't shoot too many of the SD loads except to remind myself how they feel and work in the guns that I use for that purpose.

Local gun shop or gun shows. Best prices are at the gun shows. Just bought a 50 round box of Winchester Ranger .40cal for $25.95 yesterday. Not because I needed it, but the price was too good to pass.

Love to support local, but:
I happened to be in Gander Mountain today, and snapped this pic of a box of Speer GD124+P. $27.99.
For 20 rounds. Yikes!

I'm at the point now that wherever I can get the best price for SD or plinking, thats where I buy it. It's unfortunate because as much as I like supporting my LGS buying guns they are still way out of line on their ammo. A perfect example is I bought online a box of Federal Auto match 22's delivered to my door for $23.95. When I drive to my LGS and ask them how much, and they say $35.99 for the same box, guess where I buy them?

Local. By the time you add shipping from online sources you're at the same place or more.

Before all the madness I bought local. Now I buy wherever I find it mostly online.

I buy mine at Crazy Levi's House of Ammunition. It's a small place, has a homey feel to it. The manufacturing facility is right next to the retail facility. In fact I can even eat dinner and take a nap while acquiring my ammo.

I buy most of mine on line, the local stores don't have much of a selection and what they do have is ridiculously priced. I use Ammoseek, it lists ammo by price and who has it and you can link direct to the seller's site. I used it to find 5.7x28 a couple of weeks ago, I was able to order it from Selway Armory for $21.99 a box plus shipping. Only one shop had it locally and it was $37 and change per box for the same stuff.

Local
Now that law abiding NY gun owners are treated as criminals, we're no longer allowed to buy ammo online unless we have it shipped to an FFL dealer, adding to its cost.
I reload most of what I need and I have a few boxes of factory loaded SD ammo for my .45 ACP and my 9mms. The stuff doesn't have an expiration date but I do shoot off any ammo showing a few too many trips through the handgun as evidenced by extractor marks on the rim.

I get most of my SD ammo locally. If I needed a larger quantity SG Ammo would be my choice as they have really good deals on Speer Gold Dot, Federal LE and Remington Golden Sabre.

Well, it seems I misunderstood. Where the Streicher's web site listed "in stock", apparently they don't, really, have it in stock.
I was quoted "6-8 months" from the rep, when I asked what the shipment date might be.
I cancelled the order.
The search continues...

Well ok!
I was trolling ammo sites and discovered that SGAmmo.com | Family Owned and Operated Ammo Sales, Stillwater OK had Remington JHP, 4 x 25 round box - 9mm Luger +P Remington Golden Saber 124 grain BJHP Ammo GS9MMD - at $11.95 each). I ordered 4 boxes, with shipping, Total for the Order was $60.28.
These 124+P's are on Doc Roberts list, so I'm going to run 50 through then load up my SD mags.
And! I got an email at 3:42PM with a UPS tracker and delivery planned for 10/7/14.
Wow. Pretty impressed.

I carry HSTs. I used to buy locally but the supply of good defensive ammo dried up locally a number of years ago. So I reverted to ordering online when I found what I wanted at decent prices. However, I haven't bought defensive ammo for a number of years now.

Cabelas usually has what I need , 38spc, 9mm, 22lr(maybe). It's a 20 Mi. trip with tolls. I usually wait for a Cabelas coupon ($20 off on $100) then I stock up and make the trip worth it.

As of tonite, SGAmmo had (407) 50 round boxes in stock of Speer 135gr Short Barrel 38+P. Price is $28.95 per 50.
I haven't seen it locally for any price in at least 2 years.
