Black River is open for business!
I just have to crow a little bit. For decades the county Sheriff has limited the number of instructors certified to teach concealed carry classes to 15. That number has been maxed out for many years. Fortunately the Sheriff decided this year to increase that number. They had a waiting list of about 15 names of those that wanted to be added to the roll. They sent out a letter to all on the list telling them to submit their class material for approval. Surprisingly, only 6 actually sent in their materials. Out of those 6, 5 were selected. The actual sentence was, "Out of those six, five were deemed acceptable to the Kern County Sheriff's Office." The next sentence was music to my ears, "Your course was one which has been approved."
I've been an NRA and a martial arts instructor for some time, but this is a very exciting addition for me. Hopefully, it will bring in some new students.
I just had to take a second to share.
Anyone want a t-shirt?

Another way to prevent the masses from exercising their God given right of self defense. First you have to have classes to be licensed to carry. Then they simply decide not to certify the instructors. Bingo! No more licenses to carry.
Congratulations on your certification.

Are you asking for all courses I offer or just the CCW?

Sorry, this got lost in the weeds for a moment.
CA law requires instruction on gun safety and the law as a minimum. So, I start with that. - First is basic gun safety. This includes discussion and practical application.
- Next is law. It is impossible to cover every aspect of the law. Therefore, I try to hit the high points. I go over when and where it is illegal to carry, the specific points on concealment and what to do when confronted by the police.
- Real life scenario. This is where we discuss a real case and what happened.
- Then I talk briefly about gun handling and presentation from the holster.
- Range briefing followed by shooting qualification plus some other fun shooting.
- Written test for the renewal students, lunch for the new applicants.
- Holster selection including different types pros/cons.
- In depth presentation from the holster. Student practice and critique.
- More depth about gun handling and marksmanship.
- Written test for the new students.
The class is 4 hours for the renewal applicants (state mandated) and 8 hours for new applicants. However, I'll stay as long as necessary to make new applicants feel more comfortable. Renewal applicants are allowed to stay for the extra gun instruction if they like.

I should add that my classes are limited to 8 students. At the range only 4 shoot at one time. More than that and it can become unsafe with only one range master. This makes for only two groups shooting which makes the shooting go a little faster.
I could have more than 8 in the class room, but I want to ensure as much personal attention as possible. There are no stupid questions. I'd rather answer the same question 8 times than have a student leave without having his question answered.
