Stopped at the sheriff's office this Wednesday to renew my Oregon CHL.
Turned in the paperwork, check and had picture taken.
The clerk said it would issued within 6 weeks.
She gave me a 45 day temporary licence.
Did not need it, my new CHL was in Thursdays mail.

I've always found it funny that you need a government-issued permit to exercise a pre-existing constitutional right. The Second Amendment contains two gun rights: the right to "keep" and "bear" arms. It doesn't say, "...unless the gun is concealed." Thank God three states have recognized that fact (AZ., AK. and Vermont).

I do live in utah. While our gun laws are good here, thats not the only reason I retired here. Great scenery, and I live to ride the trails. Out of town its mostly BLM and state forest`s and national parks. It was like stepping back 60 years in time after having lived in southern california.
May not be the best place to be looking for a job though, but I aint looking.

Here in Indiana i applied for my "lifetime carry" permit and sent in my
application/fingerprints thru the local police station along with a check for 75.00 (We are a "must" issue state)...
Got my permit in 3 weeks. Now i'm good to go (forever).

Here in CA (yeah, that's right I said CA) my renewal took ten minutes at the Sheriff's station. If I had submitted it at the sub-station it would have taken a whopping 2 days.
Even so, yes, I wish I lived in Utah. I have some friends in Sandy and it's beautiful there.

YES! Absolutely!! I love Utah and visit there at least once a year. Gun laws are one thing but it would still be my favorite state. Son number one lives in Southern Idaho and when we visit him I have this tendency to slip out his back door for a few days and see the sights Utah has to offer. You are one lucky guy.

Strictly speaking from a CA compared to CO view point... better milked than [cattle] prodded

We're camp hosts at Beaver Mountain, just a short distance from Bear Lake. If you bring a high-clearance 4 wheel drive, you can take a fantastic trip on our trails.

Theresa and I live in cedar city, sw utah. Our thing is riding the trails. We average at least twice if not three good rides a week on our rzr in good weather. It seems at the end of each ride I say, well hon, this will be a hard act to beat. Then it seems our next ride DOES beat it! We moved here in 2005. We immediately bought a new 650 Bombardier Traxtor. Recently I bought a used 2012 Polaris RZR 900 XP. We couldnt ride for several years as I had my nose cut off one year and Theresa has been laid up two other years with foot operations etc. I believe we have rode about 7,000 miles of trails so far. I would say we only average about 35 miles each ride if that. Many other people we know seem to like bragging about riding a 100 miles or so average ride. While we Have done that several times we rather get off a lot and take in the area and poke around and theresa always takes a ton of pictures each ride. While we are members of a local club that rides every weekend we are loners and like to ride by ourselves. When a group go`s you eat a lot of dust and dont stop when YOU want to stop. However there is safety in numbers and you know you wont have to spend the night in the middle of nowhere if you brake down.
We push it and almost every ride could be in deep bandini if something breaks. We carry basic survival gear and snacks. Many years ago I worked for the NPS for a couple years and every day was far off the road or trails but I wasnt 73 years old. Where we live many neighbors have a yard full of quads, one for each member of their familys.
We have pretty much covered most of the trails in a 80 mile radius around us (or a 160 mile circle) several times and seem to have to drive farther out to see new country. Its spectacular out here and there is a lot of just as nice country besides Cedar Breaks, Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks all within a hour of us. Out of town most of the country out here is BLM and state forests etc. I hope to also start flying around here to spot more interesting trails to ride from the air. I just got back into flying after almost a 30 year or so hiatus. Just got my old citabria restored and flew it back from california about three weeks ago but havent really flew around here much as I am getting a few squawks fixed.
Utah is a high elevation state. (Not a good thing for flying). We live at 6,000 feet and I believe the lowest elevation in the state is about 2,500 feet around st. george 50 miles south of us. It does make it nice to be able to drive up to high as 11,000 ft not far away to escape the heat in summer or down to 2,500 feet in winter to ride sand hollow near st george and beyond. Mesquite Nevada is about a hour and a half from us. Good cheap eats and has the gambling temptation that pays for the eats.
Its been growing just since we got here. When we first arrived after living in S. Calif it was like stepping back 60 years in time. Go to the post office or DMV and it was like, where ya been? We been here waiting on you. I will see if I can get Theresa to put some new pictures of our recent rides on my computer and post a couple soon.

YES, besides Wyoming, it's probably the most beautiful state in the country, imo.
