Default CCW and traveling

I will soon be traveling from NC to GA thru SC. Will I be able to bring my gun or do I have to leave it home?

Concealed Handguns Reciprocity
Here is your state's reciprocity info. Might as well get used to doing the work yourself. Good luck.

This is a good resource if you have a concealed carry permit:

Handgunlaw.us

You will need to do more research (on state government websites) for laws about storage, transport, etc., if not. Hope this is helpful.

SC has very little reciprocity, if any, check the links provided. You can, of course, travel with the gun locked up and inaccessible.

Check that, they USED to have little recpirocity, it looks good for you with a NC resident permit.

Thanks guys, I am going to be ok going through to GA. Even tho NC honors all other states permits, SC will only honor NC if you are a resident of NC, so I'm good there. GA will honor a permit from NC.
Some of the states are strange as to honoring other states permits.
Thanks again, will keep that site handy for any future travels.

NC permit is good in both GA and SC...in fact, you can carry in more places in GA then you can here in NC...

The handgunlaw.us website has a hot-linked map showing what states your NC permit is good in...basically you can drive from NC all the way to the Kalifornia border on an NC CHL. Every state in the southeast honors the NC permit...and then some...

And don't worry about that non-resident stuff...NC does not issue permits to non-residents.

I hear what both of you were saying. The states need to get their stuff together. These states are still better than where I come from, Connecticut. It is better than some of the northeast states but all 50 need to get together.

Absolutely you can bring it with you. It does not matter what the start and destination are.

You just have to obey the laws of the state you are traveling to.

Yea and you DL will be a federal license soon.

Best is if your not sure lock it in the trunk with ammo and magazine in another location. Also don't volunteer information like the woman going into NJ. Make sure you read if it is also a, shall notify state.

I take it that South Carolina is a notify state statue below. Georgia is not. As shown on http://www.handgunlaw.us/ it is listed to the right and below of the state name.

§ 14-415.21. Violations of This Article Punishable As an Infraction.
(a) A person who has been issued a valid permit who is found to be carrying a concealed handgun without the permit in the person's possession or who fails to disclose to any law enforcement officer that the person holds a valid permit and is carrying a concealed handgun, as required by G.S. 14-415.11, shall be guilty of an infraction and shall be punished in accordance with G.S. 14-3.1. In lieu of paying a fine the person may surrender the permit.
(a1) A person who has been issued a valid permit who is found to be carrying a concealed handgun in violation of subdivision (c)(8) or subsection (c2) of G.S. 14-415.11 shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
(b) A person who violates the provisions of this Article other than as set forth in subsection (a) or (a1) of this section is guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor. (1995, c. 398, s. 1; 2011-268, s. 21(a); 2013-369, s. 16.)

Also South Carolina “No Gun Signs” Have the Force of Law? “YES”

Georgia “No Gun Signs” Have the Force of Law? “NO”
