Concealed Carry Situation
I act in local community theatre. The theatre is in a moderate to high crime area of the city. Michigan law says you can't carry in an entertainment facility that seats 2500 or more... Our theatre only seats 300 so I could carry if I wanted. My question is should I?
I can't exactly carry my gun under my costume on stage.
The dressing rooms are communal with everyone using a single rack to hang our clothes and other people are constantly in and out. It is standard practice that you don't bring anything of value and leave it in the dressing rooms. So even leaving the gun in a locked bag is a bad idea.
And the actors parking lot is in an alley behind the stage so leaving anything in the car is risky. As a matter of fact the reason I got my CPL comes from an incident with a man hiding behind a dumpster at 1am following a late rehearsal.
So I have a catch-22. Any suggestions?

Might they allow you to install a small gun locker-safe in the common area? You can always install one in your car for that matter, but then you would be unarmed going out, which as you point out is an issue. Perhaps the management would allow you to install a small gun safe in the management office where there is (hopefully) more restricted access.

Tough call. If you bring in a safe, eventually it will be common knowledge what goes in/out. Depends on how others feel about it. If they are OK with it, they may want you to walk them to their cars. That is a lot on you.
If an LCP is too cumbersome look into pepper spray.
Good luck and break a leg!

Tough deal, there. Other than the safe concept, which really will be a burden to you, can you hide a tiny vest pocket revolver on your person? Or a lightweight .22 or .25 Beretta?
Other than that, I'm at a loss.....

Depending on the state to which you undress for costume change, might try a nude belly band and slipping the gun into a pocket for the walk to the car.

That last is true - unless you have to wear period clothing that prohibits that a belly band such as sold by DALTECH FORCE daltechforce.com might solve your problem.

I'd suggest a very small semi-auto, like a Seecamp or even the Ruger LCP, in a pocket holster or belly band that you could keep on your person at all times, if that's possible. I suppose if you have multiple costume changes it could become challenging and might be seen by other players during a performance, causing consternation. The whole principle behind concealed carry is, after all, concealment.

The safe idea might work best if I camouflage it somehow. Maybe in a toiletries bag that I can take into the bathroom as soon as I arrive and just before I leave. What I don't want is for anyone to know I'm carrying. We are talking about theatre people who typically are not pro-gun. The play however is Spamalot the Musical and I may get to play the role of King Arthur. What self respecting Monty Python fan could resist that?!

Focus you thoughts on how to carry a sub-compact (such as a S&W Bodyguard 380) on your person. You don't mention your acting wardrobe, so we don't know why you say you "can't" do it.
I would NOT let management/other actors know I was carrying (for reasons too many to go into), so the safe idea would be a bad one.
Be carefull...Saginaw is worse that Detroit

Kramer Confidant shirt maybe? Looks like a regular undershirt except for two hidden pockets under the arm pits....

Problem working in a bad area.
In Pennsylvania, local police officers can be hired while they are off duty to provide security for local business people. Why not look into that possibility. An officer going off duty after the middle shift my jump at the opportunity to get 2 hours overtime, and make the area safer. In Pa off duty police can be hired to direct traffic, work at funeral homes, work at markets like on Friday night, work weekends at motels and hotels etc, etc. Do the other actors feel the same way that you do. The suggestion about pepper spray was an excellent one too.

Carrying a gun while on stage will make you self conscious...and there is nothing worse than a self conscious actor. Ok, there are worse things for an actor on stage...like the runs...or forgetting your lines.....but you get my point.

This is a perfect example why everyone should have a mouse gun like the Seecamp .32 or the NAA Pug .22 Mag.
Not really for every cay carry, unless you choose to use it as a BUG to your larger handgun, but there are special circumstances where you just want or need to be armed and can't wear your regular rig.

I have a small lockbox that fits in a large backpack for just such an occasion. Walk into bathroom when you arrive and put your whole rig in the lockbox. Make a stop off before you leave and rearm. Stackon makes a god box for this. Is it possible for somebody to steal your bag? Yes, but if you personalize it, such as putting a funny (not firearm related) bumper sticker on it, people will start to recognize the bag as yours and wonder why somebody is trying take your bag.

There are steel security nets that are designed to store luggage that you could put your bag into (with pistol) and locked to something secure.
If there are people in/out, it could be to your advantage because it'd look very obvious if someone started trying to cut through the net.
As long as you know that's it's just a deterrent vs. making it 'theft-proof".
One example of what I'm talking about :
Pacsafe 55 Security Web - Small - Free Shipping at REI.com

Sounds like you need to secure a part as a cop or soldier.
Problem solved.

1. Is it possible for everyone to leave together and walk to their cars in the parking lot ? (safety in numbers)
2. Do not carry any type weapon unless you are prepared to use it.
3. a small firearm in a crotch holster ?

I'll bet a dollar to a hole in a doughnut it wasn't an N frame
I do have a better possible solution though. You can often find old lockers like used in schools or even the small ones like some gyms have. Get some and donate them to the theater and of course claim one. I doubt anyone will object. Some probably would like to lock up their valuables to.
