Which S&W Revolver Do You Carry Most?
First part of the question is what percent of the time do you carry a revolver vs. a semi-auto?
Next, when you carry a revolver, which one do you carry most?
Do you have a carry rotation? What guns are in the rotation?
Do you carry IWB, OWB, Pocket, or some other way?
Here are my answers:
I moved to Florida 4 years ago and immediately got my carry permit. I was NYC for many years before that and CC is a no-no. So happy to live in a free state. I also instantly bought a few SBRs and Suppressors when I arrived.
Since it is warm 365 days a year here, I always wear shorts, T-Shirt, and flip-flops. I own my own business so I have no clothing restrictions. When I started carrying I carried one of my J Frames IWB in a Tucker Cover-Up. I didn't feel the small/mini 9mm semis available at the time were reliable enough to trust my life to. (I have since changed my tune and have a SW Shield 9mm in the rotation).
Recently I have found that with the right holster, it is not a problem to carry a heavier and larger gun. Especially with the way I have been dressing lately. My daily outfit now consists of shorts, a tighty-whitey Hanes Tank Top and a short sleeve button up shirt on top that i wear mainly unbuttoned. I can hide virtually anything under a big loose shirt like that. I bought tons of button up short sleeve shirts for this purpose.
95% of the time I carry a revolver. I recently acquired a 386 Night Guard 7 shot 357. That has become my daily carry. Some days I carry a J Frame when I want something a bit lighter. But the 386NG is really easy to carry and I hardly notice it is there!
The other 5% of the time I carry a semi.
My revolver rotation consists of:
4 J Frames: 342PD, 642 Power Port Pro Series, 638, & 442.
3 K/L Frames: 386 Night Guard, 65 LadySmith, 686 PC 2.5"
Semis: 9mm Shield, Glock 19.

I only carry revolvers. These days I've been IWB carrying between a 3 inch 686 and a 2 inch model 15.
Before I got the snub model 15 I use to carry my model 60 quite frequently, but the 15 has been perfect for me. S&W should really consider bringing back the snub K frame.

I carry a semi auto 95% of the time and it's a Sig P228 and when I carry a revolver it's a S&W Model 36 snub nose.

I've worn a milspec 1911A1 on occasion but usually it's a 4" Mod. 66. Either of them carry comfortably for me concealed or open in a shoulder rig or cross draw.

I'm new to CCW as I just got my license.
My carry guns are
1. Ruger LCR 357 -- using 38 and 38+p
2. M60 3" - kind of heavy. I figured I'd use it for hiking probably in a belt pack. Also in the car.
3. S&W 31-1 -- with buffalo bore WC and RNFP
I also have a 642 I may consider and a 242Ti (7 shot L centennial).
I can only have 3 on my permit, and the first three above are currently on the permit. I may just stick with them for a while.
The Ruger will be my primary pocket gun.

Model 19 2.5" in a Kramer. Gets hot here, but an untucked & unbuttoned shirt covers well.

90 to 95% of the time I carry what was, until today, my only revolver: my LadySmith...
Notice I said "until today"... More to come from this long time lurker!

I have been carrying handguns since 1963. I carry a 5" 1911 in either .45 ACP or 10mm and one spare magazine OWB as a primary 90% of the time I am dressed. I carry either my Sig P938 9mm or Springfield Armory XDs-45 as a pocket BUG 100% of the time I am dressed.
If I spend time in remote rural areas, I often switch the 1911 for a FNH FNX-45 Tactical or a Glock G20 SF 10mm and two spare fifteen round magazines. If I spend time in the woods with black bear, I switch the 1911 for a 4" S&W 29-2 .44 magnum if I am conceal carrying or a 8 3/8" S&W 29-2 if open carrying.
Before I retired, I was working as a government agency consultant often by myself in extremely remote wilderness areas hours away from help and no radio or cell phone coverage. When I worked in an area with potential brown bear, moose, marijuana farmer, and survivalist encounters, I carried a Glock G20 SF and two spare magazines on my right side, a 5" S&W 460 magnum and two speed loaders on my left side, and my pocket BUG and spare magazine. I am left-handed and right eye dominant so I mostly carry right-handed, but I have left-hand and right-hand holsters for my carry guns.

1. Revolver 90% of the time
2. 442 gets the most carry time
3. A 60-15 sees some carry time, as well as a 3913 and a KT P-3AT.
4. Mostly IWB, occasionally OWB, and rarely pocket (mostly around the house).

Lately I’m carrying a Bodyguard .380 for casual and an XPs.45 for going into the cities or when the situation requires more gun!
I did carry a Model 60 38 back in the early/mid 70s for a few years and it made a nice discrete carry piece. Thinking of going back to a revolver for casual carry.
I got to admit thought I am also thinking of carrying a rather nice Colt Dick Special, I bought last year instead of the 60. (Choices Choices) It does have 1 more round and is just a wee bit bigger than the 60 or 642 I have. (Some holsters will fit both the 60 and the little Colt) It also seen to feel/fit more comfortably when I shoot it and it has surprisingly good accuracy from such a small gun.

About 60% of the time I carry a S&W 640 Pro Series. The rest of the time is split fairly evenly between a Ruger 380 LCP and a Colt 1911 CCO in .45 ACP.

I don't CC a revolver much at all, but my favorite truck/have around and ready revolver is a 64-2 2" law enforcement trade in . . .

Revolver 100% in the form of my 642 as a BUG and a semi 100% in the form of my Shorty 45 MK2 as a primary, until I got my snubbie M10 which has been carried 100% when at home for the last 4 days.
The 642 is mostly carried in a pocket with a holster, the Shorty and m10 are carried IWB.
Thinking the m10 will replace the Shorty as my main belt gun since the Shorty is way more collectible.
I agree with 357-RevolverGuy, S&W needs to bring back the snubbie K's.

I find myself carrying my S&W New Model Bodyguard 38 most of the time. I know most on here dont like them but the more I carry and shoot it, the more I really like it. Its hot here during the summer and its light enough that I can drop it in my shorts pocket.
The rest of the time I carry my Shield in 9mm.

Either a 442 or Model 38 100%. I don't have a "rotation" and believe, quite firmly, that carrying a gun that has the same operating platform all the time is key in a life threatening situation. I'm not dictating what others should do. My preference, which is based on real world experience as an LEO, includes more than one instance of using deadly force in the line of duty.
If I were to switch to an auto I'd drop the revolver for carry only after several range trips to get comfortable.
UPDATE: Picked up a no-lock 340M&P from my LGS b/c of the light weight and front sight. My shooting improved so this has become my EDC.
2017 Update: Picked up a no-lock 340PD and replaced the 340M&P a month ago for EDC. Worsening hip & back problems made the switch necessary. 340M&P sold to another LEO on this Forum.

I usually carry a semi-auto, either a Kahr P380 or Kimber Solo or Kimber Super Carry Ultra+; however, when on my farm or hunting I carry a Model 696 in .44 special. It is a great package, small/light enough to carry all day and potent enough for any "varmints" I find on the farm.

I agree with Old cop. I don't think a carry "rotation" is a good idea. I carry a commander size 1911. If I carried a revolver it would be my 3" 65.

When conceal carrying, 99% of the time is a Volkmann 1911 in a Milt Sparks Axiom OWB holster:
When necessary, or when carrying the 1911 isn't appropriate, it is a Sig P938 in a pocket or belly band.
For field carry it is my Ruger Alaskan in a Simply Rugged pancake or my latest edition, a 625 PC.

A S&W 642 Talo is carried most of the time. Winter carry is usually a Glock 19. I also occasionally carry a S&W 64-2 2" barrel, CZ82 or a FEG PA63 (9mm mak).

I have a Silver Tyler T on the way from Ebay for my 638 to go with the bonded ivory altamont grip panels it currently wears. It cost me $55! It will look sweet and make the gun handle considerably better. I really like the Tyler Ts on J Frames because they allow me to get all my fingers on the grip while using a short grip. My Eagle secret service grips leave my pinky dangling.

None right now there too valuable. I did ccw my new m58 but it's not offered anymore. I ccw my cz 82 for right now. I'm going to dust off my norc 1911 tonight. It's time to pack a good one. She's a low budget race gun I built.

Please explain the "3 on my permit".

For 21 years the only hand gun I owned was/still have it is my 640 38spl and for a while carried it in a small fanny pack in front. I had cut a piece of foam in the shape of the fanny pack and cut out for the j-frame to secure it and keep it from printing. I got away from it for more than a decade until I got my NAA Wasp in January, carry it every day. About 2 months ago I got my Kangaroo Carry holster and nearly every day I carry both the Wasp in my pocket and my 640 in the KC holster, it works well for me. I will move to a 640 Pro Series for the sights and 357 option when my LGS gets one or when I get tired of waiting. It will go in the KC holster. Depending on a few variables the 640spl might be for sale then, maybe not.
Stay safe, John

I was carrying a 642 but I replaced it with a 640 Pro. It is carried IWB with a Remora holster 100% of the time.

I'm in Florida also, so a heavy carry rig is harder to do. I throw a 351c in my pocket and call it good.

Most of the time it's a Model 12 in a OWB holster. I like the light weight and six rounds.
Other times it's my Model 36 or 37 in a OWB also.
I wear my work shirt loose and untucked, so I usually carry OWB with my revolvers, and semi autos

Why would you rotate your carry gun? I'd want to carry the same thing always, the same way always, so when it comes time to use it, I don't have to think about what I'm doing or what day it is.

I don't know about others, but the reason I carry different types/rotate is to have the best tool for the situation.

642, of course.
These are my main 3 at the moment, and have been for a few months:
Sig P938 50% of the time. IWB appendix, pocket, and OWB 4:00.
Ruger LCP 25% of the time. IWB appendix and pocket.
S&W 642 25% of the time. IWB appendix and pocket.

My 442 goes with me everywhere I go in one of my own holsters. Usually on my belt but every now and then it'll ride in the right front pocket of my cargo shorts.
Only problem I have is that I wear a black leather belt, so I need to either make a matching brown belt or a matching black holster.
I'll probably make a black holster, I have a heck of a time trying to match browns.

Do you have a crystal ball? How do you know what the situation will be? I carry the same gun everyday. If a gun won't handle anything that would or could happen, I wouldn't own it let alone carry it.

Depending on what I'm doing that day, my choice will vary. For example... I carry my LCP when I kayak because it's the most comfortable and I wouldn't care too much I by some chance I went for a swim with it.
As far as "having to think" about it, I'm always aware of what gun I am carrying and in what condition, so that's a non-issue.

Situation might not have been the best word for me to use, but I don't have a crystal ball. Sometimes I have to wear a tucked in shirt and do lots of bending so it's just the 642, but most of the time I can carry a larger handgun that I can shoot better so I carry that.
Also, for me no one gun fits all situations, some get close though. All this just might be my brain trying to justify getting more guns.

Most carried?
340PD with .38 Super Silvertips (TK Custom). Pocket, holster or console of vehicle. 100 percent of the time.

And everyone was playing so nice for 40-some posts...how does that .454 feel in the ankle holster, anyway?
