Thumbs up CCW renewal

Had to go renew my CCW yesterday. Just had to show my current permit, Non drivers license, and fork out a 50 buck MO. Done in 15 minutes or less. Good for 5 years unlike the last one which was for 3. Went to town this morning to grab some beer and there was a slick looking dude open carrying some kind of plastic pistol and a couple of magazines. I'll bet we see more and more of that as the terror plots thicken daily. Whatever.
peace,
gordon

Wouldn't surprise me at all. I saw something that amazed me the other day that is almost never seen in my state. The pharmacy I do business with is an independent and, I saw one of the pharmacists step out from behind the pharmacy counter and he was open carrying. This particular pharmacy is one of three which sprang up out of one of the oldest independents that I know of and basically the same people run it now as ran it when it first started off.

Ha Ha, That should send the bad guys down the street to the chain stores at least.

These open carry guys do the rest of us a real service. It's like painting a big white bullseye on their "shoot me first" shirts, thereby drawing a terrorist's attention away from the rest of us. The next time you see an open carry guy, you should thank him for that. Just sayin'.

The open carry part is a little surprising, but as far as people in that industry carrying, it's no surprise and a very smart thing to do considering the type of people they sometimes deal with and the high risk of being robbed for drugs. I personally know of two local pharmacies that are well armed.

Mine isn't up for renewal until 2016. But I'm hoping for an easy renewal like you. I too live in MO and like the fact that it's now $50 in my county and 5 years as well. Neighboring county jacked their prices way up on new applicants. They went up $40 to the max allowed.

Mine expires in 2016 also. They are talking about Constitutional Carry here in Texas. If that passes the CCL will be obsolete in this state. I'm sure we will need it for reciprocal carry in other states. Time will tell.

Iowa passed Shall Issue a few years ago. It used to me totally up to the county Sheriff whether or not to issue permits. Some were very anti-gun and only issued them to LEOs. The new law is for a 5 year permit. Used to be every year. But the part I don't understand is you have to qualify to renew the permit. That's OK with me. But get this: You DON'T have to qualify the first time you get the permit. Seems kinda stupid to me.
I had fun when I re-qualified. Took my 5" Heavy Duty. Range officer had no idea what it was. Did pretty good too. And, yes, I DO carry it.

I like those open carry guys, while the bad guys focus on them, I can slip out the back.

At the risk of further thread drift, has there ever, in the history of man, been an incident with a citizen who was legally open carrying (not a security guard or a police officer, just a citizen) who was shot by a criminal who then proceeded to do his dastardly deed?

I consider myself knowledgeable about firearms and the carry thereof, and I am diligent about the news. I've tried multiple searches, and I got nothing. Surely, since you made that statement, you have some evidence . . .

(Disclaimer: I do not open carry, but I am not opposed to those who do, and I reserve the right to do so. You plant your garden, and you tend it.)

Your correct a local gas station owner had an open carry so every bad guy knew about that's a sign that says you better kill me first to rob me and they did. This was in the 70's.

Being on the defensive things are better kept hidden. No one knew I was packing heat at night while pumping gas. We had two m29's, a 357, a 38 special ccw guys on one shift.

I would propose that more unarmed gas station attendants have been killed than gas station attendants who open carry. Again, an anecdote from the 70's does not equate to mass killings of those wearing a gun in the open and waiting in line at Starbucks. The attendant is always a target. Armed or Unarmed.

In Oklahoma it's still another $200 for 10 years which is probably beyond my expiration date. I may be up for 5 years though, $100 here.

Many nearby states accept an Oklahoma license, but my kids all live in California, which doesn't accept anything. In any case, I don't try to get a gun in my luggage and don't ever plan to drive it again.

You asked "has there ever... ":
"has there ever, in the history of man, been an incident with a citizen who was legally open carrying (not a security guard or a police officer, just a citizen) who was shot by a criminal who then proceeded to do his dastardly deed?"

Big Bill's story suggests, at least anecdotally, that there has.

I don't agree. I would consider the armed store clerk as a security guard, because the stated and posted reason for him to be carrying is to defend the store. I should have also added "clerk or proprietor" to my parenthetical qualifier. I still maintain that an ordinary citizen in line at a store to be robbed and open carrying a firearm has never been shot first in a robbery.

I received my renewal last month. Filled it out and had it notarized today and will take it tomorrow to the Sheriff's office ($20) and they will forward it to the state police ($40). Good for five years. Should have it in a couple of months.

Shot first? Oh yeah right. I've watched dozens of surveillance videos of convenience store robberies- so far not even one where the robber took a look around for open carriers.... or uniformed police officers....

But hey, if you prefer to trick a robber into believing you're unarmed, letting him get the drop on you, and when he's well into the act of attacking you to whip out your pistol and yell, "Surprise!" it's ok by me.

The Pierce County Sheriffs office is inside the county courthouse. That's where I had to go to renew my expired CPL (woops) so I just carried openly to the door and they had to call a deputy out to store it until I was finished. I think the cost and term is the same as the OP.

Maybe not. But in at least one case in our state last year, someone was the target of an armed robbery BECAUSE he was open-carrying and the robber apparently needed another gun.

And you don't need a $50.00 permit, at least in my state. Let's see now....
No forms, no permits, no lessons, no classes, no costs, no identifying yourself to government...
That's starting to sound better all the time.

I found the story, and agree that the object of the theft was an openly carried firearm. Interestingly enough, even though the criminal had and brandished his own firearm, he didn't shoot the citizen. Not much different than wearing your Rolex or your big gold chain.

As to that, with the recent case of the foiled Dunkin Donuts robbery in Philadelphia Caught on Camera: Officers Foil Dunkin' Donuts Robbery | NBC 10 Philadelphia I would consider that quite unlikely. This guy walked past an occupied police car in the parking lot!

Here in Mass they do a background check every time you renew and it takes months. My last was submitted on 12/6 and the LTC came in on 2/9. $100 for 6 years and the paperwork is the same for renewal as it is for the initial license.
