Company Wants To Sell FAKE Guns To Those Who Wish To APPEAR To Be Armed
Perceived Carry Decoys - Perceived Carry Decoys
From Patriot Outdoor News, 13 Jan 2015. This seems to be a good way for someone to get killed.
Quote:
It appears that a new company is set to begin selling fake guns/holsters to people who want to appear to be armed but don’t want to go through the actual hassle of owning and training with a firearm.
Because we all know that you just strap a firearm to your body and all trouble will magically leave you alone forever (please note heavy sarcasm in that sentence).
|
Here is part of the sales pitch from the company’s website:
Quote:
PCD was founded in 2014 by a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served multiple combat tours to Iraq, and other places throughout the world. Based in Virginia Beach, VA, the sole purpose of these devices is to bridge the gap between hardcore everyday gun toting enthusiasts and those who are less willing to have a firearm in their home.
The mission of PCD is to change how society treats one another. Could things be more peaceful if everyone knew that you might be carrying a weapon? Perhaps. PCD seeks to explore a shift in change in the way we all treat one another.
Don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on something that may not be used? The all in one piece construction of these devices addresses all of these hurdles while still allowing for the benefits of open carry.
Personal Carry Decoys, or Personal Crime Deterrents are designed to provide a “strong” defensive posture to those who wear one and has the look of a live weapon. Remember, Perceived Carry is all about the perception that you are ready for business and let’s face it, perception is reality.
Be intimidating. Be protected.
|
Of note is the fact that company's webpage links directly to a gun control advocacy group

Just when you thought you had seen everything.
This unfortunate idea seems to cater to the "open carry" crowd. I am fine with open carry, but one BIG disadvantage is that if you are open carrying late at night when you stop for a gallon of milk at the neighborhood "stop and rob," it is customary to shoot those who are armed or who are LE first.
One perceived advantage of this product, therefore, if those using it are truly gun control advocates, is eventual elimination of the mental illness "hoplophobia" from the gene pool.
Perhaps we should encourage this foolishness.
My other reaction is, "this from a Marine combat veteran?" I seriously doubt this Marine would have wanted to roam around Iraq with fake guns and holsters just to intimidate the locals.
No, one purpose of this is to get a few people killed so that everyone will stand up and say that carry (open or not) is more of a disadvantage and even dangerous for the person carrying. Sort of like they are now trying to say that keeping a gun in the home is more dangerous and more likely to cause harm to a loved one than to a real criminal.

Has to be one of the stupidest ideas ever conceived. I'm questioning the compnay owners mental state??? The first owner injured carrying such a "decoy" will own that company.

They should sell fake police badges, too. That way, you can pull out your fake gun, flash your fake badge, and yell, "Stop! Fake police!"
As stupid as it sounds, they will probably sell like crazy. In some areas, toy guns have to have the orange tip on the muzzle. These fake guns can't even be removed from the fake holster, so I wonder about the legalities regarding the orange tip?

I went to the "web site" of this company. It looks to me like they have "taken" (whether with permission or not, I do not know) the image of SIG Sauer, Walther, and some third brand (CZ75 ?) and Fobus for their fake gun/holster combo, which according to the site, is one piece so the fake gun does not come out of the fake holster.
If using the trade dress of these brands is with the permission of these brands, then perhaps appropriate consumer reaction would correct this foolishness. 5,000 angry emails to each of the companies or a boycott might have an effect. Gun owners were willing to throw S&W under the bus for a perceived "alliance" with the Clintons and their gun and magazine legislation.
The company's slogan, "perception is reality" sort of reminds me of the mantra of the media these days. Spin anything the way you want, and everyone believes it. Except what they are about to spin is that carrying will "get you killed."
I am going out to walk the dog to get my mind off of feeling like I have to "wash" after visiting an anti-gun web site.

This is even dumber than concealed weapons badges.
This is wrong on so many levels.. I can see the anti-cop and occupy protestors using these to cause confrontations with LEO. Somebody will get killed and then sued out of their socks.

ROFLMAO....
I think it's great... now a shooter has to address : "Who's got a real gun??"
A new version of "Where's Waldo on Hogan's Alley?"
Now if we could just get them to grab their fake gun this would be very distracting to a active shooter....... gives the 7% (Pa. residents with CC) more time.......
might also have a positive impact on the gene pool?

Been thinking about this a bit. Some guy I've never seen before shows up wearing what appears to be a handgun in a holster, makes a move that leads me to believe that he is about to draw and fire, what should I do?
I think I know what might happen next.
Little boys and little girls used to play "Show me yours and I'll show you mine". I'm not a little boy anymore and I've never been a little girl. I think I will let these folks go forward with their ridiculous business plan with no participation on my part (at least I hope for that).

I'm going to assume these guns are going to be a light weight plastic to make them easier to carry and cheaper to manufacture.

About 30 or so years ago a security guard in Boston had a replica gun instead of a real one. He was walking as store manager to make a bank deposit when a bad guy held them up. The guard reached for his fake gun and the robber killed him with his real gun.
I think there is actually a law on the books now forbidding security officers from using replica guns.
In the pantheon of dumb ideas, this one rates right up there.

Good way to get shot to death.
Fake stuff's worked before, though. Anyone remember fake CB and cell phone antennas for cars? And there used to be quite a few replica guns on the market years ago. People would buy them as decorative accessories. SAAs, Thompson submachine guns, GI .45s, etc.
But this is just the wrong century for fake guns now.

I remember about 35 years ago, one of my black friends showed up one night wearing a "Holdster", a wallet carrier that looked just like a shoulder holster! I told him it was a guick way to get shot if he wore it back in Chicago where he was from! We were stationed in Germany at the time. I suspect that idea had a very short life span.

Maybe that's the intent?
I looked over the website and at first I thought it was an Onion article. The site gives me the impression that it and the product were conceived by someone who isn't familiar with guns, self-defense, or open carry.
I frequently open carry, and did so daily when I lived in downtown Tacoma WA (the most crime infested city in the PNW). I witnessed how open carry deterred a crime against me, however, I was also prepared to back it up with lead if need be. That product is too stupid to be real.

What's more interesting is that these are just Blue guns painted black. I wonder what the price will be?
I also find it interesting that they say "Be intimidating" and then "Not for self-defense."

Anyone using a gun, real or fake, to intimidate is going to get hurt. I can't believe a "real" combat Marine is selling this junk.

How ******* stupid!!!!!!!! The idiot who came up with this idea thinks criminals who will willingly attack uniformed police officers which they know are carrying REAL guns are going to be intimidated by the sight of "Casper Milquetoast" carrying a toy!!!!! What a moron!
Everyone should go to their web site! Reading it will make your stomach crawl!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt that. The idea is too obviously ridiculous. But perhaps I underestimate the credulity of the public.
It reminds of the story of the woman wearing a fake fur coat who was attacked by a man posing as an animal rights activist.
Dumb as a sack of sock lint.

New York Model
Will the NY model have the front or muzzle painted orange or yellow as required by NY state law to differentiate them from real guns?

Many real guns with yellow/orange painted muzzles/barrels have been taken from perps in New York City.
