Default Mall of America and CCW?

I thought I heard a commentator on TV mention that the Mgmt @ Mall of America was re thinking their "Gun Free Zone" policy.

I guess maybe they started to realize if the citizens were banned from carrying then it is a shooting gallery for Al Shabbab.

Would be interesting if they and other malls re- think the policy. Wait did I suggest they think?

Default Very Complex Issue

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a pessimist in this department. In many areas, particularly the blue states, blood could run in the streets and the powers-that-be will initially resort to instructing their citizenry to offer no resistance to the armed thugs.

This usually works if robbery is the motive but if killing is the motive, offering no resistance is a sure way to prematurely meet your maker.

There is yet another factor: any attempt to organize any sort of armed citizens' militia will run head-first into the police unions who do not want people doing for free what they're paid to do. This is the reason that auxiliary police officers are not armed. It's not that they can't be trusted with guns.

In Ohio Aux LEO's are armed! Most wear the same uniform with a different badge. I used to own a Columbus PD Aux sargent's badge #43. I was talking to my FIL a CPD Sargent, now retired. He told me he knew the guy, as there had only been one in the history of CPD and he died in the late 60's early 70's.

I was at the library today and notice my local branch has taken down the No Guns sticker. Very interesting! Ivan

I can't think of any good reason to shop in any mall. Click click on the internet and anything I need, and some things I don't arrive at my door.

It sounds like someone is starting to realize terrorist don't pay attention to mall's "No Gun" policies. Better late than never I guess.

The Mall of American has sophisticated security systems, and many real police officers. They don't need a bunch of undertrained, incompetent, wannabe-cops mucking things up.

If you're talking about some form of makeshift, local militia, I wouldn't actually argue with you. But I disagree from the standpoint of citizens and concealed carry. Unless the MofA is running metal detectors at every entrance, which I doubt, and which I hope to never see, and has armed guards manning the entrances, and guards at the delivery entrances, the MofA will benefit from armed citizens. If one out of every 30 shoppers is armed (okay, it's probably 1 out of 50), that's still a large number of armed Americans shopping. Some of them will commence firing if someone starts shooting at them. That's a game changer for robbers or terrorists.

I was just at our local mall with all it's sophisticated security systems and it's high tech unarmed security force! I was so impressed and felt so secure I even left my handgun in the car!
Why El kabob or El kabeeb or whatever those slugs call themselves will never have a chance!

Well:
The ONLY was they could get me to go to a place like that is at GUNPOINT! One store after another full of **** I neither want nor need.
I discovered a long time ago that if my LGS or Farm & Fleet doesn't carry something then I don't need it.

While I'm 100% in favor of legally armed folks CCW'ing think what the problems would be in a mall attack, i.e. untrained "ninjas" ,wannabe "soldiers of fortune", and "legends in their own minds" mucking up the scene spraying and praying.Well, I'll carry anyway but I suggest we all review what actions to take when the Police and other authorities arrive on the scene. It would be a shame to be wasted by the good guys after you've done your rightious duty. Mall of America would be an attractive target for two reasons:

1) Lots of unarmed, unaware targets.

2) Minneapolis has a very large Somali Muslim refugee population. In fact, two of the Somali pirates depicted in the movie Captain Phillips were played by actual Somali immigrants; both of whom "hailed" from Minneapolis. I'm sure when all these Somali refugees were allowed to emigrate to the US they did not leave their ideology in Africa...

I wonder if they were allowed to bring their full-auto AK's with them when they fled Somalia...

Really, with people like Gecko 45 protecting the shoppers of America there is nothing to fear!!

If you have never heard of him, you really need to read his wisdom.

http://lonelymachines.org/mall-ninjas/

He was a game changer in the area of mall security.

While the local mall may not be the best place...you've gotta get out sometimes.

Nothing wrong with taking a trip to get stuff. For me internet shopping is a last resort.

Aside from where prohibited by federal law (despite my disagreement), I take my guns where I want.

There is nothing wrong with dropping to the ground if you know that the gendarmes have arrived. The point is self defense until such time as the uniformed personnel take over defensive activities. Or offensive, perhaps. If you hear "drop your gun" types of commands that's a good time to comply and do that.

I think that when it comes to armed civilians your one goal is defense of self and family or whomever you are with and whomever is around you. If your shots cause offenders to move away you DO NOT chase them. That's not your job. Stay out of the way of the good guys who arrived.

I have to believe the driving MofA mgmt thought process behind possibly removing the gun free policy is to induce uncertainty in the minds of potential terrorists that they may actually encounter resistance by armed civilians as opposed to unarmed victims. Let's stay on point, I'm quite certain there's no intent to green light wild-west shootouts by civilians...

I wouldn't expect them to shoot.
I would worry about Bombs (multiples) and biological or chemical threats.

I'm thinking the Mall of America should post larger criminal protection zone "No Guns Allowed" signs at all entrances in Arabic.

If the terrorists have caused a % of the people who were going to go, not to go, they have accomplished their goal, I'm afraid.

When FL first proposed concealed carry the anti-gun groups warned of blood in the streets, and old west style shootouts over parking spaces. They would (and still do) make such dire predictions whenever pro-gun laws were/are proposed.

I didn't think I'd see the same rhetoric in a gun forum.

The latest alert is homeland security puting pressure on congress and the senate to fund them. They also will now be able to justify their presence in every mall in America. Just like they have border check points and no interest in preventing illegals from entering the country.
Their biggest concern are "right wing extremists" you know those that Kling to religion and their guns.

I haven't been to a mall in years. They all have these small stores that are grossly over priced and overly crowded. I would rather buy online, and have whatever I am looking for shipped to my house, at a reasonable price, usually with free shipping, and no tax...

Are you sure you belong on a gun forum with that statement?

So you think that because I choose to go to a mall and do so armed that I'm incompetent?
