Concealed Carry Classroom?
A former CIA agent, Jason Hanson, is selling this online concealed carry class. Has anyone heard of this guy or his Concealed Carry Classroom? Seems to me that sitting in front of my computer for several hours to take his course leaves much to be desired. Cost is unusually low, only $47. Seems too good to be true. I would appreciate your opinions.
Thanks!

When the first thing I see on the websites is:
Newly Discovered Legal “Loophole” Allows You To Carry Concealed In 28 States,
I lose interest.

I'm thinking I would avoid a setup like that. Better to attend a local course where the instructor is paying rent on a classroom.

Local instructors, who specialize in your State's paperwork usually assist his/her students in filling it out, in order to minimize setbacks and holdups in processing, do the photos and (sometimes) even does the electronic fingerprinting. To me, this can be worth any extra bucks a local class may cost. How does an online instructor assist the students in properly processing the paperwork for the various States?

My CCW class couldve been electronic other than the range time. Basically we watched a movie, read out loud a handout and then did some Q&A to meet state mandated 8 hours.
Not sure that i need assistance in applying for ccw. You just go to the sheriffs website and it tells you what you need. I sure wouldnt pay extra bucks. The best thing you get out of ccw class is knowing the laws, all which an be researched on your own. So yes id do that online cccw class if it is legit. It would be no different than what i experienced at 1/3 the price and 1/3 the time

The question you need to ask yourself :
Do I simply want a piece of paper in the simplist and cheapest manner ? Or Do I wish a learning experience to go with it ?
( I know the answer seems obvious, but hypothetically there are knowledegable and skilled people who simply need the piece of paper.)

concealed carry classroom
Take the NRA 1st steps intro to basic pistol or the NRA Basic Pistol course. Find a knowledgeable and recommended NRA Instructor in your area. Both classes far exceed the requirements for a Concealed Carry Permit training. The intro class is three hours or more depending on the student's knowledge and experience in shooting and that class is gun specific. The basic pistol class is 8 hours and both classes include classroom and range time. The lesson plans cover every aspect in detail and plenty of room for questions and answers. My students enjoy the classes and wealth of information that is covered in the classes.

No legal loophole in Colorado. Won't get signed off by CLEO here.

I would take whatever the state requires for the CC, then seek out a competent instructor and learn more about carrying, drawing, and shooting a pistol. If you can, take classes from more than one instructor.

LTCF was too easy to acquire here in PA so my wife and I both took NRA's Basic Pistol course. I am interested in ongoing education re my firearms and my curiosity was peaked when this outfit's email hit my inbox. Thanks for your thoughts.

Clay: You had a lousy instructor, sorry to say, but I guess in every occupation there are people who don't care about the quality of their job. How about confrontational tactics, alternatives to deadly force, special help to novice &/or handicapped shooters, real life examples, etc.? These personal touches from a good instructor are what make their fees worthwhile.

I'd be careful here. My parents worked for the CIA and according to them their agents were not normally armed. If that's the case what would be his/her credentials to teach a class like this?

I tend to be skeptical of "celebrity experts". They're great at self-marketing, but don't necessarily know what they are talking about.

Public carry 101
As I see it there are at least three specific aspects when it comes to a person being properly trained to carry a weapon off their own property concealed or not.
First; A clear understanding of the laws in the political jurisdiction that you want to carry the weapon.
Second; Training in the safe operation of the weapon or weapons that you wish to carry. (I'm an NRA basic pistol instructor, so excuse the commercial). If there is a better Training class, I don't know of it. Qualifying with the weapon you plan to carry, NOT the neighbor's .22 because it will be "easier."
Third; Training in the realities of carrying a concealed weapon. Compromises that need to be understood in regards to the choice of weapon, Holster and the clothing to compliment this based on your body shape, size and gender. If open carry is desired, insight into the practicalities involved.

An on line concealed carry class? Reminds me of a line I heard once. If some one offers you a diamond ring for a dime you can bet it ain't worth 10 cents.

I would bet that the course will not be recognized in the state your trying to get licensed in... It would really suck to fork out $47 bucks, and find out the course is not accepted...

I don't believe Texas would honor such a class. I'd be surprised if any state would.

When the state accepts certificates of training, how do they authenticate or validate? Does the class have to be registered in their system? How does that state know its a legit cert or not?

The state has a list of accredited courses that they will accept. They know by the instructors certification number and signature, some have a seal or stamp.

Took my CC class at a classroom at the range I normally go to. Taught by a Deputy from the local Sheriffs office. He did an excellent job going over state laws, hypothethicals, gun types, ammo, holsters, and things all of us needed to follow up on, and what website to get current info. He took questions, gave answers and asked us questions, then took us to the range and actually helped me w/my lefthand position on the revolver (I'm righthanded) as I didn't realize I was doing something wrong. It was so worth it. Maybe you could also do that online w/Skype ... but the class was an excellent opportunity for question and answer discussion and general learning. I think ours lasted about 4 hours in total and I think it was $75.

My CCW Class was $160.00 and worth every Pennie I spent.
10 Hours Classroom and two Hours Range time.
We had a small Class of fifteen People and the Instructor who is a retired Police Officer made sure You knew the Lessons before letting You go to the Range. There were three Instructors at the Range part of the Class that spent as much time as needed to be sure You could shoot and handle Your Firearm safely.
We had to bring Our Own Lunch but They provided the Sodas.
There are cheaper places but I feel I got quality training for the short amount of Time there.

It may be of more value to you if you check out Personal Defense Network. They have some decent videos covering all aspects of concealed carry, home defense, defensive shooting, practice techniques, etc.
If you get on their mailing list, you will get offers to join for 7 or 8 bucks for the first year.

Seems as though there is a push to no longer require training or a bare minimum of it to go armed. The major objection seems to be that a law requiring a "document" issued under the authority of the government for a citizen to be "permitted" to be armed while out & about is an infringement of a citizens second amendment rights.
I'll let others argue about all that. I for one would prefer competence in those who are armed & within range of me and everyone else. Do the classes/permits always indicate competence? be serious! but..they are all we have going for us.

In my state there is a push to eliminate all training requirements. Philosophically I agree with that, but since the law still requires it -- around here $75 will get you 8 hrs. classroom instruction on state law and basic self-defense knowledge and an hour of supervised range time with a NRA-qualified and state-certified-and-registered instructor, plus assistance with paperwork, fingerprinting by a state-certified fingerprint technician, and plenty of time to ask questions. Compared to $47 for an online bozo from who-knows-where who claims to be ex-CIA (and I personally know TWO of those around here), $75 is a bargain. The "secret loophole" he describes -- getting a combination of in-state and out-of-state licenses allowing carry in multiple state (and be careful, there are pitfalls there) is akin to the gun law "loophole" allowing you to make a private sale or purchase of a gun from another law-abiding citizen in your own state -- in other words, no "loophole" at all, but a perfectly legal activity in most states. And in this state, his course would be worthless for obtaining a license.
My BS detector is in overload...
