Dave, I prefer a subgun AND a revolver for when the fight becomes general.

When I was out with the guys,
jest showin up un-announced at meth labs and dope houses....
Ya know, jest the ol kickin' *** and takin' names kinda stuff.

I use a shorten'd Colt with the switch that roll'd all the way around,
with a Gemtech can (not pictured here...that was a blank firing adapter attachment).

But I did use this 'n a time er two...

So, dealing with some red-neck tweekers arm'd with mak-90s,
saw'd off rifles and shotguns and the ever popular mac 10s.

Dealin' with these here "gee-haad-est" ain't much of a deal...

I knew you favored the Car-15 with the dump switch. I remember the story of the guy in the trailer that came out PDQ after you dumped a mag through the window.

" ...and the ever popular mac 10s."

I even went that route after I saw John Wayne use one in Mc Q ...

Yes, when at the same bullet mass, it's essentially the same round (ballistically) once they've left the gun. .500 just has heavier bullets available. I can definitely appreciate the double capacity of the AR though.

I'm glad to see you made it out of said dust up. Had I been in your situation, I'm sure I'd want one of these
mounted to my car.

In all seriousness, glad you made it out and I hope you don't break the bank converting your pistol.

The ISIS threat has certainly made me think. Particularly when you look at issues like this bit from CNN; Pentagon hunts for ISIS on the Secret Internet - CNNPolitics.com
Unfortunately ISIS tends to use suicide bombers to do their dirty work, in which case a CCW will have no potential for saving lives. I still carry daily.
With regards to the open carry issue I lean towards the "out of sight out of mind" plan. Missouri has some pretty liberal gun laws. I saw a guy walk into Wally World with a full size something or other strapped on. While I thought this was pretty cool, many voters will be repelled by this activity. With the prospect of laws being ever changing we are wise to be on the down low.

Yeah, I guess I have had a different mindset since 9/11.
I have had a carry permit for over 30 years. Used to carry occasionally. Now do so pretty constantly. A few years ago there was a report on Glenn Beck's show on Fox about The Perfect Day. Seems a bunch of documents had been captured in Iraq or Afghanistan from a terrorist hideout. They were floorplans for schools in mid sized American cities. The idea was to launch an attack like the one in Beslan, only in multiple locations, all on the same day. The terrorists would take over the school. They wanted the girls to be old enough to rape, and the boys too young to fight back. I have gotten permission from the administrators at the Christian school my daughter just graduated from to carry on school grounds for just this reason.
I personally think, no matter who is President, we are going to be attacked soon. I see something that I haven't heard the talking heads mention though. I can see, on the same day at multiple locations around the country, a bunch of terrorists going into crowded areas carrying several pistols. Concerts, shopping malls, and especially churches. They stand up and shoot as many people as possible, saving the last round for themself. This would devastate this country.
Before 9/11 I never carried at church. I started to at that time, and informed my Pastor, who supported it. That was a church with an attendance of a few hundred people. We now go to what is considered the
"Super Church" in the area. Runs three services a week, all with over 1,000 people, with several campuses. If anything is gonna happen at a church in my area, it will be there. I carry my Glock 23 in a Kramer Confidant shirt holster, Leave a button on my shirt unbuttoned, hidden by my tie. Spare mag under the other arm. Backup, either another Glock or my M340PD is in my left front pants pocket.

Some people may think this is paranoid. I don't. We live in a very dangerous world, and an like this could only be stopped by a prepared armed citizen. I truly hope I never have to have an experience like that, But I'm not gonna be one of the sheeple if it does.

Not me but did my wife. She was never really comfortable with me carrying coming from a family where there weren't any guns. But like it when we were traveling, said it made her feel safer.

Then with the ISIS shootings all over the world and the number of road rage cases increasing drastically she seem to change almost over night.

Now its not - are you taking that too .. it's - You are taking that aren't you !

Now to get her shooting also !!

I can tell you on an average when I am out locally I see one or two felons a day and this time of year many more, and those are the ones I recognize. They have never given me a problem except once or twice I had words with a couple over the last 10 plus years, most are courteous and I am the same, I don't point things out and neither do they. But as I told the wife, most people haven't the slightest idea the people they share their world with. My carry options haven't changed, primarily its my Ruger SP-101 but I have been looking at something else later on, but that's something I have been considering for a while. It will be a .45 ACP of .45 Colt, those are the two calibers I want one of. I think in the case of ISIS, they are not afraid of guns or gun owners, I think the best thing to have around them is a box of crayons and a white sheet of paper.

If they come across the border from Mexico, there's a possibility they'd attack our communities in force with AKs. Keep that in mind. Our Border Patrol is not equipped to handle that. And, obummer won't mass troops on the border to discourage them.

If you're near the border, I suggest you have more than a pistol ready to defend your community.

If there's going to be a large attack in the USA, the fanatics know they'll have to do it during obummer's remaining time in office.

Yeah, I know, SNOPES says ISIS is not in Mexico. But that means SNOPES is believing what the politicians are telling them. They're fools and they're passing on their foolishness.

Show me proof that if I leave my house today I won't get into a car accident. ....you can't, but it is possible. I think that's his point that even though there is no proof ISIS isn't in Mexico, it's still possible they are, and we don't know it yet.

Another example is if I go to Texas and start walking into the Gulf of Mexico. I don't know if I'll get attacked by a shark until it actually happens.

I think that is what CTI1USNRET is trying to say.

I am concerned with lone wolf attacks in malls, shopping centers, movie theaters, sporting events, etc. (places of large social gatherings). Part of ISIL's propaganda is to influence these losers via social media. Just look at the crazy dude in Boston who was shot and killed my police and FBI agents earlier this week. He was planning to launch an attack against law enforcement and the threat was so credible they had to rush in sooner than anticipated to take the fool down.

I carry a CCW everyday in the state of Texas. I feel that I need a rifle and/or a shotgun in the truck just in case. I'm sure I'll hear of their arrival long before they reach my area in North Central Texas. As someone said earlier, not paranoid just prepared.

Two words...

"Situational Awareness"

I carry a "little" differently now, but not because of any IS threat.

What I am seeing is the demonization of cops and the very fast rising crime in big cities especially.
While I won't predict a culture war coming, I will say that I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it happens.
So with the larger groups of thugs that can turn on a dime and attack anyone for any imagined reason, as opposed to the onesies or twosies looking to rob someone, I now tend to carry pistols with higher capacity mags.
I used to like to carry a J-frame often because 5 rounds is (statistically) more than enough to egress a bad situation and keep yourself safe, but now, the smallest pistol I carry most often is a Defender with a 10-round (10+1) magazine.

The only time I ever give an IS attack any thought at all is on Sunday, in church. There's a connection to IS and churches if you know what I mean, just not yet here in the States.
And at church, I carry an XD with 17-rounds mainly because it easily hides under a sport coat.

Current events has caused me to change my carry habits. I have been carrying for over forty years. Mostly prepared for the mugger, car jacker, druggie . . . I carried a Colt Cobra mostly. If I felt the need I would carry a 1911.

During these forty years I have had to use my revolver on several occasions, without having to shoot it. IE: home invasions, car jacking, attempted mugging . . . I have rethought things, and when I go to places where there are lots of people, such as shopping I carry a Glock 19. A J frame at the Dr's Office. K frame out in the yard. Small 1911 occasionally.

My point being: I always carry, but carry more of the time with large capacity magazines.

Several others have said it already, but I'll add my voice to the chorus.

IMO the key is situational awareness, not a question of whether they're terrorists, druggies, or gang-bangers. No one gets within 20 feet of me without my knowledge and my assessment of where their hands are and what their intentions seem to be. More than once I've changed my direction or walked out of my way to make sure someone wasn't homing in on me as a sheep.

At 74 years old, a little overweight, with white hair and a limp, I'm not the sort of guy the Bad Guys would expect to be carrying a gun. I'll not open carry because I want to keep the element of surprise.

We live in a world full of crazy people. I've never fired a shot in anger or in fear, but if I need to I will.

ISIS doesn't bother me, it's the home grown crazy lone wolves, like the Charleston shooting. I carry wherever legal. Same gun (a 638 or m 10), but more often.
