LEOSA Quals-10th edition.
Headed down the road a piece to scenic Sykesville, MD, for my annual LEOSA qualification yesterday.
The Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission (MPCTC) was the customary very professional and gracious host.
Fifty (50) round 'day' and thirty (30) round 'night' courses of fire. Variously from the 3, 5, 7, 15, and 25 yard lines. 'Strong' hand, 'off' hand, 2 hand, kneeling, barricades, and other components were involved. 75% score was required to pass. A written test was based on the classroom portion of the training was also administered.
This was my tenth LEOSA training session since retirement. MPCTC has more than 800 retirees on their rolls for LEOSA. My certification/control number is in the single digits. Rather makes me proud...and feel old.
All in all a very good day though a bit difficult ride home in a veritable monsoon!
Be safe.

Congrat's on your Re-Cert!
I completed my LEOSA re-cert last month too. Our course of fire is a lot more basic than yours though! My state calls it the "Basic Covert Carry/Off-Duty Proficiency Course".
We shoot a total of 25 rounds at 3, 5, 7, 10 & 15 yards utilizing 2 hand, strong hand only & support hand only. No night shooting, classroom or written test. I don't think I'd like having to shoot my Shield 40 at the 25 yard line...probably wouldn't look too pretty!
If you're interested in seeing our course of fire here's a link to a PDF of it.

I have mine in Illinois coming up. As a former Police Firearms Instructor, an NRA pistol instructor and an IL concealed carry instructor, the IL course of fire is pretty much lame.:

I shot my M60, NY-1, this time. Ten shooters in my class; only 3 revolvers.
Be safe

Last month I helped run the range for the retired cop qualification. When I first started doing this years ago about one third shot revolvers. This last time nobody started out with a revolver. One guy switched to a 2" Model 12 when his auto repeatedly malfunctioned . I always shoot the course when the cops are done using my 2" DAO Model 64.
A friend of mine who is an old time cop says we are both dinosaurs.

I retired here in PA 16 years ago. Every year I give some thought to LEOSA qualifying, but have yet to do so. I have a concealed carry permit for PA, but never take a weapon out of state. While traveling with the camper, there have been a few times and places that I thought maybe it would be more comfortable to be carrying, especially along the interstates. Maybe this year I'll do it. Congratulations on qualifying.

I have family near Sykesville, MD! Hearing about areas that I have hung out in, always makes me smile. Congrats on your re-cert.! And even though you are retired, thanks for your service. My Uncle was a cop with the LAPD for years. Not an easy job.

I go to LEOSA next month and our course of fire is similar to the one in MD. Last year I qualified w/my Model 38 and probably will this year as well. It's a real experience to shoot a revolver when everyone else is shooting a Glock around you. I retired in '97 but never bothered w/LEOSA until we decided to take a trip to NY City. Not wanting to go unarmed I qualified and have ever since. It's fun to catch up w/other retirees and tell lies about how tough we used to be.

Got my 7th LEOSA qual coming up.
I use a revolver and a pistol for quals, as they list both types on our docs (if desired by the retiree), and I often carry both on out-of-state road trips.
The funny thing is that while I carry my retired ID and current LEOSA qual document, my reserve ID card contains the same language regarding authorization for concealed firearms as a peace officer, including listing LEOSA qualified, as my regular ID card did before my retirement. I guess you could say I'm double covered as long as I want to maintain my reserve status.

I've been qualifying via LEOSA for the last 7-8 years. My last qualification was in March and I used a Glock g27 and a 2 1/2" S&W M19. I shot a higher score with the M19 than the Glock.

Yeah, I really didn't think anything about it until my son, now a deputy, said the range officer commented to him about it. He seemed surprised I scored that well with a "wheel gun". Guess he doesn't see a lot of revolvers at the range.

Actually IL was one of the states to get a fully operational LEOSA program running and a number of other states patterned their programs after IL's. LEOSA was signed into law in July 2004 and IL's program was up and running by December. The delay was due to getting an agency with statutory authority to implement the program. The legislature was in recess when LEOSA was passed and we had to wait until they came back in session in the fall. Even prior to the legislature giving the ILETSB the authority and funding to run the statewide program several state agencies were meeting together to get the program running as soon as we knew who was going to administer it.
As far as the qualification shoot - Prior to LEOSA IL had no state standard for LEO qualification. A person could actually be a LEO for 30+ years and never have to qualify with any firearm. What IL has now is a 30 rd annual qual for all LEOs and the 'retirees' do the same qual. When the ILETSB tried setting annual standards you wouldn't believe the whining and crying from LE agencies. The agencies who were whining and moaning were the small agencies which usually were part timer cops. Initially they whined it was going to cost too much. That was countered that it was only 30 rds or less than 1 box of ammo per officer per year. What it really boiled down to was a lot of the small depts and towns were concerned some of their officers could not qualify and they would have to be let go. For some of these Podunkvilles they paid less than $10 per hour and they were always looking for officers because they couldn't get people to work. At least the ILETSB stuck with the required shooting even as lame as it is.
I know 2 COPs from 1 man depts who 'retired' because they couldn't qualify. The towns ended up closing their depts. because they couldn't get anyone who wanted the job for the little they pay.
