Default Holster for concealed carry of N-frame revolver

I have a .44 Special I use for concealed carry; during the winter months I use the interior pocket of a winter jacket. What do you recommend as a holster choice during the summer months, strapped to midriff under a baggy Oxford shirt?

My go-to for such dress is a Milt Sparks SS2, but there are many makers offering the same design. I use these for a J frame, a Colt Cobra and a Kahr CW9, and they conceal very well. Hopefully someone can tell how well they work on an N frame, but I haven't tried that size. When I tuck my 3" 29 in as if I have that holster, it seems that it would work fine.

It's a bit different, but I used to carry J,K and N-Frame revolvers in a Bianchi Belly Band. Used properly, at belt level under a bloused tucked in shirt even an N-Frame disappears. It is also very comfortable. You just rip the shirt out and draw. Re-holstering is a bit of a problem as you have to undo your britches, but it works very well.
Give it a try.

I have a Sparks VersaMax 2 for a 3" N-frame. The VM2 is wide and comfortable, at least for shorter barrels. You might make one work with a 4" barrel, but the Summer Special (SS) 2 has a single belt clip and can self-adjust for sitting or standing.

Either holster holds the butt tightly to your side for better concealment. I wear a cover garment. It might be hard to tuck and conceal a big revolver like this, but I haven't tried yet.

I recently got this holster for my newly acquired 4 inch 28-2: Avenger.

I carried it in it yesterday. You really do need a quality belt to carry this much steel on your hip but it worked great and concealed that large gun under a T-shirt.

I had Haugen Leather make me a pancake holster for a 3 inch 629 called Big Magnum Carry. I also have same holster for a 686 plus from him. I can carry my N frame with just a longer tee shirt covering it pretty well but printing isn't a problem in Michigan either. A light jacket or windbreaker works even better.
Last I knew he was backed up with orders but maybe someone else makes a similar holster as I know we have some holster makers here on the forum with good reputations.

I carry a 3" S&W Model 24 44 Special in a Mernickle PS6-DA

Mernickle Custom Holsters - Performance Series

Photo is outdated. The holster now has a leather tab to prevent the hammer from scratching your love handles so you can wear it next to your skin.

I have always like the Roy Baker Pancake Holsters.

Although you can't conceal it very well in your speedo at the Beach.

Which invites the inevitable wisecrack:

"Is that an N-frame in your Speedo or are you just happy to see me?"

Jerry sold the Haugen shop and retired. Not sure if that's the "he" you were referring to. Did he make it before he retired or did the folks he sold the shop to. How did it come out?

I made this'n to conceal carry a 2 1/2" L frame. Wouldn't take too much to adapt the pattern for an N frame.

I use these with either a Model 27 or my old belly gun.

They are all made by Dave Keith. Many of you are familiar or own versions of the one on the left.

The Carlin Ranch Pasture Poodle Shooting Assoc. met a week ago and as usual Dave showed up with some guns that caused the members to drool.

He also showed up with some new holsters.

The two on the right, I've decided to call DK lites. A little less leather but, the stamped leather is compressed and wears like barb wire.

I'm likin' the lite version of the Brill holster just fine. The belly gun holster rides a little higher than the others and works great under summer clothes.

The S&W 624 holster for the 3" 624 was an excellent design, it positioned the cylinder high above the belt. Great holster if you can find one, leather has enough give for a full lug and open bottom for longer barrels.

Whatever you decide on, just make sure you get a good sturdy belt to go with it.

Milt Sparks PMK...great holster. Here it is with my 3" 657 in .41 magnum.

I changed out the stocks recently from the VZ G10s above to Ahrends Boot Grips in Cordia...conceals a bit better.

That's the guy and didn't know he retired as it's been awhile since I've had contact with him. I had my holsters made by him a number of years ago and was happy with his work.
I remember once I ordered a holster for a 1911 and a double mag pouch and paid fro it with a credit card. I sent him an email and asked if he could also make a single mag pouch and put it on the same credit card. He told me he'd make it for me no charge since I was a good customer. Can't ask for better than that.

+1 on the 624 Lew Horton holster.
Notice the cylinder is entirely above the belt.
BTW these carry the L frame 44's just fine as well.
I also like the Mernickle.
It's very comfortable with it's flat back, but does stick out from the body a little more as a result.
I find the trick with the big L and N frames is to get them to ride as high as possible.
I consider the Mernickle more of a rural carry holster.
The belt is a Galco SB5 1.75". Great belt. I wear it every day, carrying or not.

That's Jerry! I had him make me a rattlesnake holster for my Colt Officer's .45 because I thought I was going to be a manager for ladies of easy virtue when I retired from the PD. He sent me a magazine carrier to match the holster, no charge! Good, good, guy. I never did get the management job.....

Galco, Dual Position Phoenix!

You didn't mention barrel length. Their shortest is a 4" but I find that it works fine with my 3".
