Overly large, but it shoots .45 Colt well enough.
410 for self defense is a gimmick and could get you killed. Ballistic PDWs work by penetration, which you won't get from a 410 handgun.

If we are talking about people with absolutely no gun experience, I'd start out with something like this: Door Armor Ultimate Door Security - Door Jamb Reinforcement - jamb repair - Armor Concepts The firearm would have to be something that they can quickly learn how to operate and get accurate hits with little training. Even people with training can manage to miss at close range with a shotgun, when under extreme duress. That would eliminate all handguns and very short (cut down & pistol gripped shotguns) and IMHO leave shotguns with full stocks and barrels around 18" (the simpler operation, the better).

Quote from the original article " A solid hit with an AR-15 (and the proper self-defense ammo) will stop an aggressor immediately. Sure, it may overpenetrate more than the shotgun" Unless the shotgun is loaded with birdshot - which gives inadequate penertration, the AR with a good load does not over penetrate - myths just won't die - sigh.

Very important point.
Many people envisioning a home defense scenario will often picture someone trying to kick in their door or coming through a window in the middle of the night. The stats I've come across say that often isn't the case. They may try and force their way in anytime you open the door(come home from work, take the trash, get the mail etc.). I've seen video of one incident where the intruder(s) came running in through the garage door as the homeowner drove in.
There is video footage of a lot of these incidents on YouTube. We watch them to help us best prepare to defend against them, but I imagine many criminals are also viewing them to get ideas.

The "best weapon" is the mind and unwavering commitment to survive at ANY cost. Once you have that, nearly anything will work.

My answer is pretty much the same as it was in 2015. Since I always have a J-Frame in my pocket and for the last year a 9mm on the waist, one of them would probably be it. I have Riot Gun in my closet but, I’m not always in the bedroom. At night one of the carry guns is on my nightstand with a flashlight.

Oh Lort, that just reeks of privilege.
If you’ve ever been poor enough to wonder where your next meal will come from, or had to choose between paying the rent or the electric bill you’ll understand that just packing up and moving isn’t an option for most low income folks.
Most people don’t choose to live in bad neighborhoods, they are forced to live there due to circumstances often beyond their control and the fact that it’s the only place they can afford to live.

Some folks live in apartments, duplexes, etc where they don’t have the option of fenced yards and Rottweilers. Those are luxuries for many people. In particular they are luxuries for many of the people who have not traditionally been gun owners who are suddenly recognizing that a firearm for self defense is becoming increasingly important as civility and the stability of our government and society plummets.
So…while I agree that fences, guard dogs, security cameras and alarm systems are all good layers to have, the only layer common to everyone that we can discuss here is the firearm.
