Default What do you recommend for CC pistol safe?

My wife and I are retired and our kids and grandkids live out of state, too far to drop by unannounced. So I have no need of a safe while home.

When we travel, especially when we stay overnight with the kids. I want a safe place to put the gun when we sleep etc. Something that easily fits into a suitcase, the kids can't get into and something that doesn't shout "Hey I'm a gun safe"!

I'd also like to keep it under $100.00. I cary an 9mm M&P shield when I travel.

Thanks,

H.j

I recently bought a Hornady Lock Box from Midway. It worked great while on a trip to Texas. Stored my M&P9c with no problem, plus I also used it to store some cash along with the gun.

This is a basic pistol box. Uses a key. Will fit in your suitcase. Not expensive at all.

The bullets on the front of the Hornady does imply a gun inside.

Nanovault is another (see Amazon) and it doesn't shout "gun".

Another option I'm considering is an old fashioned strong box -- like people used to use for car pink slips, old coins, marriage licenses etc.

They are even cheaper than the boxes targeted for gun owners -- and some are even fire resistant.

Take a look at this:

https://www.shotlock.com/ShotLock_Handgun.php

I got one for my shot gun. I did a bit of research and the thing I liked the most was that they sell a version with a mechanical lock. No battery or electronics to go bad. Also has a key. I haven't got one yet for my nightstand gun, but I intend to. I'm happy with the shotgun vault that I do have.

If your gun came in a blue plastic box then it has a hole for a lock on it. Just a buy a lock for it and it's good. You can keep it in your luggage to keep it out of site so it doesn't shout "gun" to them.

Most airlines that I've flown require the guns to be locked in a case when flying and I've always used the cases that came with the guns and a padlock and that's always satisified the airlines requirements.

Very cheap and it works.

My husband and I both have a Nanovault with the included cable wrapped around the car seat pedestal, for when carry is off-limits. It then gets taken indoors and used when staying in someone else's home.

You appear to have missed this portion of the OP request:

I'd also like to keep it under $100.00. I carry an 9mm M&P shield when I travel.

Your suggestion is only over by 50 percent!!

True that I did not stay under $100, but they can be had for less than the price on their web site. Also, I wanted to give them something to consider that was a little different than what they might have been thinking. Personally, I really liked the mechanical nature of the lock and that the unit was very heavy duty.

Wasn't thinking about it as a car safe like the nano, but you could run a cable through it if that was a major concern. Though, that's not really what it's made for.
