Very true and will be even more so should we have a like attack on these shores. I am certain that it will be argued that a handgun isn't going to fair well against one or more attackers with full auto AKs. However, any chance of survival is better than no chance. How about a theater, restaurant, etc. full of concealed handguns?

Guess you weren't watching CNN the other night. The talking head called for more gun control. Said that would stave off future attacks.

I am sure that the weapons used in the attacks where already way illegal in France. How hard is it to get that some people could care less about the laws and will find a way to get weapons despite the law? If gun laws actually worked this would have been impossible. Yet, some people just refuse to understand this basic fact. They have their beliefs and will simply refuse to believe that they will never have control over horrible situations. I guess some people just can't accept the fact that no matter how civilized we believe we have become that we will always be vulnerable to violence and that laws and government agencies will never be able to end that.

I would much rather have a gun and lose in such a situation that just have to stand there and take my own execution.

It was noted on Fox News today, that the European Union is now contemplating stricter gun control legislation.

Why is it that government now seems to want to advance gun control as a method to enhance population control, while placing criminals and other predators on the protected endangered species lists?

It was the gun that made them do that. If it wasn't for the gun wispering evil thoughts those wolesom young boys would never had committed such atrocities

I guess the totalitarians... er, I mean liberals in the EU have heard the old "Never let a good crisis go to waste." that our POTUS lives by. But out of curiosity I did a very cursory search on French gun laws:

France also sets limits on the number of cartridges that can be kept at home (1000 rounds per gun). The total number of firearms owned by an individual is also subject to limits (not possible to have more than 12 authorizations/permits on B1, B2 and B4 type firearms).[98] As of September, 2013, France has a capacity limit of 20 rounds for handguns;[99] one needs a permit for category one[clarification needed] semi-automatics that have a capacity greater than 3 rounds. Fully automatic firearms are illegal for civilian ownership.
I'm pretty sure nothing those radical Islamist terrorists were using were properly licensed. If the current laws didn't stop them, what new one will?

And when it happens here, which city is more likely to have such a horror inflicted on it, New York or Houston where there's a decent chance of bumping into armed citizens?

Looking at your overview from Wikipedia, that could soon be moot. The European Union is looking to negate all national laws, and impose a continent wide law, they don't want borders.

Sadly, I don't see a terrorist event happening in a major city, such as NYC or Huston. I see it more in the heartlands or adjacent to a middle class suburb. I honestly hope that I am wrong.

Sadly, it is getting to the point that our society is harvesting a bumper crop of soft targets!
