Default Concealed carry, U.T.

Without too much disclosure, I have a story to relate.
A University of Texas professor said this to me:
"If there is a student in ANY of my classes with a gun, I'm out of there. I know they have the right to own guns, but I have the right to feel safe, and I don't feel safe around guns, so I'm just not going to stay in that classroom."

He just recently moved to Texas from California, and he's around 35 yrs of age.

It occurs to me that this may be one way of getting anti gun people out of Universities....

Not a bad idea at all. The liberals will run like a nest of cockroaches facing a can of bug spray. KU and other KS universities are encountering the same thing. In 2017 their exemption runs out and they know there will be carrying on campus. The liberal professors, Board of Regents, and University Administration are all peeing themselves over this.

No, the problem is "professors" like this are teaching young, impressionable minds to believe as he does...potentially under the penalty of receiving a bad grade for disagreeing.

Two further thoughts - concealed is concealed, and he should advocate for removal of UT campus police, city police, county sheriffs...after all, it's the gun, not the person who has it (or their motives).

I took a class on Ultrasonic testing at a college in Utah last year. Our instructor told us we were free to carry openly or concealed in the class. I had brought my little XDs45 but carry on the (DoD) clock isn't allowed. I'm pretty sure he was carrying.

I did mention to him that, although not a Constitutional scholar, I didn't recall ever seeing the "right to feel safe" in our founding documents.

I'm not, nor ever have been a college student (aside from a technical college), so his fear of armed students may come from his impression that most college students were not emotionally stable, but that was, (of course since he's afraid of guns) a problem solved by the removal of the gun.
He's a product of the university of California.

If he only knew how many places he's been in where (according to his criteria) he SHOULD have felt unsafe but didn't because the guns were concealed.

Amazing how illogical those are that we are paying beaucoup bucks to teach our young.

Statistically the "professor" has no grounds. There are myriad other possibilities that are dramatically more dangerous that he probably exposes himself to on a regular basis. You could substitute many more relevant examples into his statement.

"If there is a __ (person, student, i.e. anybody) ____ in ANY __ (car, train, plane, etc. acting as the driver, engineer, pilot, etc.) _____ with a ___ (cell phone or other distraction or impaired by alcohol or drugs) ______, I'm out of there. I know they have the right to own_________, but I have the right to feel safe, and I don't feel safe around _______, so I'm just not going to stay in that _______."

This is rich!! A professor in Austin, Texas thinks he is in a room full of Texans that are unarmed. Of course, it is t.u., as liberal a university in existence in Texas. Probably does not understand Texas culture... yet. Texas Tech and TAMU professors are probably laughing out loud. :-)

Hot damn Jim, that works for me. I can only think of one other way, but I'm not willing to have to pay some hot shot litigator between 500 and 750K for a decent criminal defense.

Well, for the love of all that is good and great about this country. This professor seems like he needs some sort of psychiatric help. He should be introduced to Professor Mike Adams. This over-sensitive professor would likely feel the need to go kill himself were he present for Professor Adams' opening speech to his students:

I wish all my students could carry guns. I'd feel a whole lot safer. Back in the 1970's and 1980's many did in the South. I remember a lot of my female students showing me what they had in their purses. The weapons ranged from small pistols to fighting knives. We used to actually buy, sell, and trade guns on campus. My Triple Lock came from another professor who brought it to me in my office. I got a nice baby chief from a secretary who just brought it in one day in 1990 and asked if I wanted to buy it.

It's also quite a stupid remark because he has no way of knowing which students, if any, are carrying concealed weapons - and on campus they MUST BE CONCEALED. After the law goes into effect, of course, which is NEXT August.

He reminds me of an obnoxious professor I had in college who was trying to get the class to go to some left wing protest thing or another. My buddy piped up, loudly, "I hope it blankety snows!" Pretty funny.

Sadly, my buddy did flunk that course - as a matter of fact, the professor might have thrown him out. Can't recall.....

I wonder if prof California would change his tune if [God forbid] an armed terrorist entered his class and started shooting?

One more aspect of this tale. The good p'fessor lives and works at an institute for marine science, located in an area where undercover Homeland Security/ICE &DEA agents (as well as DPS, County and local in pc) are rather numerous. Guy's got no clue who he walks among at the supermarket, tackle shop or a boat he might happen to be riding on...
Not to mention all them regular ol' Texans who exercise their right.

I sure wish from time to time someone would remind these kind of idiots that being and feeling safe is NOT a right. Being, and feel, safe is a responsibility. We have a responsibility to keep our selves, and those around us safe. It is why we carry. Responsibilities go hand in hand with rights but are not the same. We have right to self defense and a responsibility to keep our selves, and those we are responsible, for safe.

The professor needs to be re-educated in basic philosophy so he no longer confuses a right with a responsibility.

I hope you told him that you have what he would call an Armory at your house with 2 AR15 Assault Rifles, a 1903 Springfield Bolt Action Assault Rifle, and a 54 caliber 1862 Springfield Assault Rifle. In addition you have a minimum of at least 1000 Bullets on hand at all times, because you just don't know when you might have to put your 1862 Springfield Muzzle Loading Assault Rifle on FULL AUTO to defend yourself against some Home Invader. I would expect that all that talk about Assault Rifles would get that California Alien Invasive Species running home to the motherland as soon as he changed his underwear.
