Default Concealed carry satchel suggestions?

I carry a "messenger bag" type satchel every day with my necessary folders and resources for my work, personal care items, etc.. It always has a Leatherman, a lighter, Streamlight Stylus flashlight, and other "possibles." It also houses my no-dash Model 60 and a few spare rounds of +P .38s. What my present bag doesn't have is a by-design place to put the 60. It has an inner pocket but it's loose and floppy and I don't like the way the gun is never oriented the same if you reach for it.

Anyone have any suggestions on a bag that has dedicated concealed carry options built in? Thanks in advance,
Ken

My only suggestion is don't do it. Gun on your person, always on your person . . .

Try Maxpedition. They make messenger bags with pockets designed to hold handguns.

I have a suggestion. Find a good IWB holster that will be positioned -under- the bag. Because the bag is large, it will be the first thing to draw people's attention when they see you. That includes bad guys as well as good guys. They'd be hard pressed to see any gun that you had positioned under it, even a full size semi auto/revolver. Also, if you lose the bag, you lose the gun. That, in itself, is a major downside for off-body carry for me.

You might be able to add something like this from Bianchi to your current bag. (No longer made, sadly.)

Interesting Police Holster

Dillon's Concealed Carry Tote

I have both the Tote and the small 'Plan B' Day Planner that I kept at my desk when I used to work in a office building. Transferring from the Tote to the 'Plan B' allowed me to go to different floors throughout my building or to other buildings in the complex to attend meetings and such, without feeling disarmed and others not having a clue of not being as such.

I have had a 5.11 man bag in Coyote brown since around 2007. It seemed to hold up as far as man bags go. Seems a waste to stick a J frame in though, it will easily take a full size 1911. Mine has held up through many washings etc. I used it as a manly diaper bag for years.

Don't overlook Elite Survival Systems. They make very nice luggage and also a satchel type of case that has a dedicated pocket with a built in holster.

Another vote for the Maxpedition packs. It has a pocket with an adjustable holster that will fit whatever you carry. I put the Mod.59 in there with 2 extra magazines when I am traveling. Works for me.

I have one, the Fatboy Versipack. It has an adjustable velcro band inside one of the pockets that will accomodate different size handguns...revolvers or pistols. I've carried a Glock G30S and G26 in it, as well as a Ruger Security-Six with a 2.75-inch barrel.

I don't use it often, but when I do, it's really handy. Plenty of room for other stuff...flashlight, extra mags, paperback book, snacks, whatever. Comes in handy when hanging out at a car dealer while your car's getting worked on. Also good for dog walking, like when you walk to a park or something, then want to lay back and relax while the dog plays or something.

I have various ways of carrying a small handgun in a "bag" or "briefcase". As a rule, however, I say don't do it. But if a Maxpedition fits your lifestyle and method of dressing it will work great.

My brother has an aluminum briefcase that he's put "pick apart" foam inside to hold his folded 9mm KelTec SUB2000 carbine, 4 - 17 round Glock magazines, 2 - 33 round magazines, and a 50 round drum. That's probably a little more than you want to carry.

Can you just modify your current bag by adding a holster? Maybe just put a pocket holster in the pocket you currently put the gun in.

Default Body Armor Holster

Get one of these:

Uncle Mike's - The Leader in Shooting Accessories

And some velcro tape. Mount the holster in the pocket to stabilize your weapon. $10 to $20....problem solved.

Another good substitute is a medical pouch, I have used occasionally, and I have also used a pouch for a tablet.

I carry in a Bianchi fanny pack with secret holster. It has two waterproof zippered compartments, besides the holster. It is made of black high quality heavy nylon. Unfortunately Bianchi has discontinued these, I take very good care of mine. You may still be able to find one online, they made several sizes of them. I carry lightweight handcuffs, badge, flashlight, and two loaded magazines in mine, along with my CS 45.

Confessions of a retired holster maker:

Having spent 43 years making leather holsters, I have also made use of a fanny pack pretty regularly. It is an old timer with no maker's name, but it is a good design. Heavy padded nylon fabric with three zippered pockets for my Leatherman, flashlight, checkbook, and a couple of spare magazines. Velcro-closed inner pouch (accessible from either end) will carry handguns up to the size of a Colt Government Model or 4" Model 66.

I can wear it around the waist, as designed, or loop the strap over one shoulder, and either method draws absolutely no attention on the street or in stores. Can be worn while driving, walking, riding a motorcycle, or just about any other activity. Flop it down on the counter as I write a check for a purchase, no one thinks a thing about it. I've carried it into banks while doing business without anyone taking notice. Tucked under the driver's seat and I can have a spare handgun and ammunition reasonably available while carrying my usual holster on my belt.

As with a messenger bag, the fanny pack must be secured when not on the body. I am fairly comfortable with it concealed inside a locked car, but I do not leave it there overnight or in some locations. Inside the trunk under the spare tire works as well. A solid locking desk or file cabinet in the office should be adequate for many users.

Comfortable, discreet, reasonably secure. A good fanny pack can fill many needs.

Don't know if I could do the messenger bag or fanny pack thing, but....
Really looking into getting one of these to try out.
