Pleased, but clarifaction needed.
The best thing about legal open carry is to be able to carry a handgun just about any way you want as long as it includes a holster, not in hand. No worry about things like accidental exposure, printing and other problems I've heard about. I didn't mean to give the impression of tying a red flag on it, but that any degree of open is acceptable in public, and anyone calling in "man with a gun" (swatting) is making a false report, which is a crime. I have no use for commando's and think such makes us all look bad. I am just able to be comfortable with carrying(a handgun) with any different degree of concealment or lack thereof as I see fit and comfortable with at the time and place. I like it, and hope everyone can eventually have the choice. Be safe.

A person carries because of the possibility of encounters with bad people. Concealed carry gives the bad people one less reason to target the carrier.

One could also say, Concealed carry give the bad people one more reason to target the carrier, because concealed carry make you look exactly like their preferred victim- unarmed.

I carry open and/or concealed here in Oregon. I carry concealed in the ultra-liberal urban areas where liberals would faint dead away or call 9-1-1 for open carrying. I open carry in rural areas where it does not raise an eyebrow. Even when I am open carrying, I still have a concealed pocket BUG.

And I am fortunate enough to be in a gun-friendly town that issues permits. Somehow, I don't think that that is what the Founding Fathers meant by the Second Amendment, nor do I think that it is in accord with our God-given right to self-defense.

Middle Georgia is literally full up with people you wouldn't want to be around. I don't know where you live, but it's got to be better than here. White people, black people, pick-a-color people. . .we've got it all right here. That's why I carry all the time; and, fortunately, it's legal to carry about everywhere here.

What is going to happened when open carry passes is the bussines will just put big circle with a slash through it on the door telling you that no weapons are allowed on the property.
The other thread about being caught in a bank when the Bad Guys are robbing it won't happened because your gun will be in the car.
Somebody is going to post "I won't spend my money at a place that won't honor my 2nd amendment rights"
You suppose those bussines in the big city care. (Disney World)
You can't carry into a gun show but people still pay to go in.
After a while people will get tired of open carry and you won't see any pistoleros and all this discussion on "OC" will be gone.

Open carry has been legal in Colorado since they called Denver "Cherry Creek" (mid 1850s) I don't see a lot of those signs

That sounds vaguely familiar....hmmmm......
PREDICTED: If citizens are allowed to carry guns, people will get in old-west style gunfights over parking spaces.
ACTUAL: Citizens with CCWs are by far less trouble for law enforcement than any other group.
PREDICTED: Citizens that are are allowed to carry guns in public will cause the escalation of disagreements and lead to increased incidents of violence with deadly weapons.
ACTUAL: Nope, didn't happen.
However, even if those businesses DO put up signs; are you going to fret and wring your hands or are you going to do something about it? Some Walmart managers tried the sign thing, and we got on the phone to Regional and they set it right.

Concealed and all the time. At the moment, concealed carry, with a permit, is the only legal way to carry in Florida. Open carry is scheduled for the up coming Senate and House Sessions in January. If passed, it will only apply to CCL holders.
Why, 20 years and counting as a CO, even a more respected one, I've made some enemies of some unscrupulous people. I've run into quite a few former clientele on the street, luckily, they've been the better behaved ones. (knocks on wood!)
Of course, earlier this year, two blocks over was a home invasion and murder. That was a drug dealer who screwed over one of his buyers, who hire some teens to kill the guy. It's not uncommon for these people to get the wrong house. It happens more than you might think!
Of course, 20 years as in the Army (and Reserve) Military Police, LEO Academy and Corrections Academy, plus owning a variety over the years, I have a fair bit of experience with firearms.

concealed always .. pants go on and then the weapon goes on next .. within arms reach 24/7 ..
Carry concealed always . I have breathing ailments, can't run away, and too old to fight like others have said .. don't want to be the first one bad guy shoots because he can see my weapon ..
takes 15 minutes for County Leo's to respond here in the country .. takes me 3.5 seconds for 4 rounds in a 2 inch group at 30 feet with my 40c ..

I'm a retired LE Officer, if that counts for anything...
I carry concealed when in public.
Why? Because when seconds count, law enforcement response is minutes away.
Be safe. Watch your six. Exercise your 2 Amendment Rights.

In Illinois conceal carry only no open carry and the Illinois law reads -
"Concealed firearm" means a loaded or unloaded handgun
carried on or about a person completely or mostly concealed
from view of the public or on or about a person within a
vehicle."
so if your weapon is accidently shown or your printing you can't be sited for an offense as in some states where it has to be completely concealed at all times ..

Concealed. Two biggest reasons are because my normal dress is a t-shirt tucked in with an collared, buttoned shirt over top, untucked. Open carry would be awkward dressed like that. I also don't want the attention.
I will say here in south central KY, I've seen several OCers at the local Wal-Mart and nobody has ever called the cop or harassed them. I have a friend who open carries regularly because he can't afford to get his CCDW yet. I've gone out with him, nobody said a word to him or us.
I do open carry at home, because I usually take my over shirt off. I have run into town and forgot to grab my overshirt. I usually just untuck my t-shirt when I'm getting out of my Jeep.

Keep it concealed! You always have more options that way. Why would you wish to advertise that you are carrying? Think about it. If you are open carrying but decide not to engage, you may not have that choice or be excoriated for it!

Here in Nevada, I choose to OC, I CC when I go somewhere where it is more proper for CC. But I have never had any more attention than usual and feel safe in my situation with OC. I have a high profile job and meet dozens of new people from around the globe every week, It just is not an issue with them. If they ask, I educate if needed, but it is not too noticeable and it just feels right to me. But Both carry options are very viable.
Arizona is the best place, No Need for a permit either way!

I prefer concealed carry.
However, if the holster I'm working on turns out the way I think it will, I'll be very tempted to open carry just to show it off.

Why do I carry?
I carry a gun because leaving it at home is useless.

Concealed for me. Unless in uniform or at a LE training in polo shirt and slacks. Badge is next to gun in this instance.
I always carry off duty to protect me and my family. I have served papers on, interviewed, investigated, and correctionally supervised too many of "society's finest" to do otherwise. Usually a Glock 22 or issued 23 along with a 442 as a BUG..

OWB always for comfort. Sometimes J in the pocket for quick errands.
I mostly carry concealed (especially in winter with the large jacket and all).
I'll open carry just because it's easier a lot of the time i.e. shirt tucked in. I'll open carry when I'm out and about; doing errands, hunting, in rural counties, etc.
About the only time I choose to conceal is when there are large crowds (where I am in close proximity to others) and/or I'm not trying to draw attention to myself (ex. in the inner-city or at the mall). The reason being I don't trust others. For two reasons:
1. In an area of higher crime; I don't want to make myself a target for violence or theft. Not that I believe people actively snatch handguns off hips, but there is a higher chance of this happening in a higher-crime area. I will OC in Richmond if using not open-top leather i.e. thumbreak or similar. And, yes, I'll say it, with *****ty race relations in this country, especially involving white-on-black self defense shootings, I don't want that extra attention.
2. The vast non-carrying majority of folks are misinformed about firearms and carry laws. It wouldn't surprise me for 10 cop cars and the SWAT team to show up at the mall because "a man has a gun." I'd rather not be guilty until proven innocent for exercising my right to carry. And yes, some cops are just as misinformed as the citizens they're "protecting."

Concealed. I do not advertise. Second, I wear clothing that is not threatening or offensive. I try to look respectable. Third, I treat everyone with respect and wear a smile and have a sense of humor. Fourth, I do not look for trouble or go places that trouble might be expected. Fifth, I think surprise is on my side.

I agree with Don73. I grew up in Jersey and the good guys carried concealed. Now I carry pursuant to HR 218 and a PA permit and even when hiking and fishing, I conceal my handgun. Element of surprise is a tactical advantage. I carry to exercise my rights; frequently open carry seems like a political statement better made with a donation to the NRA and the ballot box.

I open carry, I conceal carry, sometime at the same time....
I've walk this earth as a free man all my life and I intend to go out that way.
Until then, I'll cover the ground I'm standing on as best I can.

In town I prefer to cover it up so I can be a nasty surprise for criminals.
Out in the rural area I live in I'm a bit more relaxed about it and when I walk over to my pal's place to see what he's up to I often open carry,if I tag along to his folk's place over in the middle of nowhere or to other people he knows I just pull my shirt over it-I don't care that you can tell I have something under the shirt, and this small rural community nether do the people.

I'm in Florida, so open carry isn't an option... Yet. But I've had a concealed carry permit for over 20 years. So, assuming the question is "How do you carry," concealed or open? The answer is concealed. Why is because it's the law.
Florida is seriously considering legislation of open carry, but I'm very unlikely to do it. I'm with those who don't want to raise the eyebrows of folks that disapprove or be targeted for whatever reason. However, I hope it passes to protect me in the case of a "wardrobe malfunction." And, because I often carry OWB under an untucked shirt, I can see scenarios where pulling the shirt tail up and behind the grip (going "open") might have the effect of making some miscreant move along to some other victim. But I'd rather make that call on the spot.

I've lived in Alaska since 1972. I've carried, except where prohibited by law, almost all that time. Reason: I don't want to be a victim. Not of a person or an animal. Moose eat my trees we have bears in town. You literally need to look both ways before you go out the door. For a town of 300k we have the crime rate of a major city. I've never needed it and I hope I never do but I will protect myself and mine. I carry concealed. No use advertising.

I carry concealed wherever/whenever legal. I carry the largest weapon I can conceal depending on the circumstances.
I have a family to defend, a family that needs me to return to them when we're apart.
Evil is all around us, preying on the weak and unaware.
I have earned the ability to help protect myself and those close to me through years of training and expense. 1000's of shots at cans, paper and steel...Good advice from trained pros...
I pray to never meet evil face to face....but want a fighting chance if it shows.....
