Completed Concealed Carry Class
8 hrs of classroom (about 50 in the class, several women)...a written test... and then at the indoor range 6 rounds fired, unsupported, rt and left hand each at a 3 yd target. Then 12 rounds, supported with the hand of your choice, at a target 6 yds away and then the same at 12 yds. Used a 9mm Glock. It was a long day.
Now off to the police station with the certificate and a check for $95. Unfortunately, here in Nevada, it will take up to 120 days to get the "official" permit.Once issued, it's good for 5 yrs.

Thanks.
Either a S&W 638 or a full size Glock 40 cal....depending on the clothing worn and the length of time in concealment.

Was the Glock supplied by the class, or was it yours?

If the First amendment carried the same requirements:
8 hrs of classroom and a written test... and then at the indoor typing range 6 pages written, standard typewriter, rt and left hand each on a target subject. Then 12 pages, supported by a word processor of your choice, on a target subject. Used a Smith Corona and an iMAC. It was a long day.
Now off to the police station with the certificate and a check for $95. Unfortunately, here in Nevada, it will take up to 120 days to get the "official" permit.Once issued, it's good for 5 yrs.

Welcome to the fold...... now the work starts. A box full of useless gun leather..... the desire to purchase more... and more firearms and all the goodies to go with it.
The 638 smith will lead to an addiction close to cocain... stick with the glock 23 and you will not suffer as much as the rest of us.
Good luck partner

Next see if you can pick up a copy of Mass Ayoob's "Gravest Concern" (I may have the title wrong but it's close). It lays out all the things new ccw people may not have considered, at lot of which is common knowledge to most LEOs. Congratulations and stay safe.

Ayoob's book is "In the Gravest Extreme." I also recommend it highly. Google it. I think you can download a pdf version for free.

Congrats Backlighting!
All of Ayoob's work is worth it - books, articles, classes, etc.! Training, and soaking up knowledge from some of the best in the business is vital to CCWing, IMHO.

Congrats on completing the class! Hope you get your permit soon and find a carry combo you like!
I don't know your skill level, but I felt a lot better carrying after taking a class or two on how to draw, reloads and such. You might look into some additional classes.

Congrats! Whatever you decide to carry, just make sure it's super easy and comfortable or you'll wind up being one of those on-off guys which defeats the purpose. I personally recommend pocket carry. Been carrying a .380 EVERY DAY since I got my CHL. Just my $.02...

Uh....what? I can carry a 1076 comfortably and easily and I'm 5'8" tall. Today I'm comfortable with a P320 in .357 in a Tucker holster with two mags on the off-side.
I wouldn't be comfortable with a .380 in any circumstance.
Strange advice, but I'm glad we all have options.

Couple of other things I wanted to mention about the class and the police dept. I went to with the paperwork.
During the class the a question came up about ammo storage. The instructor, an armorer and former police officer
stated for long term you might want to consider one of those food saver machines. Inexpensive, keeps the air/oxygen out and is waterproof. If you have a stash on a boat that would be a smart way to go, no?
I asked the officer doing my fingerprinting how busy they were. Now here in Las Vegas (population approx 2 million) she said the cc applications have been substantially been increasing for the last several yrs., presently doing about 100 to 200 per day (that's the total for the 2 locations in the city).
The % of people who are qualified to carry here is indeed huge.
The Boy Scouts got it right..."Be Prepared"

Congratulations! Make sure to consider carry insurance in the event that you actually have to use your sidearm!

Congratulations! As Obi-Wan said, "You've just taken your first step into a larger world."
The only thing which truly bothered me about getting my CC permit, was what I felt
was the (IMHO) unfair charges from the state.
Criminals get a "booking" for free, after they have committed a crime. They are awarded this
service at no charge, as if what they have done is honorable, meritorious, or deserving of reward.
We, OTOH, have to pay for the same process, as though we are societal pariahs, after demonstrating
a pristine police record, with zero history of drug, alcohol, or domestic
abuse. We should be getting awarded this permit for free, not charged.
So why do we get stuck, while criminals get a free ride on our dime?

Here's some info I came across on the Guns & Ammo site regarding liability insurance for those who conceal carry. Definitely worth exploring:

Congratulations. You can't beat a Glock for a carry gun. I used one for years but have switched to a Model 10 S&W .38 special lately. I gave the Glock to my son and now he carries it every day.

A lot of people will say to always carry the same weapon in the same manner, but I will carry my 637 in a pancake holster or in a coat pocket or I'll carry my Colt pocket lite in an IWB nylon holster or coat pocket. I do know that a weapon carried in a pocket or purse (ladies) will require more maintenance than normal. A weapon carried in a purse should be carried in a separate pocket.

I CC the same way I OC, because I have to deal with
a lot of snakes on the property. My first load is always
ratshot, because more likely I will have to dispatch a
pit viper. In the unlikely and unfortunate event I have
to defend myself from an attacker, OW, I bet that's going
to sting! Sorry in advance...
But I carry different weapons, as suits the mood. I guess it depends on
how familiar you are with your own hardware. I can tell by the grips exactly
what I am drawing.
