What does it matter
What does it matter about caliber or model as long as you carry.
My preference depends on whether I need 6 or 13.
Movies , malls and such, Berretta Cheetah, (380) Hornady critical defense.
Others, Rossi 461 (357) or S&W model 10 (44 spl)

Would like to have seen a break down on the 38/357 .. but the 9mm and 38 are usually the most popular in polls like this ..
Really thought the 40 S&W would have had higher numbers .. but guess not many shoot it as well as the 9mm or those people with 9's haven't shot a 40 much ..

Only when you don't include .45ACP in the poll.

I have ear muffs and plugs in my vehicles and in my house. That said, a pistol in .45 ACP or 10mm auto come closest to the top of my carry list. A second gun is usually a S&W 442 or Glock 30, with a S&W 627 for "field carry" or Glock 41, for ammo exchangeability. Speed strips with .38 Spl for".36 caliber" sets. Occasionally Glock 35 and Kahr 40S&W together. A lot less muzzle flash and blast with pistols than revolvers. Hunting usually involves a 5.5 inch or longer .45 Colt, or larger caliber. I still carry a self-defense handgun even if muzzle loader or archery hunting.

Since the wouldbe participants in the "head choppers' ball" got active on this side of the pond, I've started carrying a 3.5" M1911 (Citadel 3.5 CS).
I'm more comfortable these days with fifteen rounds (a seven rounder in the gun and an eight round reload) of .45acp than ten rounds of .38 Special from my Smith 36-"no-dash".

I carry either this M19, made in 1970, or the M59, made in 1989. Mostly depends on where I'm going and how I'm dressed.

Most of the time I am carrying my 1911 in 10mm. If not that, then it's my SigPro 2022 in .357 Sig.

I didn't expect to, but I've fallen back in love w/ 3rd-gen/"traditional" S&W autos. My current go-to is a 3914 w/ Hogue's aftermarket rubber grips.

S&W MDL 296
Took awhile getting use to its size after carrying a j-frame for years. Now it is just part of all the other furniture I carry. ASIDE: I remember a post some time ago where a number of members thought it ugly. I thought the inscription "44 Special" erased any vision of ugly

Mr Mike I wish I'd read your comments in time to prevent my suffering the same ear damage you describe. Yes, it is life changing!!! My waterloo was a 4" Mdl 29 loaded to the hilt & no ear protection. I now carry a Mdl 296 & hope if I ever have to use it, its AFTER I get my ear plugs in.

Is this new math?
On Tuesday at 1:55 EST, the total percentage is 145%. Even if I subtract the 23% "Other" it still exceeds 100%. ????

Look again, it's a multiple choice poll. Since every person could select more than one, it's easy to see that it would exceed the total number of participants.

To the big city, a 915 with an extra mag. Barnstorming around my little town a 2 in mdl 10 with one speedloader.
In those antigun places I try to avoid with a passion a airweight chiefs special and a speedstrip.

Depending on how I am dressed there are 3 in the normal rotation:
1. Glock 21 .45
2. S&W 66 3" .357
3. S&W 638 .38
I once had a Taurus .45, but it had a few problems. Once or twice per 10-round mag I could squeeze the trigger back all the way, as far as it would go, and nothing would happen. Then, when I released the trigger, BANG. Also, the magazine would eject on its on every few rounds. After three trips to Taurus they finally fixed it, but I decided it was not going to be a keeper. It had good ergonomics. Sure felt good in my hand. I'll stick with the three I have listed above.

What I carry depends on my evaluation of a potential threat situation, and frankly I will try to avoid being in one...however I now carry .38 Special daily in a 642-2...

My Shield 9 in a stealthgear Onyx is my EDC
but during the winter I like to carry my FS M&P .40
on occasion in a N82 pro, it's easy enough to dress around in the Fall /Winter, I'm waiting on a JM Custom Kydex OWB V2 for my .40 as well.
that should b a little more comfy than carrying a duty gun IWB (even thought the N82 is great, it's a big gun)

My New <to me> Daily Carry Set-up:
I'm packin' my recently acquired s/s S&W Model 632-1, with Crimson Trace Green Laser Grips, which I carry in a Sticky Pocket Holster. Also, just lucky enough to score 100 rounds of .327 Federal Premium 85 gr. Hydra-Shoks, ...
Didn't come easy or cheap, but well worth the time/effort of a year long search !!! ...

For me, like I'm guessing many of you, it's changed over the years and now depends mostly on the weather and how I'm dressed. Lately it's been a Colt Defender, .45acp, with 2 spare Wilson 7 round mags.
When it's colder usually a full size M&P 9 with 2 spare full capacity mags. The 3" 64 I just picked up will rotate in once the Lobo holster arrives for it.
All ride exactly in the same location and in similar holsters, for me it's a muscle memory thing.
