Default What do people think about the new actions?

I have a Walther single-action semi but the hammer is concealed until you pull the trigger. (PPX) The trigger pull is very, very light. I do not carry it as it is very large. I bought it for informal steel shooting.

Now I read that the new Ruger American is striker fired but the action 100% cocks the striker, so the trigger only releases the sear, it does not finish cocking the striker. This shortens the pull and lightens it.

In both cases we basically have a single action that can be carried with a very light trigger pull and no visual of a cocked hammer.

I'm not criticizing these designs, just curious what others think. I'm happy with my M&P but interested in where the industry may be going.

My guns are always loaded so it's always cocked. If it's not on me then I visually check anyway. BTW my Glocks also have no visual cocked indicators

Isn't the PPX double action hammer fired that is semi cocked (i.e. not a true DAO)?

As far as where the market is going, it's clear that it is going to striker fired SAO or striker fired that are 99% cocked like the M&P, SIG P320, Glock etc.
SIG released the P250 hammer fired semi-auto and it morphed into the P320. The FNX has evolved into the FNS. HK P30 is the older cousin of the VP9, etc.
The S&W SW9VE is striker fired, but the trigger is like a DAO. Now the flagship line is the M&P with it's lighter trigger.
I think that people prefer lighter triggers and I think that companies have made more striker fired guns because they are simpler and cheaper to manufacter and because people general shoot more accurately with the ligther trigger. As far as safety, they are as safe as any other handgun as long as the user is sufficiently trained.

Walther PPX does not have a what most of use would call a SA trigger or LITE trigger. Its a hammer fired pistol with decent trigger that feels more like a 2 stage trigger . You have a take up that's lite to a wall , apply more pressure to fire !! Not that different from a well tuned stock glock trigger pull . It just has a hammer to pull and release instead of finishing a striker pull before release .

I have carry a hammer fired pistol since I retied my snub nose 11 years ago . Mine are striker fired but not do any special . Its more about how the trigger pull feels as I am use to a true double action pull , kahr and sig p320 are my edc's . My wife carries a well tuned up m&p9c and has a core and a sig p250 . I could care less were the industry is going but its been striker fired more than any other type for some years now .

Our defense handgun triggers run from 4.5lb to 6.5lb . Fun guns go down to 2lbs .

Pick a design and train with it .

When you go to a range if you get a chance to shoot other makes and model swapping handguns take advantage of that chance .
