What does your state call your carry "permit"?
I could do a poll but I won't. Too many people can submit the same answer. There are not that many choices.
CCW - Concealed carry weapon - as I understand that term, in Florida, anyway, it means once you have that license you can carry ANY weapon concealed, gun, club, knife, etc. True or no?
CHL - concealed handgun license
LTC - this is the new name in Texas for a handgun carry license so that both open carry and concealed carry are included. It was CHL before that.
CHP - Concealed handgun permit. It's an interesting distinction, in my mind, between a permit and a license, technically, but the result is essentially the same.
There are at least three or four more different names. I suppose I could look it up but it's more fun this way.

In Pennsylvania it's called a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms.
The License is applied for and received at the local County Sheriff's office and is a same day in and out application to receive, no muss, no fuss unless you have been found to be ineligible for what ever reason!

In Maine it's called the US Constitution.
There's also something called a Concealed Handgun Permit for those unfortunate folks who wish to travel in non-2A-compliant states.

In Taxachusetts, it's called an LTC ("License to Carry"). There are two types right now... LTC-A (high capacity) and LTC-B (non-high capacity). That difference is going away in the future. There will only be one license, it will allow high capacity, and it will be called an LTC.
Note that all high capacity magazines must still be pre-bans.

Really.
As a matter of fact, a friend of mine just renewed his "CHL" and his new license says "License To Carry" on there, plain as day. Mine still says "Concealed Handgun License". It will be several years before I get an LTC.
Thanks for those replies - all very interesting - and don't we all wish it was as easy as in one state that understands the Constitution.

Got a Class A due to the regulation of owning an 1100 shotgun that is capable of being converted to handle more rounds than standard. Pretty sure that was in the nonsense a while back.

None of the above. State doesn't offer one, doesn't require one - never did.
The Vermont Constitution and U.S. Constitution cover it all, and have for over two hundred years!

In New Hampshire it's called a Pistol/Revolver License - no mention of concealed carry, but that's what it's for because no license is needed for open carry.

Here in Arizona where we have constitutional carry the state calls their carry permit REVENUE, I like to refer to it as a waste of $65 every 5 years. Don't have one don't need one.

In Shasta County, California, the Sheriff's Office refers to it as CCW (Carry Concealed Weapons) permit. The form itself (from the Bureau of Firearms which is within the state Department of Justice) says "License to Carry Concealed Pistol, Revolver, or Other Firearm Within the State of California".

I guess it must depend on where you live in PA. For us the license is applied for in one day at the local courthouse, but is then sent to the local sheriff for approval. Takes anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on how busy they are.

Arizona: Concealed Weapons Permit
Nevada: Concealed Firearms Permit
I got the Nevada permit because there was a time when NV refused to recognize the AZ permit and I travel to Laughlin and Las Vegas often. Now NV has reciprocity with AZ once again, but it was worth going through the NV class because there are many differences between the two States. Even though a permit is now not required in AZ to carry, having a permit makes buying guns much easier, and travel throughout most of the middle States is now legal carrying a weapon. The NV permit has a photo, the AZ permit does not. Carrying a knife concealed with a blade longer than 3 inches is illegal in NV and can result in a felony charge.

Iowa Permit to Carry Weapons
This is the moniker that we have since we became a "Shall Issue" state in 2010 after the NRA sent an operative in to get the law passed. Whoever the NRA guy was he was brilliant. He promised the buffoon we had for governor an A rating if he signed the carry bill. The governor signed it and still lost the election!!

It's not needed in the state of Wyoming, but I have one for when I am outside Wyoming.
