My daughter is a Detective for Arlington PD, sometimes when she works as security for special events... Rangers or Cowboys games she does so as bicycle patrol, yup the uniforms are pretty much a joke. That said I bet she has better legs on her than the young heavy badge fellar.

I wonder what could possibly be left to say about open carry in Texas. Or anywhere else.
I suppose I'll find out.

Howdy Watchdog,
I know I've told this one before, so please bear with me,
as I enjoy tellin' it....
I was head'd home from the office, it was a purty hot day so I
shed my jacket and was motoring toward the house.
The cell phone buzz'd....wife wanted a gallon of milk for home made ice cream.
Seemed like a good cause, so I wheel into the quick-sack.
Waiting in line to pay and this kid's looking me over purty good...
I mean like the hairy eyeball kinda looking.
I think he checking out my Colt 45, but he kept looking up at me.
I nod my head at him, he jest stares up at me.
Maybe he's admiring my hat.
I final can't take this much longer, I say, "How ya doing there young man?"
The kid looks me dead in the eye and says, "Mister, you sure got a lot of hair in yur ears!"
I jest wish he'd said something nice about the lit'l Colt.
.

Ear Hairs
Aloha,
The Wife can't stand my ear or eye brow hairs.
So, every so often she grooms mine.
Plucking the ears don't bother me as much as the eyebrows.

In the last 6 months I've attended 6 hours of LEO training in texas. All supportive of the new law and only dismissive to the gawker who melt 911 upon seeing pea shooters. Only thing not covered is what I'm susposed to yell before shooting ( I carry under LEOSA). Can't yell POLICE!. I've settled on SUPRISE! !!

You should be polite and yell, "PUH-LEAS! Get on the ground!"

I've been a CC'er for the past 6 or 7 years in TX. The actual big difference for ME is that I feel more comfortable carrying a larger firearm in a different place. I carried (and still DO most times) a S&W 642 in my front pocket. No chance of printing, no worries about being "made".
Now, I don't have to worry about showing, and sometimes carry a CZ-83 in an IWB holster. I still conceal, but I feel like I have a lot more options.

It's state law and federal law that you can burn a flag at a military funeral and call the dead soldier a baby killer, but I doubt anybody here would support that persons right to do it.
And I remember when Arizona passed the "show me your papers law", that allowed an officer to ask for ID from anybody be reasonably believed to be illegal. People crammed into a van near the birder, for instance. And people here loved that idea.
Just funny how selective people are at standing for others rights.

As a follow up to my posts in this thread, I would like to clarify my stance on CC vs OC and why I do both. While most of the time I try to CC (for many of the same reasons others on this thread have stated), sometimes I do OC. I do not OC "just because I can", or to "show off", or to let the bad guys know "I'm armed so don't mess with me". The main reason I OC (the times that I do) is for comfort. I'll admit I'm a big guy with a spare tire around my middle. Sometimes, depending on what I'm wearing, CC (IWB or pocket) is just too uncomfortable. It is simply easier for me to OC (OWB). Not only is it more comfortable for me, it makes it easier and quicker to get to my weapon should I ever need to. That's basically it in a nutshell...it's a comfort issue for me. But as stated before, even when I have my weapon on my hip, I try to cover it with an open shirt.

Texas Open Carry Update

When the OP began this thread, it was April, and we were doing a four-month update of the open carry law that became effective in Texas at the first of the year.
Now in July, it looks as if we've sort of segued on into a seven-month "update".
I can't wait for the Texas Open Carry Annual Update.
I wonder how many of us will still be alive to comment on the Ten Year Update on Texas Open Carry?

On a much more entertaining note, I see that your atavar has changed again!!! He's (or She's) looking good!! At least not snarling, as at one time.... And now back to the Texas Open Carry Chronicles....

Well, Keith, West Virginia is a little like that. We only have 1.8 million people here, but estimates are that there are many more guns here than people. Some folks say that if I moved out of state, and took my guns with me, that the number would drop significantly, though.

And yet you come back to comment. For someone who claims to be bored by a topic you seem pretty fixated on it.
Actually, I was wondering if the discussion would include thoughts post Dallas. Some open carry folks were detained from what I have read during the shooting event. I could see how this might open a new chapter in the debate for and against. But I suppose that discussion may be taking place here. Open Carry at the Dallas Protest March
Nope, I do not live in Texas but we have open carry here in WI and have had it for a long time.
But the topic is interesting to me none the less unlike Annoyed by Thread Drift...

You're right in that some of these conversations need to be in that other thread. But I will say this...If I were a cop assigned (or volunteering) to keep watch over a protest rally and all of the sudden bullets started flying at my nose, I too might want to detain anyone I saw with a gun...at least until I was sure they weren't the shooter. There was a guy walking down the street (before the shooting started) with an AR15 slung over his shoulder. There were pictures and videos of him all over the news. He was perfectly legal (and NOT the shooter), but certainly could have been considered a suspect, or at least a person of interest.

Bloomberg did and editorial on open carry a few days after the Dallas tragedy. The headline was along the lines of "Open Carry: Failed!". Basically, they took the position that presence of openly carried firearms slowed and confused the reaction of the DPD. I believe that the persons with weapons on display probably did present a problem for the police. But, Bloomberg has taken an anti 2A position in the past. Of course they used this incident to not only rant on open carry but to also bang the drum for more gun control.

A rich idiot.

Don't forget, in addition to not wanting you to have a gun, he wants to tell you how much soda you can drink, whether or not you can smoke, and all of the other things he wants to regulate. He is a natural born "nanny", suffering from "little guy syndrome". And because he is one of the richest men in the world, he can afford to spend obscene amounts of money to elect people who promise to do what he wants, and pay for advertising to make sure that they are elected, and then he has also bought the so-called "ballot initiatives" in many states to get around pesky elected officials he can't buy, and then pay for the propaganda to ensure those initiatives win in general elections.
He is a very dangerous man, and will stop at nothing to ensure that our second amendment rights are slowly eroded, to the point we will no longer recognize them.
Do not underestimate this man. He is dedicated to disarming Americans, and has the money to do so.
Best Regards, Les

Just came from a civilian hospital the VA sent me to, instead of to the VA in Louisiana and now they have two legal signs, one for
open carry and one for concealed carry, the 30.06 & 30.07. I
guess when they updated their none legal gun buster sign, they
decided to post two legal ones. Up till now I had been able to
carry concealed at least when I went there. i felt naked with a
balcony overhead and not near enough police with guns there
to convince me I was safe.
