J frame IWB holster Best Choice
I'm looking for an IWB holster for my 640. I have been looking at the Don Hume H715, Pro Carry Hd, Talon Holster, and the Bianchi 100. All but the talon are about the same price $35-$40. I pocket carry most of the time but would like to also have the option of IWB at the 4 o'clock position. I'm looking for something better than the desantis that I purchased a few years back. It does not stay open when revolver is drawn.

I use a Side Guard Holsters Quick Clip IWB holster for my 642. Easy on, easy off, but stays on the belt when drawing the gun. It has a reinforced mouth and stays open when the gun is drawn. It also carries well, with the cylinder in line with the belt for good stability. It's easy to get a good grip on the gun when drawing. It retains the gun well but draws easily.
I think the price is reasonable considering it's a custom holster ($55 last time I checked). There is a wait, though. I think it's about 12 weeks. I would recommend this holster without hesitation. Mine has a 15-degree cant, but you can specify what cant angle you want when you order. They also have similar models with different features.

I have a Side Guard for my K frame, and another on order for my J frame.
The off-set clip lets the revolver carry flatter inside the waistband than the more common arrangement of "clip over cylinder."

I forgot to mention that. It's one of the things I like about the holster. Another benefit is that with the clip to the rear, belt tension pulls the butt of the gun into your side, so it helps with concealment.

Thanks for the info. Going to a local gun show tomorrow and see if there is anything there. I will look into the side guard and make a determination. I really want the reinforced opening. And I like what you said about the placement of the clip it will give me something to consider also,

I ordered this holster but, with the quick snap. Waiting on its arrival and looking forward to giving it a try. Never had much luck with IWB holsters.

I have tried a few different IWB holsters for my 642. I have had the best luck by using a Desantis Clip-Grip in the 3:30/4:00 position.

Big, big, big fan of the Stealthgear Onyx. It's expensive, but their quality is top notch, maintenance is nil, comfort is second to none, and adjustability is outstanding.

Through the years I tried all types of holsters for different revolvers and pistols. I always came back to the Safariland suede IWB holster with a clip. After use for a while the leather conforms to the shape of the firearm, they are comfortable and best of all cheap. They used to make mag carriers, and cuff holders as well. I do not know if Bianchi has similar holsters.

No wonder Sideguard is so back ordered,
My Sideguard with a snap should be delivered this month. I went the minimalist version because I do not worry about the re-holster issue and wanted the thinnest leather holster I could could find with that clip/snap configuration.
