Delays getting permits
I just had to submit my ccdw permit renewal here in Delaware. Everyone's permits run out May 31st (varied years but all run until may 31st of your renewal year). But, you are allowed to submit your renewal Jan 1 of the year your permit runs out. Your very first permit is only good for 3 years then each renewal is good for 5 years.
Anyway, are all states seeing a long delay in receiving your permit in the mail?
When I got my first permit it took about 10 months to get it because the state was so back logged. When I stopped by the courthouse to drop off my renewal last Friday. The lady at the window said that they are way behind still. Each County is supposed to handle their own permits but apparently now they are sending all the new and renewals up to New Castle County. She said that they had just finished permits that were submitted in January and they are starting Feb submittals just a couple days ago. We were all informed to continue carrying our old permit but keep a copy of our receipt for the renewal and we wouldn't have any issues. But if they continue at this rate I won't get mine til after the first of next year.

I recently got a non resident Florida permit and they took 95 days .. and were suppose to be under 90 I think ..
got it just in time for our visit down there ..
So many are getting their permits right now I think its slowed the system down in some states which weren't
prepared for the increase .. have heard a lot of women getting their permits which is good to see !! All the classes around me are usually full and the couple of indoor ranges seem to be always full and impossible to get in on a weekend with out a wait for a lane !!

Delaware and my non resident Arizona permits both call for 60 days or less. And yes it's always great to see more people getting their permits. I just wish once you got a permit your permit was good anywhere inside the United States and it's territories.

I was told they were way behind in Texas. My instructor told the class we'd lucky to get it in 120 days. The State says you will receive it in 60 days from them receiving all required paperwork. I was expecting a delay but mine still arrived right at 60 days. Maybe they liked me.

In many jurisdictions in CA getting the original permit can take several months.

Recently renewed mine. I dropped the paperwork and payment off on Tuesday and had it in my hands four days later on Saturday.
It helps that your receipt becomes your permit if the permit is not issued 45 days after application. Even original apps usually take much less than that. The statute keeps the antis from holding up your permit just because they can.

When I moved 3 months ago my permit was set to expire in 30 days. I went to my new city's PD to get it renewed/address changed and was told it's a good thing there was a month to go on my existing permit because they were nearly a month behind on processing. Was also told that my receipt for the permit renewal was NOT valid for continuing to carry after the old one expired if the new one hadn't arrived. That was a surprise. New one arrived after three weeks so they must not have been quite as backlogged as I was led to believe.

I renewed mine in January. There were two people in line ahead of me. That delayed mine by about 15 minutes. So 30 minutes instead of 15. It's a good think that I put a whole quarter in the meter.

In CA the whole process takes about 4 months from application to license receipt. However, renewal takes about 10 minutes. We have to renew on the two year anniversary of issuance.

Renewal is also very quick in Missouri. Ten minutes sounds about right as I recall.

Like many have said in California permits are given out buy local law enforcement usally the sheriff department . In the area of Northern California it can take a year from start to finish. Tough to take but in this Anti-gun state I guess we should be glad we can even get one

So, it took ten months to get your original permit, they allow you to file for renewal 5 months ahead of time and you waited until the week before it expires? You have much more faith in your state's bureaucracy than I do...good thing they allow you to pay and wait without the permit expiring.

Well I was in the hospital with my father for the past few months. He passed away from liver failure just a few weeks ago, so I had other things going on.

Locally, our last renewal took 30 days, almost exactly. Original issue was 10 days or so.
Two friends just got their (new) permits==both got their cards within 2-3 days.

Last December it took almost 4 wks; usually it's a few days. A high school pal works at the Sheriff's dept and took my renewal. She said they're buried with new and renewals. For renewals, they prioritize based on how much time you have left before expiration. She said they may take the full thirty days allowed by law since I had plenty of time. We can renew 90 days prior or up to 90 days after expiration, but renewing afterwards requires a late fee.

Michigan has improved greatly. Originally, each county had a "gun board" which approved each application. Depending on the county, the boards could really slow down the process by meeting delays, etc. However, Michigan law recently took the power away from them and invested the process with the county clerk's offices. The county sheriff still runs a new background check, but it runs very quickly. Pictures and data are all now digital.
My son just had his renewed, and was given a temporary permit to be used if the process took over 30 days. He got his renewal in the mail in less than five days. Real improvement.

Yup. Since the state began letting the Sheriff issue the actual permit, it's speeded the whole process up considerably . . .

I renewed mine in April, there were 4 people in front of me. I was there about 25 minutes total, and walked out with my new CCW card.

In my county, they just announced a six month backlog for permits...they are considering opening the office processing applications on Saturdays. I don't like paying taxes but this softens the sting a little .

Same for me. The Texas DPS (DPS stands for Department of Public Safety...in other words, the State Police) is required by state law to either issue the permit or deny the application within 60 days of receipt of all supporting documents. If that response is a denial, they could tack on an additional 120 days of hearings, etc, for you to prove your case and re-submit your application. In other words, it could take a long time in Texas if you don't have all your ducks in a row. I think they are required by the same law to have renewals processed in 45 days, but I'd have to verify that. The state reports a 139% increase in the number of applications compared to the same time period last year. As a result, they've had to hire extra help and work overtime 7 days a week to keep up with demand. Like Slingn said, I guess they liked me because they issued my permit on the exact 60th day from when they received all my paperwork. If you don't believe it really takes that long in Texas, go in to any sporting goods store and look at the line of people wanting to look at handguns. That should tell you something. For all you folks who can get same day or same week service, consider yourselves extremely lucky.

I got my Utah renewal in 9 days, including transit time, from keyboard to doorstep. It's good in Delaware, but I can't get there without crossing hostile territory.

I understand that hostile territory. I'm damn near landlocked. To the north I have PA which no longer accepts DE but I can very easily get a non resident. Then I have Jersey and Maryland which won't give out permits unless your connected. I wish if you take the proper class and get vetted by the FBI and DOJ to get a permit it should be good for the entire country and any of its territories.
Does anyone else agree with having a national ccw permit?

No, it's a terrible idea.
Before you head down this ridiculously over-hashed subject, read this thread: Federal License to Carry?

It's the same in Mississippi, walk in with the paper work - walk out with the renewal.
The original permit can take up to 4weeks, but is usually faster.

No delays here in PA.!
15-30 minutes tops depending on what time of day and your local Sheriff's office.

About the same in my county unless you go to a substation at which point you wait for them to send it to the main station and back again. About a week! Otherwise 5 - 30 min depending on how busy it is at the time you show up

KS decided it is wrong to have to petition the government to exercise a constitutional right. We have constitutional carry. I wish the rest of the country did. Gun control equals people control period.

Probably doesn't make a difference but I don't know how out of state permits are handled. Assuming that it doesn't matter. ...
Try the Bucks Co. PA. Courthouse is in Doylestown Pa, a very nice area...historic, clean, friendly. Lots of places to eat at if you make a day out of it. The Sheriff is easy going and pro gun or at least not anti gun. Takes about 10 min....more or less. Again, assuming that there is no difference between resident and out of state procedures. The place is about 20 min north of NE Philly. Or about an hour drive from the DE state line. Takes me 45 min to go from Doylestown to Media/Swarthmore Pa. Directions are fairly easy. Few turns....mainly go straight.
Chester Co. is closer to you but I don't know how their Sheriff is
If you go there call ahead just in case. Never know.....why spend 2 hrs driving for something silly.

Thanks yea I was told that it's about a 10 minute process just don't know the people up there and trying to get a feel. I read a post awhile back on another forum that had a list of places not to go to.

If I were you I'd definitely call and ask just in case the Sheriff isn't in today or .....? But typically he's very cool with this stuff. When I had my SBR paperwork he didn't even come out to meet me. I walked in and told the secretary i needed my NFA paperwork signed and she automatically assumed I was getting a silencer . Took the paperwork, walked in his office and came out a min later with it signed.
I've never went there for my license dispite the fact that I live 2 miles away. When they open I'm already at work and I don't want to loose money over this so I go to the substation 5 miles from my work. This takes a little over a week buy I do it in advance so as not to be expired.
Try calling Chester Co. first just in case, they are a lot closer but I believe their courthouse is NOT in the green zone
