Three years ago I acquiesced and ended the search.

If I'm wearing anything with a pocket, it will have an LCP in it.

My perfect handgun? Hmmm... my first carry was a Smith 4006, which I used to qualify for my conceal carry license in Oklahoma. After considerable research, I joined this fine forum in search for what I thought was the perfect pistol, a 4013 TSW, which became my favorite carry. Then I discovered the stainless Smith wheel guns and changed to a Smith M60-9 short barrel (1 7/8", I think). Then... after shooting a HK USP .45, thanks to an LE buddy, I found and carry a HK USP .45 compact when traveling or working on the farm. Fast forward to today... another buddy got me interested in Sigs. My current everyday carry is a P938 Nightmare in a Barsony Leather pocket holster. So... I guess it all depends on what I'm doing and my mood.

These are the ones I'm carrying lately.

The 1911 shrunk and the J frame is a little jazzier.

For me, the perfect carry handgun is my Model 19-4 (4"), target hammer and trigger + tuned action. I find that it conceals quite well and I have complete confidence in it's reliability and my abilities with it. Bought it new in 1980, for $135.00. I load it with Federal .357 158 gr SJSP. I consider this set-up an all-purpose sidearm.

If we are talking about a CC gun then I would say the Glock 43 is
as good as it gets. For a combination of size, weight, slick profile,
design integrity, reliability and power I don't know of anything else
that compares to the G43.

Still looking. So far the K-38 Combat Masterpiece is my leading candidate.

As I stated earlier, if I could choose only ONE it would be the Shield 9mm. It's the ideal combination of size, capacity, and power (and reasonably priced too). Yet, there are times when something smaller is required due to dress. That's when the Bodyguard 380 serves very nicely. And for the times when ease of concealment is not an issue?....Browning Hi-Power is the perfect carry gun!

I'll try to ignore Rastoff's comment about a "mans caliber".

Since the mid 70's I have carried a 4" 67 .38, 4" Colt Trooper Mark III .357, a 4" 686 .357 and consealed carry a 640 .357.
I liked all of them but I would say my 640 is my favorite with my Trooper 2nd, model 67 3rd, my 686 4th.

I wallet carry my LCP on a daily basis. It go's with me everywhere. In times past I have carried bigger and smaller caliber guns. I am content with the .380acp round for now but I wouldn't be afraid to switch it up/down with one of my 22Lr's if I had a decent holster. I never have felt under gunned when I did carry a 22. Actually the only time I have ever had to use a firearm in self defense was with a S&W 34 while out in the woods. It served me well. The 2214 I picked up recently is breaking in fine. I have around 3-400 rounds through it and I am sure it is near ready to be trusted as a companion. Pluses are that it is a SA holds mor rounds and that it will shoot much smaller groups than the LCP. Minuses are that it is heavier than the LCP and a smaller caliber.

Default Many Favorites to Choose From ...

Since acquiring my 340PD AirLite it has become my primary carry weapon. Incredibly light and very conceilable AIWB even under a tank top. My Kimber Ultra Carry II goes with it when more than 5 shots might be needed, carried ISW at 8 o'clock for left hand draw.

Since joining this forum I have become a 3rd gen S&W collector (thanks guys) and now have a CS9, 3913NL, 411, and two 10mm choices, a 1076 and 1006.

The CS9 AIWB or 4 o'cock if clothing allows, the 3913NL in shoulder holster, or the 411 in hi-rise belt holster are my other choices.

If it would ever come to actual shooting the 411 would be what I'd like to have in my hand, just wish it came in a full 10mm.

Currently, I have been practicing with a PD surplus 3953. I can't say it is my "perfect handgun" as I am not sure that has been invented yet. Nevertheless, I am much impressed with this pistol and consider it a good combination of safety and accuracy - with of course, the Third Gen dependability we have come to know and depend on. Right now it is wearing Ladysmith stocks as that was all Midway was selling and the grips that came on the pistol were pounded smooth.

"Perfect?" Maybe not, but this will do nicely until the real "perfect" gets here, to paraphrase that sheriff in "No Country For Old Men."

Never thought I'd be saying that an auto was my favorite, even my "perfect" handgun; but the more I shoot it, the better I get and the more I enjoy it. Plus my wife has started shooting it on a regular basis and is planning on getting her CC permit. Which means I'll soon be in the market for another one.

I have an ultra reliable 22Lr in the stable. It is a Ruger 22/45 LITE. If a bug out were necessary this would be the gun that I'd grab. I need a holster for this one too. I've looked at messenger bags from 5.11 tactical as a possible carry method. Perfect is hard to qualify.

Sig P225, and a Nickle Centennial, or a Colt Agent with a hammer shroud.

If I think I might be going to war, it';s a Sig 229 in .357 sig.

I started out in 1970 with a 4" Model 19, went to a 49 and then to a 1911 Government Model for CC.

In 1980 I picked up a 1952 vintage Colt Commander in .38 Super. After addressing some accuracy issues that were solved with a new BarSto barrel, I carried the gun daily until 2007. It was replaced by another 1952 Commander in .38 Super that was customized with night sights and full hard chrome finish. It still gets carried daily and rarely anything else.

For me the Commander in .38 Super has just the right balance of power, recoil control, accuracy, weight and concealability...

If I need something smaller then I like the Kahr P380....very compact and accurate. For something larger with more power for woods carry then a 4" 57/657 .41 Magnum gets the duty...

For CC that three gun battery is about all I need...Bob

I thought it was the M&P 340 with Gold Dot Short Barrel .38, then I stumbled upon the 640 Pro.

Today the big Brown truck will bring a nice supply of Barnes TAC-XPD .357 Magnum 125gr HP Lead-Free so I'll give that a go in the 640 (and maybe in the 340, too, as a bug for those long walks in the woods).

Default "have you found your perfect handgun"?

In answer to your question, "have you found your perfect handgun"? The answer is yes, I've narrowed it down to about ten perfect handguns, and many more that are not so perfect. The list is growing all the time! This is just great to me, and I'm looking forward to the next perfect one, at all times. It's one of the great pleasures, left to me in life, and I'm enjoying it immensely.

I switched off my first, second, and third awhile ago. I went back to my first truck gun, a 2" Model 10. It is perfect. But I have another perfect one, too, but I didn't find it, I had it built for me/customized for me.

It has arrived - Smith 64 'Airweight' Custom, Semi-Fitzed Snubby

That's my standard EDC now, although under certain circumstances I do go back to some of the others..

My favorite defense firearm to shoot is my M&P 9c with Apex duty/carry trigger. It feels perfectly balanced in my hands and I really like the trigger. It is my HD option but doesn't get carried often because it's heavier than I like.

For EDC I have come to really, really like my LCR 357 and Glock 42. Both are lightweight and comfortable to shoot. The LCR gets IWB duty when wearing long pants and pocket duty with pants/shorts with larger pockets. The G42 gets the nod for pocket carry on shorts with smaller pockets.

The LCR 357 is so versatile. It usually is carried with 38 +p rounds but Golden Sabre 357s are a great option too. I carry it loaded with shotshell in a pocket holster when at my hunting property. Love it.

Default Perfect CC

After years of experimenting with different guns, I finally found what I consider the best by far. This 360J scandium, 18 oz. loaded with 110 grain Hornady Critical Defense

Exactly! I mean being armed should be as effective as possible. If it means you feel that gun, oh well, I want my best shooter, that's my 4" 686, might not be as comfy as a tiny semi, but when you need it, you want it.

There have been many that were perfect - at least for a time. I cycle through them. Currently its a Glock 26 gen 4. Oh so concealable, reliable and accurate, better than average capacity and it feels so good in my hand!

I'd like to believe that this is the one. But I know myself better than that.

Ruger SP101 is my every day carry. I know it's only 5 shots, but the
average self-defense shooting only requires 2.7 shots, and remember,
David defeated Goliath with only 5 pebbles for his slingshot. He only
needed one. It's heavy enough to tame the recoil of the full .357 loads
and light enough to carry in a concealed hip holster. I prefer the
concealed hammer so it will not snag on the draw, and the double
action only reduces the chance of a hair trigger discharge. Double
action is also quicker. A new one does need a Wolf spring and a good
action job. I don't have to worry about ammo. It will handle just about
anything. Crimson Trace is a great aid for dry fire practice and it could
be handy in CQC when your hand/arm not holding your gun could be
busy blocking, parrying, palm smashing the attackers nose, poking
your fingers in his eyes or whatever. The Price Western #320 holster
is light, high ride, and open top, relying on precise wet molding for
retention, making it a split second faster than holsters with retention
devices. Paraphrasing something John Bianchi said many years ago:
"Always carry the same gun in the same holster in the same location...
because muscles have memory".

I truly enjoy my S&Ws but for me the pistol I carry more than any other is a Colt Defender in .45. The 1911 is the pistol I learned to shoot with as a mere 12 yr. old almost 48 years ago.

I use a proper belt (The Beltman), a holster made by a local gentleman (Sweetwater Saddelry) and a DeSantis spare mag carrier.

I shoot the Defender better than any other compact handgun I own, it's flat profile makes it virtually disappear with my everyday wardrobe during the spring/summer. Yes it gets quite hot here in the Denver area during the summer.

For many years it was some version of a S&W revolver but I kept returning to the 1911.

When the weather cools and I'm wearing a jacket or zip sweatshirt I tend to grab either my M&P full size in 9 or my 5" 1911. Sometimes I'm known to carry along a 4" 629 or 686 when camping/hiking the high country around here.

I also train quarterly with a very highly qualified instructor near me, have the next class in 3 weeks as a matter of fact.

I use the semis because I shoot/reload them better than any other handgun I own.

My perfect carry gun is actually a perfect series of several guns. The base model is the DAO S&W 3953 but if conditions allow I'll upgrade to the 6946 or 5943. I keep a CS9D around in case the 3953 proves to be too large, but in reality I'd be perfectly happy with just the 3953 and 5943,.......and a 5946 for home duty. A bunch of different model numbers but really just a single gun(with slightly differing weights and capacities).

Default Shield

Comfortable carry for me is the Smith and Wesson Shield. Perfect for hand grip when using the 8 round magazine. It just feels good and has quite a wallop for a 9mm. Great gun!

My perfect concealed everyday carry gun? Yes, a 396 with a titanium cylinder and now with a bobbed hammer. Holding 5 44 specials and weighing less than my 36-1, and around the same as my CA Bulldogs. I am a happy camper with this one. Now to go out to the shop and built a couple speed loaders to fit it and my 69 and 396.

In my one pick up there is what looks like 4' of 1=1/8" braided rope. It is actually lead weighted line from the bottom of a commercial seine net. It would act like a giant sap.

Considering that my "perfect carry gun"
would have the ballistics of a Model 29, the recoil of a Mark II, the concealability of a J frame, and the capacity of an Glock 17, I'm still searching, but my Sig 226 will do for now.

That’s a tough one as the way I look at it, the perfect gun for me is the one I shoot the best. Back when I was young, fast, agile and muscular, my choice would’ve been something entirely different than today in my 6th decade. My body is part of the overall mechanism that makes the bullet hit the target. Onward: My Smith& Wesson Model 17–2 with the 5 ˝ inch barrel, combined with a particular load is what I do best with. BTW, I do carry this particular revolver and surprisingly it isn't as difficult to CC as you might imagine. Of course you have to be somewhat creative and willing to spend the extra money for the select holsters that will do the job. Now, when the summer temps reach upward to 115° I compromise to a 7-shot S&W 351 .22 mag w/CT LG350 Grips. Dang, that last part almost sounded like I knew what I was talking about.

I've found a few that I particularly like:

My two NAA mini revolvers (.22wmr) make great BUGs. I think the .22wmr is nasty little beastie, so there are times I may only have one of those on me - mostly when I'm just putting around the house.

My Taurus TCP has been a reliable little pocket pistol, as has my G42 and Polish P64. I carry them when I need to pocket carry, and want something bigger than the NAA minis.

My M&P Shield (9mm) is the one I carry most. For my purposes and self-defense philosophy, three seven round magazines full of Federal 124 gr HST (standard pressure) and my Shield are gonna give me just about all the juice I'm ever likely to need.

But as far as the spirit of this post is concerned, no... I have not found that perfect gun. I like too many guns. I suppose if I could only have one gun (hey, Hillary might get her happy self elected), then I'd settle for the Shield. Gimme two, then it would be Shield and one of my NAA minis.

The Taurus TCP is in the same league, except it has the best trigger I've ever experienced on a pocket rocket. Not too thrilled about any Taurus other than the TCP or their M85 snubby, though.

Since the 80s, I have carried a 4" "N" frame chambered for the 45 ACP. First, a M28-2 I modified, next a 1917 with a short barrel and no a S&W M22-4. For me, the perfect choice.

Any gun that reliably covers my "6" and just plain works, no matter the place or the time, is aces in my book.

Since the late 80's that role has been fulfilled primarily by Glocks but for some years earlier and some since my issued (or owned) Model 15, 19, 36 and 6906 never failed me either when they were part of my daily life.
