Dont think i have found my perfect carry gun but have found some that come darn close for my purposes. My lcp w/ crimson trace laser is my go to carry gun. Kahr K9 is my second most carried. My Glock 19 is probably next in line.

Default My Current Perfect Gun ...

If I can have only one of my guns as the most perfect it has to be my Shorty Forty. Serial number 36 of the Paul Lebinberger design that the corporate big wigs said couldn't be built until he brought it to the next Board meeting.

I have been searching for over 40 years for the perfect one and only CCW pistol, but as others have stated, it doesn't exist. I narrowed it down to 2 handguns, maybe 3.
The S&W 640 J frame in 357 mag.
The S&W Shield (I have one in 9mm)
When visiting high crime areas, the CZ 75B PCR.
My personal opinion, I aspire to the 3-3-3 rule; 3 shots in 3 seconds within 3 yards. (I used to think and say 3 feet, but I have adjusted my thinking as 3 feet is awfully close)
I am not a LEO, security professional or in any high level threat position; merely a mortal soul looking to protect my butt......

Red face

When I posted way back on page 1, I didn't even realize the OP asked about carry guns.

I bought a S&W 642 over 20 years ago, and have been happy with that choice for carry ever since. Ommmm

For the last 5+ years for me it's been an M&P 9c with thumb safety, 17 rounds with x-grip, in a Galco horsehide tuckable. I've tried revolvers and other calibers but this seem to work for me the best.

The best I found was the Colt Commander. I liked it in either .45 or .38 Super, though generally I leaned toward the .45 since I used to shoot a few rounds just about anytime I had the chance. Was loathe to lose my Super brass, which was much harder to come by back then.

I'd say my Bodyguard except that I still think it's a tad under powered, low on rounds, and I had to spend a decent amount on aftermarket parts just to "fix" the factory trigger.

So, maybe it's not the Bodyguard even though I carry it 5 days a week. It's not my Glock either, despite my love for it. Just a bit too fat and heavy.

I'd have to guess it's somewhere along the lines of a Sig Sauer P938 or maybe even a Walther PPS(v1)? I've held both but shot neither. Both seem like the right weight and size, plus 9mm, but only actual carry reveals the qualities of a gun that keep it in my rotation. I'm more citical of these things as I get older.

Nope, I've tried to find the perfect pistol for over 50 years, still looking. But now I carry a 638 for social work & a No. American 22 with snake shot When out in the woods. Both are good but not perfect.

Since retiring from LE, I have tried every year as we come up on annual qualifications to cut down to just four. I think I've pretty well decided on the four I carry most often; M&P 340, 640-1, Shield .45, Glock 19. The 340 M&P gets the call a very large portion of the time, with the Shield being a close second.

This year, the 640-1 may get assigned to safe duty as I'm about to buy a new Model 66 2 3/4" .357 magnum. It's getting a little easier to decide as I get older and more used to comfort while maintaining capability, but I still find that different modes of dress, activity planned and locations dictate the choice for the day.

Glock 36. Single stack of 6 + 1 230gr HST with ridiculous reliability gives me peace of mind.

Yes I have. The Colt commander (04692) is the perfect handgun. With the right holster and belt it is comfortable to carry. I am for the most part a mediocre shot but with this weapon I can actually hit what I aim at out to 25 yards.

I'd have to say that my new model 69 with the 2.75 inch barrel is a real contender here. Lots of versatility since I can use holsters I already have for my 686 and the variety of ammunition it can handle.

Well after 10 years and 15 or so guns I've come full circle started out with a Model 37. Somehow became enamored with bottom feeders. Those are all gone except for a Glock in the nightstand. I've narrowed it down to these two, sometimes I carry both. A M&P 340 that I weld it up the internal lock holes.. it's now wearing a bead blasted finish and a titanium cylinder that I fitted. I'm kind of a two is one one is none kind of guy so I picked up 340pd no lock. I don't see myself ever carrying anything but a revolver and these two fit the bill perfect.

I really love my Ruger SR9c, but it has become a home gun. My Shield 9 may end up being the one I carry until it wears out.

I've tried the Shield 40, and Glock G27 which is 40 also.
Now I carry a CZ P-07 in 9mm.
I've decided that striker subs chambered in 40 aren't for me.
I like the DA/SA w/de-cocker in a compact size 9 a lot better.
It may not be perfect, but for me right now, its pretty dang close.

The PPK is a great gun that is too often overlooked.
The polymer guns may weigh less but none can match it's track record.

Me too...the thing about having a favorite carry gun is you need to really CARRY it. The BG380 is the only gun I actually carry reguarly. My other guns are all in a safe at home locked up begging to get carried!

Glad to see this post is still active!
A lot of nice handguns have been pictured as well.
As of now my favorite and most easily carried is my Ruger LCP.

My M36....accurate, powerful enough and easy to conceal.

Have to admit a close second is my 3" GP100 (sorry S&W)

....the 36 was my grandfather's and was the first handgun I ever shot. Still carry it a lot.

A much newer 442 is generally my EDC, but it's just a tool.

Perfect? Nope, but what I am usually carrying is a 36, 442 or a Sig 938.
The Ruger LCP is usually along for the ride, regardless.
Colder weather it could be a G19 or a Commander but I find them a little more cumbersome after the previous picks.

I don't know about "perfect", but my Citadel 3.5CS certainly meets my current needs. It:
  • is in an effective caliber, .45acp.
  • is abundantly accurate at typical engagement ranges.
  • reliable enough to trust my life to.
  • is short and thin enough to be comfortably carried in a tuckable IWB holster.
  • was very reasonably priced from a local big box chain.

Whichever gun I have holstered on the hip is the perfect carry. Right now it is a Uberti 51 Navy cartridge conversion around the house.

My usual OC is a Star Super A, or 4 inch GP100, but there are others depending on my mood.

For me it would be two, my 3953 (bought it new in 1991) and my 642 (bought in 1996 or 1997?).

M&P 340! Very light weight, and I can comfortably shoot .357 Mag rounds with the addition of Crimson Trace LG-350 Lasergrips to back up the already incredible sights.

I have an awful lot of handguns, but this is what I mostly carry:

A 340 PD, with a Galco horsehide pocket holster, and loaded with Speer 357 magnum short barrel 135 gr. Gold Dots.

I feel confident with it, and loaded in the holster, weight is just under 16 ounces. With me constantly, unless I feel like carrying something else just for variety.

Best Regards, Les
