I posted above about the guns I carry and like to carry...........auto are all DA/SA decocker........ but

Reading the posts...... reminded me that "If I carried cocked and locked" it would be hard to do better than the Browning HP design........ the MkIII with Mec-gar 15 round mags...... and Spegel or Hogue grips......... two thumbs up!!!!! With modern defense ammo .....or even the older standard velocity Federal 9 BP load you would be good to go.

Depending on circumstances I carry one or the other of these.

M&P 9 or 9c

If you have arthritis in your hands or wrists I would strongly recommend that you fire an LCP on a bad day before purchasing one

On the flip-side, if it doesn't bother you to shoot, I've found my little Kel-Tec to be indispensable for some carry situations. A nice tool to have in the box.

For EDC, my Colt Detective Special.

Perfect overall, and still carry-able, would be my BHP.

Other "perfect" carry guns that I've acquired:

S&W Model 39
S&W Model 19-5 2.5"
Ruger SRH Snubby .44 Magnum

They all get carried, which one depends on the situation. Or my mood!

Any way I carry every where I go. Every day. All the time. Even out side in my own yard I have a little something or other to keep the punks off me. I'm small and old and look like an easy target. I'm anything but. However people have been assaulted in their yards and even in their garages so when I'm out messin' around in the yard or garage I'm "dressed".

There are any number of places I might go and each might require a different style/type of dress depending upon the weather or what I'll be doing etc. This necessitates something that is appropriate for every situation.

Besides who wants to carry the same old gun all the time. In many aspects of life variety really is the spice of life and I think it make things more interesting if not more fun.

My big 3 (and this has been trimmed down some since I thinned the herd) are as follows

1. Ruger SR-1911 .45 auto plus 2 extra magazines-For the road and for cold weather when a jacket or coat or bulkier clothing might be required. I can easily conceal this with some of my summer duds but not all.

2. Ruger SP-101 .38 spl/.357 mag. 4" stainless. This one conceals more easily and comfortably and is my main carry in summer attire or when I might be a little more active and/or sitting and standing a lot. It's only a 5 shot so I carry 2 speed loaders in a double carrier.

3. KelTec P-32 .32 auto. I carry this most often as a "bug" when I'm on the road or possibly in a place or situation where I perceive a greater threat/risk of a problem. It's also my yard gun and beach gun. I know it's a little light for some situations but I carry fmj for better penetration. Hollow points don't always feed properly and you can experience jams and failure to feed. Also some hollow point ammo in the smaller calibers don't always expand as they should.

Anyway It can carry 7+1 and I would never rely on it in a gunfight across the street or even across the room. It is mostly for close up and personal and as a back up for the semi auto and the revolver.

Correction: As some of you may have or soon will notice the middle pic is not a Ruger SP-101. It is a pic of my S&W 624. I am currently unable to find any pics of the SP-101. When I set up this new laptop I am now positive that I lost some of my pics.
But where is yer Rough Rider?

I'm convinced that there does not exist a more perfect handgun than the S&W Model 52, but of course its tremendously impractical as a self defense gun unless your attacker is a bullseye target.

For all intents and purposes, I consider a 4" Model 19 the one of the best all around handguns both for range time and as a self defense gun.

I couldn't agree with you more..it's "one of the best".... except.... I'm lucky enough to have a 3 inch 66..... in my opinion a "bit "best'er"!!!!!!!!

Currently I'm liking a nickel plated Model 38 with a reload in a speed strip. Traveling I carry a Glock 19 and two extra magazines. Working around the ranch, it's my KelTec PMR 30. As others have noted, there is no one perfect carry gun, IMHO.

Try a different holster, people can conceal a 1911 quite well, a CZ83 should be a cake walk.

I have a couple Baby Chiefs that I drop in my pocket on occasion, but mostly it's the Series 70 1911 that's my favorite.

After many purchases, I "think" that I am settled on a Ruger LC9s pro because it lends itself to different methods of concealed carry and has an excellent trigger - however I cannot seem to part with my P938.

I will stick with my Makarov. It has proven flawlessly reliable in over 1,600 rounds of ammo through it. That REALLY makes me like it, and with 8+1 and a slim comfortable grip, it suit me very well. The CZ-82/83s are good guns, but too large for the 9x18mm cartridge IMHO.

Yes, MANY TIMES. However there are times when my Perfect handgun is a 4 inch model 67, times when it's a 2 1/2 inch model 19, and times when it's either a 1911 Commander or a 1911 Government model. It seems that I have a rather difficult time in settling on what is Perfect on a Permanent basis. To be blunt, I just can't make up my mind.

I found mine about 20 years ago 45ACP 1911 Commanders. I just bought a Ruger LW Commander in 9mm and also have a Shield 9mm. But I'm a 45 guy at heart!!

Model 66-4 in custom "Snubbyfan"
Kimber Ultra Carry in a Ken Campbell small-of-back

Shield 9 or a Model 49 J frame. Their title might be in jeopardy. Planning on acquiring the new Shield 45 when they finally become available. If it proves to be anywhere near as dependable as my 9mm, it'll become my favorite.

Ditto! For my dress up days, it's a Bodyguard 380 in a pocket holster. Casual days, it's my Shield 40 in a DeSantis scabbard on my right hip, under an open shirt (over a t-shirt). My wife carries her 638 snub nose in her purse.

No, I haven't, but I know what it would be....an H&K P30sk single stack. Nothing wrong with the P30sk as is though it is just a little chubby to carry iwb FOR ME. The gun I carry every day is the .380 Bodyguard and love the gun....totally reliable and accurate.

I just renewed my CCW and put my M431PD and M49 on the list.

So far, I like the 431 best. It disappears in my pocket and is so light I forget I'm carrying it.

It's shown below with a Nemesis holster, 32 H&R Magnum Critical Defense in a speed loader (my carry ammo) and a speed loader with Buffalo Bore 32 long round nose as a reload.

I may move to 32 H&R Magnum Buffalo Bore 100 gr JHP as both carry and reload ammo. Need more experience with it first.

Depending on attire and weather I bounce between my customized 640 and 351PD w/CT grips.

For a revolver, the Model 66 2 1/2" is just about perfect, for an auto the Springfield XDM in .45.

686 Plus 2.5" for EDC, and a 640 as a backup.

No such thins as the perfect handgun! If there was we would all stop searching for it and that would end all our fun. The closest I have come to perfect is a bobbed hammer M-64 snubby.

Now if they would just re-introduce the M-12 in a +P rated version with SS cylinder and barrel!

Right now, the "perfect" carry gun is a 6906 that has a really nice DA trigger pull. 12+1 in a very compact package suits me well.

The 3913 is also close to "perfect".

I'll either get it fixed or wait till Academy puts them on sale again and get a new one.

Not shooting much these days either and when I shoot .22s I'm still givin' my new Sig 1911-22 all the action. The rough rider is on the back burner for the time being.

...uhhhh....no. That said my 19-8 4" is my favorite side arm and my OC, the most used ,however, is my 19-4 snub, EDC. I carry the 66-3 snub to church and other such occasions and the 642-1 nl rides along with the others......

Have I found the perfect carry gun? Why yes I have:

Perfect in every way.

I have a Hi Power too. They're fine too, but I'll stick with a man's caliber thank you. Y'all are welcome to continue with those sissy calibers if you like. Why fire twice when one will do?

No, you're wrong about that. Even though I've found the perfect one, I still love guns. I'll continue to buy more as long as I'm able. This way I can compare and see that my chosen gun is more perfecter.

I didn't realize a Shield 45 acp was in the works.

I prefer pocket carry, but I really like 45 acp. I think it may be the best self defense caliber going.

But my 1911 (full sized) and 625JM are both too big and heavy to pocket carry.

Maybe I need bigger pockets.

Md 649-3 in .357 magnum. For me, this is as good as it gets.

I have two. I carry my shield 9mm most all the time, but there are a few times when my bodyguard 380 is needed.

I liked his idea so much that I have 24 1911s. That said, I also LOVE my BHP!

I've gone through a few and I believe I have, but there are 3 of them.
My number 1 carry is my Ruger LCP, next is my Smith Md. 36 and last but not least is my Glock 27.
When I first started to carry my one and only was a 37 Chiefs Airweight and that remained my mainstay for a lot of years.
Do you still carry your first?
Shield 9mm, which is replaced by my Bodyguard 380 when dress demands it. Smith PERFECTION!!!

I recently moved from the 442 to my Colt Cobra....about the same weight but an extra shot and still works on the ankle. For an auto, it's my HK P2000. The LEM works just like a nicely tuned revolver so all my triggers are similar as are the manual of arms, ie: no safeties, just pull the trigger.
