Default Have You Found Your Perfect Handgun?

Putting collections aside, Have you found your perfect handgun to carry?
I've gone through a few and I believe I have, but there are 3 of them.
My number 1 carry is my Ruger LCP, next is my Smith Md. 36 and last but not least is my Glock 27.
When I first started to carry my one and only was a 37 Chiefs Airweight and that remained my mainstay for a lot of years.
Do you still carry your first?

I open carry 90 percent of the time. My 'perfect' carry gun (right now) is my Beretta 92FS (straight dust cover) with a MecGar 20 round magazine.

When I must conceal, my 'perfect' carry gun is a Makarov PM chambered in .380auto.

Both of these autos are as reliable as revolvers (which I love too). I believe the Beretta's go an average of 13,000 rounds before a single stoppage of any kind. Hard to argue with that.

For concealed carry....95% of the time... a 3913/14/NL variant has served me well for +25 years..........

A 3 inch 65 and later a 3" 66 have met 95% of my revolver needs......since 1986 and 1988

Other favorites...... are

Performance Center Shorty 9.....double stack 3913/14.....since 1994

3" 60-10....... 5 shot micro-686

Beretta 92 Compact Type-M single stack 9mm...... 1993

Beretta's 92 Compact and Centurion........ as my "full size" carry.....1988

S&W 915...1993

Finally my 4" custom round butt 686-nuttin........ since 1985/86

Can't have one perfect handgun.
For concealed carry on dress-up, tucked shirt days my Sig P938, is perfect. On casual days, nothing beats the S&W 642 in a high ride IWB holster. If size is no issue, then the Springfield RO 1911 in 45 ACP is perfect.

Close but not quite. I would like my 696 no dash to have 4 inch barrel instead of a 3 inch. A close alternate would be my USFA single action with a 4 3/4 inch barrel in .44 Special.

S&W model 60 no dash. Is my Carry gun. stainless and takes a beating and keeps on clicking. And that's just to get me to my truck, there lays my HK USP 45 Hi Cap with extra mag.

Wifeys daily carry is a M&P 380 with built in laser. She likes it and is pretty good with it. But I don't like the trigger pull?

It would be difficult to do one. Two, if I was pressed, would be much better.

I typical have 3 pistols available for the differences in what I'm wearing. All have the same DA trigger (at least for the first shot), no safety to disengage, and are mostly worn in the same spot, other than the rare times I pocket-carry.

Here she is, Walther PPKS .22 rf. In a shoulder holster, she is comfortable to carry, don't even know she is there. Handy to get to and CCI Minemags are cheap. Average shooting 20 rounds a day. has been with me over 20 years.

The Shield (9mm) has been my constant companion for about a year now, and I'm very happy with it. However, I just picked up a pistol for the wife yesterday, that may change that. I hardly believe it myself, but the Taurus P111 g2 is a well made pistol. I cleaned it and fired 50 rounds through it when I got home (trouble free), and actually hit with it better than with my Shield. And it fits in the same holster. Who knows, after another 300-400 rounds I may steal it back. But for now, the Shield is the most comfortable IWB gun I have ever carried.

I do like the idea of having 5 more rounds.

Asked by the Ringo Kid:

For some reason I never named her, but Charlene sounds like a good name. You have named her, thank you!

Not sure I've reached nirvana yet, but I sure do like my FNH FNP 9mm. DA/SA with a decocker. I wish I could fully utilize the 17 round mag capacity and not have to crimp them to 10 rounds in NY! Great size, weight, balance and trigger. It's a natural pointer and has run flawlessly.

While I find myself packing around my Glock 32 in .357sig a lot lately, my gut says if I had to just pick one I'd likely grab my Colt Gunsite CCO. It's the perfect balance of size, accuracy and reliability.

I may have posted my preferences and the reasons for them here before. I apologize If this is a repeat. See, I'm old and have a ragin case of "Can't remember stuff".

Any way I carry every where I go. Every day. All the time. Even out side in my own yard I have a little something or other to keep the punks off me. I'm small and old and look like an easy target. I'm anything but. However people have been assaulted in their yards and even in their garages so when I'm out messin' around in the yard or garage I'm "dressed".

There are any number of places I might go and each might require a different style/type of dress depending upon the weather or what I'll be doing etc. This necessitates something that is appropriate for every situation.

Besides who wants to carry the same old gun all the time. In many aspects of life variety really is the spice of life and I think it make things more interesting if not more fun.

My big 3 (and this has been trimmed down some since I thinned the herd) are as follows

1. Ruger SR-1911 .45 auto plus 2 extra magazines-For the road and for cold weather when a jacket or coat or bulkier clothing might be required. I can easily conceal this with some of my summer duds but not all.

2. Ruger SP-101 .38 spl/.357 mag. 4" stainless. This one conceals more easily and comfortably and is my main carry in summer attire or when I might be a little more active and/or sitting and standing a lot. It's only a 5 shot so I carry 2 speed loaders in a double carrier.

3. KelTec P-32 .32 auto. I carry this most often as a "bug" when I'm on the road or possibly in a place or situation where I perceive a greater threat/risk of a problem. It's also my yard gun and beach gun. I know it's a little light for some situations but I carry fmj for better penetration. Hollow points don't always feed properly and you can experience jams and failure to feed. Also some hollow point ammo in the smaller calibers don't always expand as they should.

Anyway It can carry 7+1 and I would never rely on it in a gunfight across the street or even across the room. It is mostly for close up and personal and as a back up for the semi auto and the revolver.

Correction: As some of you may have or soon will notice the middle pic is not a Ruger SP-101. It is a pic of my S&W 624. I am currently unable to find any pics of the SP-101. When I set up this new laptop I am now positive that I lost some of my pics.

I don’t believe there is any perfect anything, much less something as diverse a handgun. That being said, my most often C.C.H. is my model 640. For no other reason than it’s easy to take with me. My preferred C.C.H. is one of my 2 ½” M-19’s. As I’ve said, so many times, before it’s not to big or heavy to carry, yet it feels like a real gun in my hand unlike the assorted J frames.

Default Every day is a 649..............

............then there are other days when it needs company.

On duty days one of those nasty plastic things. (30sf)

Those other days, and not far away most any day are these two.

Mod 65LS & BHP, very comfortable with any of these even if one has no personality.

"I still haven't found what I'm looking for." The closest I've come is a Browning Hi-Power, Smith 66-2 2.5" barrel and Smith 696-2. Walking around the farm gun? Smith 57 no dash 6", Smith 629 no dash P&R 6" and a Smith 27-2 8 3/8" barrel. Another fun gun: Smith 25-5 45 Colt 4".

Most of the time, it's a Colt Commander 1911.

If weather or event dictates, it's a M 38

Out in the mountains, it's a Colt 1911 5"

When hunting, it's often a Colt Woodsman or, less frequently, a kit gun.

I don't know about perfect , but dang close. I now carry, every day, my Kahr PM9 Diamond series. It conceals beautifully and is as comfortable as anything that I've carried in a long time. I've carried my 3913TSW and 4053TSW on and off over the years but I was never truly comfortable after a period of time. The Kahr just rides right ,tucks away nicely and after awhile, I can almost forget that it's there.

I thought I wold make a commitment to polymer guns since that is about the only thing you see nowadays so I got a M&P .40 and really like it, but it just really isn't for me. I had a EAA Witness .40 that I bought right after the round was invented and it was my "go to" defensive handgun for over 25 years. I have probably had over 50 defensive handguns in my life but it fit my hand perfectly, was all steel but not too heavy, and very accurate. The DA/SA trigger was excellent and I put thousands of rounds through the gun and never had a jam or a problem. For some strange reason I sold it to a friend about 8 years ago and I saw him the other day and we got to talking about guns and he said he had never even shot it and asked if I wanted to buy it back. I said yes and gave him what he paid for it, $290 dollars, and I just picked it up today. It was like seeing an old friend who I have really missed the last 8 years.

I carry a 640-3 with a ClipDraw, Pacmar rubber 3 finger crisp I Love it. .357 magnum loads don't bother me a bit.

For a number of well-thought-out reasons I've carried the same dashless 640 daily for seventeen years, so I guess it's been perfect for me so far. It's always loaded with the FBI load or its equivalent, also a researched and considered choice.

Recently I've considered acquiring a Ruger LCP, but haven't made the move

Summer: Sig 938
Winter: Wilson XTAC

The PPK makes an appearance on formal occasions; hunting is open carry 6" M57 or 4" M629. On rare winter days, the 3" M629 gets carried. Gotta go shoot some Fed HST Micro in the 938; the Cor-Bon PowRBall is not for the faint of heart.

Since I received my license to carry 19 months ago, my primary carry handgun has been my M&P 40c. It carries easily in my pocket with a DeSantis Nemesis holster, or in my 5.11 holster shirt, or in my Galco IWB holster. Its 10+1 capacity is greater than most carry guns, and while it initially feels a bit heavy, it becomes quite tolerable after a couple of days. It is very accurate out to 15 yards and it has been totally reliable through 6500 rounds. Its only shortcomings are a trigger action that is a bit heavier than I would like (though that's not necessarily a bad thing with a carry gun), and the lack of a second-strike capability (though it's never failed to fire). It is also the perfect size for my nightstand.

I'm always open to the possibility of replacing it with a better carry gun, but so far, I haven't found one. Kudos to Smith & Wesson for a great design.

Perfect? No, but often the right gun for the conditions. I carry my Ruger lightweight commander 1911 when I can (which has been most of the time this year) with a Kahr K40 and my 642 filling in as needed. My standard is to carry the most powerful and accurate gun that I can under the circumstances.

Gen 4 Glock 19 about 75% of the time, usually a G 26 rides in the vehicle as back up as well. S&W 640 in pocket about 20%, and when Im deep in the woods a Gen 4 Glock 21.

But to answer your question, my "next" gun will be my perfect one.

For urban carry, I haven't found it yet. The closest I've come is this S&W 638 loaded with Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel. But I'd like a little more barrel length and more than 5 shots. Still looking at revolvers and autos.

Ou in the desert, I carry my Ruger Security Six, in El Paso Saddelry Tom threepersons cross draw. Haven't found anything better.

I own a bunch of CCW capable handguns, I've been through then all numerous times. I'd narrowed it down to 640, 642, 649, 638, 9314 or PPK/s.

I keep going back to the one I bought as a present to myself while I was waiting for my permit to show up. A 638 with Eagle SS stocks, always have it along, even if I'm carrying something else.

Another vote for DA/SA w/decocker. I tried DAO, but disliked the longer reset.
Currently EDC'ing a CZ PCR, for the last 2 months, and it's become my favorite. I wouldn't mind having a single-stack version of it though.

My current carry pistol is a Kahr CM9 and I like it. I shot my son in law's Shield 9mm and I may change my mind.

Now my perfect handgun (not carry) is the 6" 27-2 I recently acquired.
